Having tried to get Sky while not in the UK... I have a couple of additional insight

    1) Don't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, even THINK about calling B-SKY-B for whatever reason... they track all the calls, and will shut down service for your card if you are not calling from inside the UK

    2) Better have a friend in the UK call with all of your information to activate the service

    3) Be careful about who you tell that you have Sky in continental Europe... B-Sky-B can be pain the the arses when it comes to tracking down people outside of the UK

the reason: They don't have broadcast rights in the rest of europe, so if they get caught with subscribers outside of the UK, they get slapped with huge-freaking fines.

  4. Re:Combat it or deny responsibility you mean... on Gone Phishing? · · Score: 1

I agree with you in principle, but working my (Minimum wage) Sales job I have a few things to add about what customers/consumers/marks should do

    1) SIGN YOUR GOD-DAMNED CARD ALREADY!!! You see there where it says "Not Valid Unless Signed"? Sign the card. If you want me to check for ID, Append your signature, (Or write over it with sharpie) "Check Photo ID"

    2) Only use your own card! not your wife's, not your parent's, yours. and if it's not yours, expect to either have it a) Rejected by the teller, or b) Confiscated, and destoryed

    3) Be polite to the teller when they ask for ID, ask to see the card, etc. they are doing it for your own protection, not to be a pain in the ass.

Now... as for the stores that accept the cards
    1) Check signatures... if an associate doesn't check the signature... Fire them. If the signature doesn't match, Check ID, and write on the slip the ID information

    2) Make sure the name matches, if it doesn't Confiscate and destroy the card, then report it to the credit card company

    3) Make sure that your policies on accepting plastic is clearly posted for both employees and customers.

Now for the credit card companies
    1) Enforce your damn policies!

    2) Perform random checks on merchants to make sure that policies are being followed... if not, revoke permissions to accept your card.

    3) Perform random checks on customers at random merchants, ensure that cards have been signed, if not, confiscate, and destroy, cards.

I know I'm not going to make very many friends with this... hell, some of you probably hate me for saying this... but with credit/debit cards being used more and more these days, and fraud being such a problem SOMETHING needs to be done

    3) daily run a low level backup (level 5)

it can use multisession CDs, so for your daily backups, Unless you have a very busy computer, you can just use the same CD for all daily backups

how it works is each level backs up any files that have changed since the last highest level backup

    Level 0 backs up everything
level 3 would back up everything that has changed since the last level 2, but since level 2 doesn't exist, it checks for a level 1, and then finds the level 0, so it backs up everything that has changed since the level 0,
level 5 performs the same type of opperation, and backs up everything that has chagned since the level 3

    Another almost standard scheme is:
    Monthly level 0
Every Sunday and wednesday Level 3
    Every other day level 5
