Well, as much as I despise Microsoft, I have to
say that Encarta Online is no great tome of facts, but it sure beats the comic books that you've been using for reference.

Grow up, stop whining, and try not to shoot yourself in the foot with that gun of yours. They are for responsible adults, not wanna-be adolescents, junior.

I think you really are gay, and just can't stand the truth about yourself. Why else would someone
be so vitriolic about something that has nothing to do with thier own sexual preferences?

Just a straight person's perspective of your post.

Oh yeah... your REAL daddy is black. Hope it hurts.

    Wow-

It sure seems like the US has pissed off every other 'Great Power'.

    Again.

It makes me nervous enough that my (US) government
seems oblivious to a large percent of it's population, but when the powers that be show a
similar disregard towards this many countries, I get the shivers.

When these many people want to use the US as fuel
for thier religious/sectional/economic/political/personal vehicle, you have to stop and wonder what we have done to become a magnet for unified hatred.

Like a lot of others reading this (from whatever country) , I was in the service, and still feel a patriotism-of-sorts for a country that I saw from a younger man's perspective.

However, I'm starting to get embarassed, maybe even ashamed of my governments more than occasional arrogance towards the rest of the world.

Well, if you look at the GNU packages slated to come out in Solaris 8, you'll see that perl 5, apache, and ssh among other GNU-goodies, come with the OS.

I can't dispute the oversight of giving out a free compiler, though. That is something that will come back to bite 'em if they don't give out at least a node-locked cc.

I posted the story last week, but I guess it wasn't newsworthy enuff for Rob (poke, jab).

Sun is supporting the configuration on
the E10K. Yup, Seymour Cray's design, bought by Sun, 128 procs on 18 boards. Yum.

As much as i like Linux (using it since 1.2.13),
I think that only the uneducated would believe that this would be a 'wise' configuration for a
    $1-plus-million machine.

I mean, linux makes a great web/print server (among other things), but it just isn't powerful or stable enough (yet) to utilize a machine this big.

This is most likely what Sun is counting on, I would imagine- to show linux's shortcomings compared to Solaris and the big, bad-ass servers that it was designed to run on.

This is true, however I work full-time at a place that 'builds lots of bridges'. If I want the know how and a chance 'to design my own span', then they will give me that opportunity (at least that's what it says in my contract).

I used to work in construction, and I will tell you that the foreman on a job site can/ will tell
the engineer where the weak points in his plan are.

The reason for this being that a foreman has years of EXPERIENCE with the materials, where an engineer has probaly never put on a pair of overalls.

in this industry because you were scared off by what a job posting asked for.

get some balls and tell the employer that you know the stuff, and they will pay attention, and possibly pay well.

and stop being a snipe, it doesn't make a good impression of you.

This is what worked for me-

I dropped out of high school, and put myself on the market consulting as a UNIX admin. In my experience, a serious investment in O'Reilly books and a hunger to learn got me some really sweet gigs at places like Motorola and Sun, where I had
lots of documentation, and labs to do hands-on stuff in a controlled environment.

These large companies don't always care about a degree, as long as you show aptitude. As far as what happened to/for me, my work has been also
    been an apprenticeship.

Of course, formal education will teach theory and
basics of algorithms and structure- all very important and useful, to be sure.

Keep in mind that working in the field does make you think on your feet and adapt to the situation
at hand ( i.e. having to tear apart someones code in the middle of the night, hoping the whole mess will compile clean before the cron job kicks off in an hour) , which is equally important, in my opinion.
