  1. Re:what are your objections on Real Presidential Debates · · Score: 5, Informative

go to OpenDebates.org. Click on "issue" if you want the full scoop on the objections. Do you support scripted debates with no invites to 3rd,4th,5th party candidates?

From OpenDebates.org: Under CPD sponsorship, the major party candidates secretly design all the elements of the formats. Consequently, challenging questions, assertive moderators, follow-up questions, candidate-to-candidate questioning, rebuttals and surrebuttals are often excluded from the presidential debates. The CPD's formats prevent in-depth examination of critical issues, and allow the candidates to the deliver pre-packaged soundbites that are repeated over, and over, and over again on the campaign trail.

Presidential debates were run by the civic-minded and non-partisan League of Women Voters until 1988, when the national Republican and Democratic parties seized control of the debates by establishing the bi-partisan, corporate-sponsored Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). Posing as a nonpartisan institution committed to voter education, the CPD has continually and deceptively run the debates in the interest of the national Republican and Democratic parties, not the American people.

to me it seems like user base might have BEEN what was important. i don't know too many people these days that aren't running a multi-protocol IM client.

it seems that over the years everyone has chosen what they seemed to like best as far as what service, and now everyone has tons of IM contacts on every kind of protocol available, sometimes even the same person on 3 different protocols.

i think if google decided to do this, A LOT of people would move over just because of googles branding. normal, everyday people bought up googles stock because of their brand, not because of their computer scientists research.

hmm. there are many artists of centuries past that have created some of the most amazing art ever to grace our ears or eyes. they weren't doing it in hopes of a fat monetary reward. i think gillian welch has put this whole thing in perspective and you can see that real artists are going to continue to do what they do no matter if they are making a lot of cash.

    Gillian Welch "Everything Is Free"

Everything is free now, thats what they say
Everything I've ever done, gonna give it away,
Someone hit the big score, they figured it out,
That we're gonna do it anyway, even if it dosen't pay.
I can get a tip jar, gas up the car,
try to make a little change, down at the bar.
Or I can get a straight job, I've done it before,
Never minded workin' hard, it's who I'm workin' for.
Everything is free now, thats what they say
Everything I ever done, gotta give it away,
Someone hit the big score, they figured it out,

Everyday I wake up, humming a song,
but I don't need to run around, I'll just stayed home,
and sing a little love song, my love and myself
If there's something that you want to hear,
    you can sing it yourself.
Cause everything is free now, thats what I said,
No one's got to listen to, the words in my head.
Someone hit the big score, and I figured it out,
And I'm gonna do it anyway, even if it dosen't pay.

the Liberatarian Party reported their concern with this before. all Americans should really take a look at the Libertarian Party. with our dwindling freedoms and government intrusion into our daily lives becoming more and more of a problem, we need an overhaul and the Libertarian Party seems like a must at this point. instant repeal of the Patriot Act is very important imho. also check gary nolan's website. get involved, it's not too early as some seem to think. change is good.

you are kidding about dynamic range right? i'm sure you aren't hearing much of any dynamic changes in mp3's since everything mastered within the last 10 years is already brick-walled limited with absolutely no dynamic range already. this is due to the fact of everyone wanting their record to be louder than the next on the radio. you can make records on whatever you have. the dumbing down of the public is a poor excuse. some of the best music of the past 50 years was listened to on mono AM radio.

first of all. have you installed and used Ardour yet? Second of all, I believe the SAW line has been the most powerful audio software released on any platform. Coded in assembly and solid as a rock. I've worked on Protools systems for years, along with other systems such as the old Sonic Solutions, Fairlight systems, Otari Radar, etc. I think the newest incarnation of SAW, which is SAWStuido, is the most powerful and stable of them all on a good machine. I'm really glad that digi's arrogance has helped in pushing you towards their subpar, over-priced products.

i must say though, that i find the statement wrong and seems to come from someone that fell out of the loop and doesn't "understand" the kids and their music. i am by no means a youngster and i can't say that i have watched mtv or listened to clear channel radio in years. there are many great artists out there and taking the DIY route that make compelling and innovative music. many can be found on such independent labels as:
    matador records
    desoto records
    thrill jockey records
    kill rock stars
    dischord records

just to name a few, there are many many others. some places to buy independent music and distributors of:

i wanted to jump in here as well. i worked for six years doing ADR and post production for the animated series the Simpsons along with numerous other animated programs.

how we would go about it is like this. we would have what is called a cast record first. this is when every actor comes to the studio or soundstage and the whole script is read and recorded. this would then be edited very slightly, sometimes not at all and then shipped to the animators for a reference. after completing a majority of the animation, dialogue editors would go through and match dialogue with the animation. now, after this had been done, there would always be some lines that weren't innotated right during the first record, or the producers made changes during the animation process to make it more funny, happy, etc. these changes would then go to the ADR stage. we would have each actor come in and record the lines synced to picture. sometimes this would be 12 lines per actor, or it could be the whole damn script for a particular actor, you never knew. it was at this point that walla would be recorded. walla is the "background" people and crowd audio you hear. it is usually done by a walla team of 4 to 6 people. after all of this, all of the audio is sent to dialogue editors, sound effects editors, mixers, sweeteners. these people are the final step in the post production process. they tidy everything up with your typical crossfades, sweetening, and mix everything down to a final stereo track that is layed to tape synced with the animation.

just some information from me, some stupid recording engineer.

Yes, you've always had that ability. Don't buy music that is supported by the RIAA. There are many artists out there that are making records with their own hard earned money that are not influenced by the corporate market. Many are challenging listeners with intelligent, meaningful songwriting. None of this will ever change and many people will still be bickering here on Slashdot as long as people are still buying records from companies that the RIAA is "protecting". Inform your friends, your parents, your little brother or sister.
