No worse then when MS went from Excel version 4.0 to Excel 95 or version 7.0 .

I just figured the fools forgot how to count.

So... if MS can do it, why can't everyone else. The only reason I can see that MS would do that was so that the Excel version would match the Word Version as Excel 4.0 and Word 6.0 were pacaged together. Then there's also the fact that Corel were marketing Corel WordPerfect 7 at the time.

    My $0.02 =)

I was thinking about RR as I read about this.

Originally RR was started as a division of Time Warner, but they thought it was best to be run as a seperate company. So they split it off so it could grow and prosper. Various companies such as Microsoft, Compaq, and Time Warner invested in this company.

Hopefully the fact that RoadRunner is not directly under the entire Time Warner umbrella will somewhat protect them.

The folks at X10 do have an all-in-one remote... Actually they have two or three.

I actually bought one, that also controls my mouse. I haven't yet been able to get it to do everything it can do with my computer. And well, I'll say it still doesn't do EVERYTHING that the OEM remotes do...

For example it can bring up the on-screen menu on the TV, but that's all... with regards to the menu, it'll do everything else though, flip channels, change volume, flashback, etc...

    Oh well nothing is perfect...

  4. Netscape/Mozilla's survival... on Whither Netscape 5.0? · · Score: 1
I personally much prefer Netscape or Mozilla over IE ANY day of the week. Yes it might be a slight bit slower but I prefer supporting the under dog rather than the giant mammoth that is MS.

I think if anything has killed Netscape and Mozilla, it has been MS instantly installing IE on the desktop of almost every 95 box. Where I live I've encountered many many people using IE, simply 'cause it was easier, it was there installed on the machine... And then the fact that every new MS product re-installs or updates your IE as it see's fit.

I've yet to hear anything on the vertict of the DOJ vs MS case, anyone know anything of this?

I really am not sure what Netscape/Mozilla can do now, to battle back against the giant mammoth that is MS, it would seem they have lost, but it they can strick some deals to integrate and install the browser with every non-MS OS, they might end up having a fighting chance. Basiclly what I mean it, I know Netscape craps out from time to time, for various reasons on different OSs, but they need to figure out why and then integrate Netscape/Mozilla to work better with the respective OSs. Once it starts regaining a reputation, start getting manufacturers to include Netscape/Mozillia with their install so that when their program requires a browser, it starts using Netscape/Mozilla...

    Just a thought...

Well, Red Hat is a Linux dist. (as we all know), but I'll agree that it is certainly not the ONLY distribution out there. But it is one of the most recognized. I run RedHat at home (because I prefered it to Slackware) and have yet to try Debian or SuSE so I can't say anything bad about them...

I'll also agree that a "Linux Certification", would be far more appropriate... But then there's the fact again that RedHat is one of the most recognized dist. and they will remain one of the most recognized distibutions until another organization or distributor starts such a program RedHat will probably remain one of the most recognized distributions.

    My two cents...

I'd like to add that the other side of this is, many people can't figure out the difference between a KiloByte, and a MegaByte let alone a Kilobyte and kibibyte or a MegaByte and a Mebibyte. These new notations will simply confuse the matter more for many many people.

I do understand the methodology, but I'll also say that different names would have been better. I mean they aren't even easy to pronounce...

    My two cents worth anyway.
