- 1. Its a beta - 2. If it uses another install format, they need to make two different boxed sets, rather than just stick a 4Mb linux client on to the three (four) cd's already in the box. That means twice the management, twice the shelf-space (instore), and twice the confusion. If everything goes into the same box, this box would contain twice the cd's which again would double the cost. And NWN was pricy enough already, thank you very much.
Rather than simply invent a new model, they could bargin out the old one, and give an extra boost, by claiming to have installed a Flash ROM for your convenience.
Same product, new label; and since they never promised that the old one has a Flash Rom you can't feel cheated when you open the box of your new handspring, only to find it eerily similar to the one you already had.
I just came from Kings website, and I saw no mention of "three installments". Furthermore, he expects 1$/installment from the readers, with no indication of how many installments will be available.
Theoretically he could just end each installment with an even more hefty cliffhanger, and see the 75% paying customers fork over more cash just to know how the story ends.
Ultimatly you could wind up paying the 10$ the novel would cost if published by normal means.
As a paying customer, I should be able to assertain the cost for the entire product before making a buying descission.
They did. Just 6 months before the war.
Saddam got an astonishing 100% of the votes; and 100% of the eligble voters actually voted.
Needless to say, the rest of the world was not impressed.

Three weeks ago, the graphics people at my add-agency gave up waiting for Quark for OSX, and bit the bullet and learned InDesign.
Quark really blew it with this one. The people we have were very happy with it, even though it was old & clunky.
Well, I would imagine two things against it:
- 1. Its a beta
- 2. If it uses another install format, they need to make two different boxed sets, rather than just stick a 4Mb linux client on to the three (four) cd's already in the box. Funny thing is, AGP allowed for a 50% discount on the fine, if people payed up instantly.
This sounds to me like they dont exactly trust their own evidence, and hope to bully people into paying.
