See, one of the lovely things about copyright law is that the author of the work gets to decide what to do with it. If they feel like their work should be distributed to whomever, whenever, however, they can certainly decide that.
There are other people who do not want that. By obliterating copyright, you remove their rights. I don't believe authors should be given the right to dictate what other people do with copies of something the author originally created. Such a "right" is essentially sticking one's nose into other people's business. Corporate efforts to enforce and extend such "rights" screw up society. The fact that so many people accept the copyright myth means humanity took a wrong turn somewhere.
I just found iRATE on one of the pages you linked. It's a nifty idea. Downloads a bunch of random stuff for you directly from the publisher, and you rate it. Then it downloads more stuff based on what you like, and what other users who liked that like. Fun:)
I'd be more interested in a mice vs cat deathmatch. Starve a bunch of mice, starve a cat, then put them in an arena. Find out how many mice it takes to kill a cat in mortal combat.
To get electricity into all their towns they're going to need electricians, draughtsmen, civil engineers, town planners, surveyors, miscellaneous paper-shufflers and so on. To get those they're going to need education.
Your troops are enforcer types in a dystopian reality. While I'm always thrilled to see advances in materials science, and happy to see people that little bit safer, if your troops just stayed home we could use their armor for solar panels and I'd be even happier.
Tech creates new opportunities for everyone, including criminals. The best way to get rid of crime is to give everyone a fair go. In this world, where a child's wealth and education are fated to be little better than their parents', crime is only going to get worse.
Why don't they just put a link to the torrent and a link to the tips-page? Their system is stupid for the same reason DRM is stupid - a superior method is already well established. Trying to compete as a newcomer by offering an inferior service is not at all clever.
Nyet. They engage in wholesale copying, WHICH IS THE WHOLE POINT. People like copying stuff from and for others. It's hard-coded in their "immoral" monkey genes. Monkey see, monkey copy. Accept this simple, obvious fact and make your business model compatible. Radiohead is halfway there.
I have a string of bits, I have a copy tool, now you have a string of bits. Nobody loses anything. Oh. The gatekeepers don't get to tax our transaction. They're no worse off that if it hadn't happened.
Artificial scarcity is not a business model, it's a racketeering model. Observe my crocodile tears for the dying gatekeepers.
The British tried to exterminate the aborigines. Australians just treated them badly, which is bad but not quite as bad as systematic genocide.
Beating you at sport would be that much more satisfying if our flag didn't contain your flag. It's like we're 3/4 cheering for us, 1/4 for you. Yet we still win most of the time.:)
Are you a real Aussie? Never seen one get so touchy over bullshit before...
And our history with respect to indigenous Australians is not something to be proud of. Th sooner we scrap the colonial blemish from the corner of our flag the happier I'll be.
The idea of the book, and real life, is to optimize the user experience, not get insane server efficiency at the expense of simplicity.
It's possible (and easy) to write PHP scripts that do 50 or more selects, a few inserts and updates, tons of string manipulation and still load in about a second over a decent connection. Besides, when every page you generate is dynamic, and the content changes every second, the only things cache-able are images, scripts and style-sheets. So you generate the HTML on the fly, and it works.
Users only notice how fast a page loads, and Javascript kludges don't help at all. They might even make things worse, because Javascript is so much slower than PHP and it's quite common for browsers to be running on wimpy hardware. Why risk giving even 5% of your users a horrible experience, when you don't have to?
I suggest using AJAX to enhance the UI, not for premature optimization (the root of much evil).

Trying not to imagine a visual of a bared Jack Thompson.

What if there's four people in the car with a phone each?

Looks like someone forgot to pay their bribes this election season!
I hear they eat their own children too, over in that bad ol' third world.
Those aren't children. They're young women. Get some glasses.

Well done sir, you've just made medical science obsolete! Now all the doctors can become pig farmers or something.
And a ton of bricks is much heavier than a ton of feathers, isn't it?
Now they should try unlicensed clones.
When dealing with an unpleasant person, you have a final option of murder if nothing else works. How do you murder a corporation?
It boils down to no options at all: Grey's law.

Now they just need $2.2 quadrillion to develop a telepathic positronic robot to play god.
Get yourself a HD video camera and a hoarding instinct, won't take all that long.

The law is shit and the penalty far too severe. 99 cents per song would be more like it. I've had enough of this shit.
I propose we do everything we can to exterminate the music industry as it exists today. I'll certainly be doing my part.
If only there was some way to destroy everything you're not a fan of... if only there were more people like you...
