Well an Asus Pundit would work very well. it includes TV out. A microATX system can be used as well. There are many microATX boxes that are about the size of a Stereo Receiver.

Here is one specced out with a Pundit for $463. A Different one with MicroATX and an Athlon64 for $508. The Pundit is actually $10 more expensive but the other system has higher end features. Add $10 for a Serial IR receiver/Transmitter if you need that. Some TV capture cards have remotes that work in Linux and some don't. Cheaper than your estimates- about the same as a Tivo+DVDrecorder. If you build yourself.

If someone really wants me to build them a MythTV box, email me and we can work something out.

I think that they should have played on the Dragon related name like Draconix. It combines Mandrake and Connectiva, plays on the whole Drake thing, includes *nix, and sounds good. There will of course be some RPG connotations, but surely it would be better than all the gay jokes.

Some readings of the GPL would claim that once in Violation of and GPL licencing, you are forever banned from distributing any GPL code.

In a more practical sense, a Judge would not look at Cherry to favorably if they tried that.

Cherry could have just sold box sets and put the source on cd in the box. They would then not have to give out the Source code to anyone who asks as it would be the responbility of the downstream distributors.

IE I buy CherryOS and give a copy to a friend, That friend would need to get the source from me as Cherry would not need to give out the source.
