why does anyone assume this is strictly for passenger use? passenger trains are currently dead, making the right of way for freight, though if you could cross the country in less than a day where as now it takes days if not longer with massive amounts of freight, would that not also be beneficial? would that not ease up the very expensive air freight contesting passenger flight?
Where I work it takes an average of 5 months to send freight from the factory, it takes longer to get it cross country because of the constant backup of freight, than it does to get it from Indonesia
Some of that is in the dockyards, most of that is from west coast to east coast travel
Maybe because manufacturing a touch screen device with at least a 10" screen, with some of the capabilities of a computer, and with the ability to communicate via Wifi or cellular 3G is a bit harder and more costly than most people realize.

My crappy wifi can barley cross a 10 foot room without blinking out and I went through 3 hubs before I found one that didnt suck (a refurb netgear out of all things), the one at work can barley make it 50 feet of open air before dropping off to doing the 0-5% dance
And people want to trust their lives to it while hauling ass down the interstate inside of a metal box?

well its the laptop, a wifi bridge a psp, wifi printer and a pci card, printer worked ok, but its friggin 3 foot away
