  1. Re:what about non-DNA information? on Is Extinction Only Temporary? · · Score: 1

true...a formerly-extinct anmial, like a mammoth which has been cloned back into existence would lack the "mammoth OS" that is passed along by others of its species, but, what if the more and more advanced brain scanning/imaging technologies that are being developed can eventually scan and store the minds of animals (endangered ones?) for "download" into the new ones (provided we have some sort of interface for doing that)

pretty far-fetched, but hey, so was cloning itself, at one time...

...i'm starting to feel more crowded in a cd lately, 650 (or 70) megs just isn't what it used to be, and dvd-rams are getting cheaper and cheaper. i think that the media will come down as well, so in a year or so you'll buy dvd-r's at half of what they are now. hmm 5.2 gb isn't that much even really, if you dig mp3s

are 50 packs really $14.95 at staples? nice.

i live in west virginia, and a lot of ppl in the rural areas (and i mean a LOT) live on their own land and have the mineral rights to it. ppl i own their own natural gas wells, and have been drawing from them for years....now these ppl can really get off of the grid, gas and electric (until the well goes dry) :)

    3. Most importantly, when Joe Average Computer User is used to playing music from a computer/hard drive, do you think they will still buy CDs then?

at my house, where we have a cable modem and not so much hard disk space (but lots of cdr's), we're quite used to listening to music from a computer, which runs into the stereo. i have a rack of purchased CD's in my living room, but still, 7 times out of 10, i'm listening to mp3s, without a second thought

maybe i'm just a geek, but i don't think it will be that much of a transition, from pushing the play button to clicking a mouse to hear a record.
