    After someone has seen the restricted document, inflict severe head trauma, wiping it from their memory. If you're not willing to go that far, DRM is pretty pointless.

    Down under, I too am mystified by summary guy's "West" blooper. Australia uses preferential voting for most of it's elections. Geographically we might not be very west, but we're usually lumped in with them politically. This is going to be another "USA sucks" thread. Must .. not .. mock .. America .. *twitch* ..

    The lesson to learn here is that Microsoft file formats are good for about 10 to 15 years if that. If you plan to keep your data longer than that, if you hope for your business, your government, your history to last longer than a decade, proprietary de-facto "standards" just aren't an option.

    In reality, once you release your code, ownership is 99/100ths of the law, but I think the whole point of the very artificial concept of copyright is to entice greedy people to release stuff in the first place.

    I don't care about "protection". Youtube has seen to it that there is a de-facto standard which works on 99% our clients' clients' machines. That's the only real consideration.

    Not a fan of flash either, but the one application it is actually good for is the youtube-style video embedding. I prefer flash to the satan-spawned abominations quicktime & windows media player, as the platform support is better, among other things.

    The fittest specimens will still get the best mates, and the losers will get to bonk only other losers. Someone with one or two serious defects might get to shag someone else with only one or two serious defects, but their offspring, with a cluster-fuck of defects, will be increasingly less likely to reproduce. We can still ensure they have a good quality of life, however, their patent genetic crappiness will make "being allowed to reproduce" moot. Fuck authoritarianism, we don't need it.
