Rift would work a whole lot better with Halo than it would Unreal Tournament.
I suspect that the most successful and enjoyable VR games will be sandboxes and MMOs. I'd rather visit alien worlds for the sake of exploration than blowing stuff up.
"And yet the Tea Party thugs were demanding government "do whatever it takes" post-9/11... "
You knew about the Tea Party in late 2001? What else did you know about that was still in the future? Lemme guess, you knew about Katrina and didn't warn us? You bastard!
I hate to burst your snark bubble, but every day since 9/11 is post-9/11. I took a post-9/11 shower this morning.
This is a textbook example of the government trying to apply "do as I say, not as I do." If they want us to respect the spirit and letter of the law, they first need to do the same.
I'm not defending the government, but you honestly thought there would be protection for a whistleblower at a spy agency?
"There should be easy practices for anyone to open up an otherwise-closed Wi-Fi access point if it's still connected to broadband and is near people in trouble"
That sounds like an open invitation for every hacker in the world to open up any Wi-Fi access point. How can you guarantee that such a capability wouldn't be abused?
I assume it would be just like making any other change to your browser through the configuration webpage.
There's no more Carl Sagan, no more Bill Nye on television, nothing except Mythbusters to inspire future generations of engineers and scientific thinkers. This has made my day, there may just be hope for the future yet.
Perhaps the young generation isn't looking to TV for inspiration?
Every side has their own utopian/dystopian visions of alternative futures. Fortunately, if the history of prognostication is any indicator, they'll all be wrong. The future will prove to be something that no one expected.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to pick up some Soylent Green from my local moonbase restaurant in my hovercar.
Don't forget to take your jetpack, in case your hovercar gets stuck in traffic.
Frankly the Amazon rainforest is of much more importance to the health of our world than the company could ever be. And anyone who wants to promote that domain in the interest of protecting this world we live on has my blessing.
I'd wager that Amazon pushing less wasteful packaging has had a bigger impact on the environment than any rain forest themed website ever has.
>> To a lot of people in that 30 to 45 age bracket $1,000 isn't a whole heck of a lot to spend on a hobby.
Never been married, have you?
I'll one-up you: my wife and I have a four-month-old son. A $3 Android game feels like splurging! But articles like this remind me that the only things I've had to give up are just "stuff," and I don't miss them.
It essentially IS a $500 card, considering it comes with almost $500 worth of games.
I can't find where TFA lists the bundled games, but I imagine if I were the target market for this card, I'd already own them. And since I'm not the target market, I'll probably buy those $500 worth of games for $50 during the next Steam blowout (and then suffer through the crappy framerate).
more accurately, it checks for parameters of any ssh connection *with root privileges*. everyone see the problem there? every owner of every machine that fell to the n. korean attack richly deserved what they got. piss poor security will bite one in the ass.
People with poor security do not *deserve* an attack.
That sounds so much cooler than the Star Wars Micromachines I had when I was a kid...
Does it actually say "Micro Machines?" I would suggest that, otherwise, it's not the real thing.
Stuff like mcdonalds mini med that if you get sick is total f**king garage
But that would be quite a hit in dense urban cores, where parking is scarce.
Well played.
So many people there had the idea that if it had an electric cord, IT was in charge of it, from coffee machine to light bulbs, it was all IT.
I work a help desk and was called earlier this week by an IT contractor when the break room sink was clogged.

They want to prevent anyone else from starting an app store in competition with theirs.
Except that makes it more difficult to explain in condescending terms of how Apple knows what is best for its customers.

Additionally, the Raspberry Pi is about as powerful as the original Xbox which could, guess what, play emulated games a decade ago.
As as did old PCs. But old PCs and old Xboxes don't run off of cell phone chargers and fit in a playing cards box.
Because the right will complain about schools brainwashing our kids into thinking guns are dangerous
Nobody thinks guns aren't dangerous. Only a defective gun is not dangerous.

seem like a gimmic
A government-mandated gimmic, depending on your field.
FTFY:
Ender's game = hunger games for 13 year old boys
Yes I read the book, I thought it was garbage pulp fantasy for those of limited breadth and imagination.
Limited breadth? Just how fat are we talking here?
Under normal circumstances women need less than a week.
Citation need because, frankly, this seems ridiculous to me in so many ways.

Why does a notebook need a back-facing camera?
Gun accidents kill hundreds of people EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.
There were fewer than 30 ingestion incidents, *EVER*, with buckyball neodymium magnets that led to their being declared a health hazard and banned.
While I know the latter aren't protected constitutionally, doesn't that still strike people as being incredibly inconsistent?
And in combat situations, fingers may get dirty, or even partially damaged or burnt. This strikes me as a REALLY bad idea. Lives will be lost to this.
No military would ever purchase this tech. The summary is full of it.
While they're on the phone, ask them if they want their joke back.

Seems like it would be better than a keyboard for, say, learning sign language.
