  1. TV vs monitor argument on Salon on the XBox · · Score: 1

Yes, TVs don't have spectacular resolution. But how many of us have 32" monitors at home? or 40"? 50"?

When presented the choice of playing NHL2000 on either my PC or console, I'll take the console anyday. Big looks cool.

  2. Except... on Salon on the XBox · · Score: 1

Multiplayer is available on the Dreamcast, and will be available for the PS2 and GameCube. Modem and broadband connections.

There _is_ a Playstation mouse. Blame the developer for not using it.

Regarding patches, I can count how many console games I've bought with bugs on one hand, maybe one finger. _Every_ PC game I've bought has required a patch, if not mulitple patches.

Mods? Ok, score one for PCs.

Eye candy: I bet the rig to run your games at 1024x768 or higher sure costs more than a $200 console.

Sound: Almost every console gamer I know has a full surround system hooked in with their TV.

Fact is, console gaming has it's advantages and disadvantages, just like PC gaming. I say enjoy both, cause it's the games that matter.

  6. 70 million clueless users though on IMUnified: Playing Red Rover With AOL · · Score: 1

The problem with the "70 million" AOL users is most of them DON'T know what IM is. I have IM-ed many friends who have AOL, only to find out I've surprised them with some new "feature" they didn't know about, and to this day, still can't figure out...

Your friend's store probably failed because if didn't adapt to the marketplace. I frequent an "independent" video store that's managed to stay open in the face of Blockbuster and Hollywood Video very easily -- they adapted. Laserdisc? They carry it. DVD? From day one.

  8. Re:Reverse Importing?? on Princess Mononoke DVD: No Japanese · · Score: 1

Yes, theoretically region locking works. However, the Japanese DVD market has exploded with the release of the Playstation 2, and many people have stated they purchased the PS2 for DVD playback as a _primary_ purchase motive.

Problem is, the is a back door in the DVD drivers on the Japanese PS2 that allows one to disable the region locking...
