Anybody that converts real world assets to virtual ones deserves what they get. Seriously, what's on your mind when you convert your hard earned cold cash into bits in some virtual world ?

Let me take a stab at this....
Ever bought software? Were you paying for the disc or the code?
Ever gone to see a movie?
Ever paid to do something or experience something?
Ever exchanged hard earned cold cash for a service?

Paying for intangibles that result in your enjoyment is something everyone does on one level or another.

  2. Re:Books do not make the game on Ask the Designers of D&D Fourth Edition · · Score: 1

The last time I checked....there were three core books and then a slew of additional books for each individual class subset, psionics, magic, magic items, etc... By boiling it down into just four books (PHB, DMG, MM, and Errata) it makes the game a bit more approachable by new players rather than a book of the week club.

I muddled around Eberron, but it just felt very.....ah....flat. Kind of like after you've played the first few modules of a Dark Sun campaign.

  3. Books do not make the game on Ask the Designers of D&D Fourth Edition · · Score: 4, Insightful

Can you publish an edition that likens back to 1st Edition AD&D where four books and a module pretty much could sum up a session? How about putting more energy into fleshing out a world instead of bloating the ruleset or creating more classes? Well designed modules/worldbooks will still generate the revenue that you are trying to force out of your clients with more core books.

The magic of AD&D (whether it be high, dark, monty haul, hack-n-slash, dungeoncrawling, or comic) is in the minds of the players....the world they mold around their characters. Then again....most gaming companies today don't really care about this. WotC, Whizkids, Games Workshop....they're all about the $$ and number of units sold.

Having played WoW since its release, I dropped my account a few months after the Burning Crusade. It was a very enjoyable game, but like most MMOGs it failed to evolve and remained a very simple game. It began to feel like a stagnant experience. While PvP and the Battlegrounds helped that a great deal....at the end of the day it was the same experience.

A few months ago I reactivated my EQ2 account. If the current version of EQ2 had been the release version, I would never have left it for WoW. Like WoW, you can accomplish things in a short period of time, you can solo, there is a banker, getting around is simplified to a degree, and the mechanics are complex while not detracting from the enjoyment of the game itself.

I can only hope that more people go back and give EQ2 a try...and build its subscriber base. Competition is good...and Blizzard needs someone to keep them pushing the envelope.

When a Windows box is setup and utilized properly, we see excellent stability and reliability out of those systems. Everything functions in a straightforward manner and generally interoperates well.
