Warning: don't read this if you haven't seen the movie yet.
I saw Unbreakable yesterday, I was impressed with it and I'm no comic books fan. It's a great beginning for a Saga, we've had enough of Superman, Batman, Spiderman and X-Men we're looking for a new hero.
And unlike others I loved the ending. Elijah Price is the bad guy, is it because he wants to be one? It's more because he was born to be a bad guy and Dunn is a hero for the same reasons. It goes to show that each one of us is born to be something, a criminal, a doctor, a computer scientist, a novellist, whatever. You'll feel an emptiness if you're not doing what you were meant to do, what you were meant to be, somehow you'll know that something is not right until you follow your destiny.
:if something is enjoyable, it can't be marketable?
Yeah I think so. You start doing it for fun then you realize you can make a lot of money with it so you start marketing it, then you want more and more customers so you adapt your products for all types of customers and all of a sudden you realize that you're not doing it for fun anymore, you're coding not for your enjoyment but for the enjoyment of others, you want others to enjoy your product, you want them to buy it. Then comes all the accounting stuff you have to take care of, all the forms you have to submit, etc. etc. Is it fun? I don't think so.
The worst part of my job is filling in the timesheet.
health is an essential service in canada, transportation to and look how crappy the both are because of government intervention.
You're dying you want to pay for healthcare instead of waiting 3 months for them but they won't let you, you can't pay for healthcare, it's illegal.
"a) not every university uses PCs (several small liberal arts colleges are practically only mac based)"
Automatic updates through the web would be ideal.
For b well the workstations will be updated automatically when the user starts the PC, I don't see a problem. And Office won't randomly shut down, it'll warn the user that an upgrade is available and will be installed as soon as he closes Office.
This is like saying damn this 1980's movie is good, why would I want to buy a new movie? Or like I have a VCR why buy a DVD player? Why upgrade? So software developers can earn money, so you as a sysadmin can earn money and so you can have exciting challenges and excitement doesn't come by administrating the same OS version on the same machines for 20 years or so. I have a 15inch monitor why would I need a 17inch?
And this gets a Score 4 insightful ? Come on that's ridiculous. People in Offices will be connected to a network, Win2k Server receives the updates and automatically updates the workstations, no need for user intervention. Some people only used old buggy win95 and start complaining about all MS software.
Most companies have standarized on MS Office and it's a good think, imagine people using Linux some using Applixware other StarOffice other's AbiWord, etc. etc. and what if our Client is using WordPerfect? It'll get damn crazy to exchange documents and technicians will be doing word processing support all the day, they'll have to be trained for all the Office suits in the market. a Lot of choice may not be that good.
I don't know what kind of sysadmins you got in that company. I'm no sysadmin myself and I successfully installed an Exchange Server 5.5 a few months ago for 300 employees and works fine since 7600 hours haven't really touched the machine since then and I'm really not much of an expert.
I got a better idea, I'm allying with GoD to make the world a better place. Wait a minute, even GoD wasn't able to make the world a better place.
Beam me up GoD, to heaven and quick.
according to this article on ZDnet, MS will be teaming with Transmeta to develop a Tablet PC.
Those of you who were wondering why all those Pro-MS slashdot articles in the last couple of days, wonder no more.
Yes it was a pro-Microsoft statement, why do you say? Well according to this a rti cle Transmeta is teaming up with MS on the Tablet PC project.

how about porting MS Win to the human brain?
This will be your brain:
Warning from brain.dll!
your neuron cells have detected an erection, please restart it so those changes can take effect.
You made a good point I used to work from home and even though I was making good money, I didn't have time to go out with friends, well actually I did but I got so absorbed in my work that I forgot everything else, almost never went out, ordered pizza's, played some quake and when friends called I didn't feel like talking to them.
Anyway got myself a new job, pays twice less but at least I'm not the hermit I used to be.
Let me remind you that Oracle's License Agreement is the same in terms of that No benchmarking should be published without Oracle's authorization.
My point is Oracle is even more of an idiot, and I don't know why people are still use Oracle databases. MS SQL Server and IBM DB2 were rated the best in the benchmarking test.
It's all about good marketing.
yep I got it. MS will soon be releasing their own Linux distribution. Many of MS employees have been pushing for it. And after all the studies, MS finally realized they may be able to make money with Linux.
Whistler : Looks good, newbie friendly, great features
Windows Server : Rich with features, easy to maintain, easy to use, great for small businesses and some big ones
MS Linux : an OS for security conscious people, great as a webserver, firewall, router, etc.
I think I got it, it's all a marketing strategy. Okay I have no clear idea of what MS is trying to prove by making that announcement. But after all the interviews and tests to pass to work as an MS programmer, it'll be unlikely that a programmer was dumb enough to open an attachement especially if he doesn't have any anti-virus software installed. If that's true, such an employee should be fired and MS should re-think their hiring techniques.
Or maybe MS is planning a good excuse to go Open Source?

I'll go for the German ones
How about voting for no president and no government, the world would be a much better place.
yeah good point but me I'm too lazy to type : select lastname, firstname, email, title, job, age, location, country, etc from ...
well yeah I am lazy and stupid about some stuff, does this mean that I shouldn't use computers?
Computers were created to make life easier for stupid people, suddenly smart people are using dumb computers.
Let me guess, you're a member of WWF's RTC (right to censor) ?
