    Because this study has decent controls.

    Most of the "violent games make people violent" type studies have no controls, or at the very most, poorly planned and implemented controls.

    With such minimal vetting? I doubt it. Only if you're a trusted submitter to the Mozilla tree. And if you were, you'd only get to pull a stunt like that once.

    Yet, if you pay no attention, drift 10 feet out of your lane, roll your vehicle, and kill two people, you can legally drive away from the accident scene.

    Go figure......

    Car companies do have a 'stfu mode'. It's called turning off the ignition switch.

    Well, all except this car, that is, since you can't be sitting in it with 'stfu mode' activated....

    Give your keys to the shady looking guy who's standing at the corner of the parking lot looking around. Go back to your car, and see if it's locked.

    Then you go back and get your keys, and.....

    Nope.

    My half-brother's customized 1972 Buick Riviera. Didn't even have door handles.

    The doors were opened by an electrical switch underneath one of the front fenders, which energized a solenoid to pull the door latch mechanism.

    I know, I know....it's customized. Doesn't count.
    Besides....it was a usability nightmare, too...especially when the battery was dead.

    So you're saying that rather than turn off a single key to shut off the engine, and all electrical accessories, we should have to turn off radio, climate control, and anything else individually, simply because there's no engine to shut off?

    That's idiotic.

    Yes, it's certainly possible, but it's a pain in the ass.

    I was thinking it looked kind of like a shortened DB9 with 4 doors, too....

    Which is not to say it isn't slick, because I love the look of the DB9.....

    But can you buy an AT-USB adapter?

    These keyboards came with a 486 system that I bought in 1993, and a friend's 486 that they bought at the same shop, which later got donated to me when they upgraded.

    I'm already running an AT-PS/2 adapter. I don't particularly want a PS/2-USB adapter as well.

    Besides that....I hate USB keyboards. How do you fix problems with Windows USB device recognition when you've got a USB keyboard and mouse? PS/2 ports, on the other hand, are pretty much bulletproof. I've only ever seen a PS/2 keyboard stop working once in Windows when it wasn't a hardware problem. And it was just a matter of resetting the BIOS to defaults, and it was fine.
    USB, on the other hand, is way too unreliable for a required input device.

    It's fine if you've still got the PS/2 ports, and you can just plug another keyboard in, but the legacy free idea is the stupidest thing ever to come out of a major PC manufacturer, if you ask me....

    Well, that pizza wouldn't feed me for two days. At best, I'd get two meals out of it. So according to him, I should be consulting a doctor, implying that I'm not healthy.

    If I at that pizza at every meal, then no, I wouldn't be particularly healthy.
    But the fact that one won't sustain me for two days, does not mean I am unhealthy.

    If I ate that pizza for every meal, then yes. I'd agree with you.

    But when you can burn off calories at the rate that I do, you can chuck down one of those at a meal, then a few healthy meals after that, without giving your cholesterol a second thought.

    If you didn't have a piece of crap "legacy free" computer, you'd be able to use their PS/2 version.

    I've got an AT-type FK2000, and another AT-type FK2001. I've bought AT-PS/2 adapters because at the time I upgraded from AT to ATX computers, I couldn't find anywhere to get Focus keyboards.

    So I'm now typing on the keyboard I bought with my first computer in 1993, and it's still the best keyboard I've ever used.

    I don't know whether it's the audible feedback, or the mechanical feedback, but I've got a pair of old Focus FK2000 and FK2001 keyboards on my computers.
    Maybe not quite an IBM Type M, but I can type about 20WPM faster, and with fewer errors, on one of these "clicky" keyboards than any of the crap rubber button ones.

    They feel like you're typing in Jello. Seriously.

    Something with a good solid thunk when I hit a key makes an incredible difference to my typing.

    But, I've played the piano for 25 years, so it could be the mechanical feel of them, rather than the actual click. But either way, I hate cheap keyboards....

    what the heck did you think it would be for? Seriously.

    Although realistically, it shouldn't be a particularly complex program, I wouldn't think, so it should probably work under Wine.

    This news from New Zealand is extremely good news, (at least for now - they may sneak it back in piecemeal when the furor dies down),

    I would suspect this is exactly what will happen. Some natural resources bill, or health care bill, or some other completely unrelated but popular bill will get an amendment so that this BS can get shoved in through the back door.

    That way, if you protest the bill, they can say "But why don't you think the orphans should be taken care of? Why do you hate orphans?"

    All politicians are corrupt, regardless of party, leanings, political viewpoints, sound bites, associate relationships, or what have you.

    The whole problem with politics is that people get voted in, simply because "They're not as bad as the other guy."

    When you stop and realize that they're all a bunch of crooks, then maybe you'll actually be able to get somewhere with your broken political system. Not that ours is any better, but at least we have more than two parties.

    Automobile manufacturers don't specifically filter purchasers that are likely to use their cars to rob banks.
    Are car companies guilty of bank robbery?

    Camera manufacturers don't specifically stop random pervs from taking upskirt shots of women in shops. Does that make the camera manufacturer guilty of sexual exploitation?

    Tools have been used for good and bad purposes for centuries. But somehow, just because it's a search engine, involving a computer, you think it has to be treated completely differently. Slashdotters keep bitching about how invalid, stupid patents are suddenly valid just because the word "computer" shows up in it, but then you go and decide that a tool should be treated differently if it involves a computer.

    Slashdot doesn't specifically filter out idiots from using words like "ergo" to sound smart. Does that mean slashdot is stupid?

    No. Ergo, it just means that you are an idiot.
