Who says they are only allowed to make their money back? This is capitalism, remember? If you're willing to take the risk at laying out the infrastructure, and customers are willing to continue paying for your foresight and daring, who are we to say they can't continue to rake in the dough?
If I'm not mistaken, the companies that provide the so-called back bone to the internet have to pay hard earned money to pay for all the fiber, staff, land, etc. that they need to make it happen. Unless they start getting these things for free, let's not jump to the easy conclusion that they are "bad guys".
I didn't even know what bind was at the time, and i still don't fully understand all the trash i see running when you do ps aux, after all that i just disabled everything that i didn't know exactly what it was
You shouldn't be running stuff that you don't fully understand. You should have a full understanding of the Unix environment before running something as powerful as BIND. You don't have to learn everything yesterday. Experience and knowledge comes with time.
contrary to what the Wall St Hype Machine would have you (general public) believe, Unix is not for Joe Public. Distros are generally assembled for people that have a clue. I don't blame the users not having a clue, though. After having had their hands held by Microsoft for the last 10 years, it's no wonder that they expect the same when moving to the Unix world.

i was just joking dude. it was kind of a response to the many pro-Canadian comments that were knocking the US. I find all forms of nationalism distasteful, but I don't think people need to compound it by putting down other people.
Romero is 31, with long, silky black hair. He wears tight designer jeans and a black T-shirt, and has the slightly pudgy frame of someone who has spent a lifetime staring at computer screens while drinking Cokes and eating candy bars
I laughed when I read that but once I looked at my body I started crying.
Pedantics aside, the Open Source movement sprung from a so-called realistic faction of developers who were turned off by RMS's stridency with regard to ensuring that software remained free. So yes, you are correct, but both free software and Open Source software both share the same philosophical roots.
Most people are aware of the differences but there are folks who feel the chasm is subtle enough to ignore. Maybe I should have in fact suggested they contact Bruce Perens who has become the voice of reason (sorry ESR) of the Open Source movement.
You guys should have run this stuff by RMS first. He started this free software (or Open Source, whatever you want to call it...) stuff and whether you like it or not his opinion does matter to a lot of people. Next time just send him an email and ask him to give the proposal the once over.
you approach life as though your mommy is still laying out your clothes for you. life, for most individuals, is complex. solutions, like the ones you suggest, are not easily found or sought. once you experience life more you'll find that out.
70% of welfare dollars go to small children. unlike you, i prefer to take care of human beings. you should get to know a few. you might find that you like them.
While Gamma Ray research was furthered by NASA's Compton, the greatest Gamma Ray research was done by the pre-eminent scientist of his day in 1960 by Dr. Reed Richards.
Eschewing the titular formality of Dr, preferring instead to be known simply as Reed Richards, he led a manned space probe, along with his wife Sue, her brother Johnny and their friend Ben. This probe was of such a secret nature that history has not recorded it, bestowing the first manned space probe honors upon John Glenn instead.
While the Gamma Ray research during the probe did not go as planned (Reed and the others were are all horribly mutated in various ways), it led to further refinement of Gamma Ray research techniques, finally culminating in NASA's Compton.
I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to the Fantastic Foursome of those intrepid space pioneers, who by necessity of the secret nature of their research, have been passed over by the history books.
It's that simple. In their zeal to secure financial contribs from media companies, they sold us down the river. It is now up to us to boot these scoundrels out of office.
Don't complain if you're not willing to do something to correct the situation.
I don't know about you but when I go sailing I don't want to be bothered with the "real" world. I guess this is good for some people but I don't need access to the internet 24/7.
I would like to officially announce my candidacy for karma whoring by point out that you can log into partners.nytimes.com which doesn't require a login.
I find splitting Bill Gates three ways is much more attractive. Actually, splitting him four ways would be easier because we could do the old draw and quarter move by tying each of his limbs to a horse and smacking their asses.

compilers perform a series of iterative steps and it completes. an algorithm.
Now what do we do?

wow, looking at that list makes me realize how down and out the PC gaming market is. consoles are kicking the PC's ass every which way.

it is kind of scary. i can only hope that the moderator was trying to be equally funny.

Yours Sincerely,

Ha makes it a valid point, one that I've echoed above. Why so defensive?
(excuse the Chandler impression)
