Pure speculation here, but I think it's easier to go to England than to Northern Ireland. Flights are cheap, several airlines and you have plenty of flights to choose from. And it's less volatile than in Northern Ireland.
Ireland is a Catholic country. They are to some degree, still very strict. It's the only European country that has a law against abortion (on religious ground), I believe. The nurses and doctors are not allowed to give information about abortion, even, and England has an influx of Irish girls going over to get an abortion, despite the risk of going to jail.
I think there is something to this. My cat has dry food ALWAYS in her bowl, and she couldn't care less about it. She will eat it when she's hungry, but otherwise it's like "you call this food?" She doesn't care much for cans any more, I have to feed her pouch food. And just not ANY pouch food, no, she wants the kind that is 90 cents or higher a meal. I have also found that she will eat her food if I stand there and watch her! If I don't, she will eat what she needs and then leave.
I have changed my behaviour to her eating habits. She now gets the pouch in the morning only, and she darn better eat the dry food at night, or she will have to starve until the morning after (as said, the dry food is always there). But, she is so darn cute, and she makes this cutest little yelp while stretching up towards me, it is SO hard to say no to her. *sigh* She's trained me really well...
First, I don't think you're an inhuman troll:) I just think that like most, you (and I) read the article, which seems like "what are they talking about" and jumped on the assumption that they were trying to legislate porn. I honestly do not think that was what the case was about. I think it was a case about drawing the line. How depraved is our porn going to get before we say no? We have (fortunately!) said no to child porn. This band of people had films were overage actors were dressed to look younger than 18 to have sex with older men. I believe that is not allowed, they HAVE to look older than 18, if I remember correctly (I may be wrong).
As for porn, I am ambivalent. As you said, some do it because they don't have any other options, while others love it. I am of the strong opinion that whatever two consenting adults do, is THEIR option, and we should not meddle. I am European, as I mentioned, where nakedness is very normal, where sex isn't legislated as it is here. Most of Europe let 16 year old (and some younger, I think Iceland it's 14) have sex legally. We don't have laws that ban oral sex (like my state, VA, does). I think a lot of what is wrong with the US is the "moral" people. I probably should say Christian (right), because that's really who we're talking about. As a Christian it pains me that we have forgotten the lessons of Jesus to turn the other cheek, but that's a discussion for another time.
Oh, well, no to go look for a new battery;) (I _am_ joking!)
You haven't been at your wits end, have you? I've been in a mentally abusing relationship as a young woman. No-one held a gun at my head, but I could not leave. The point is this: sometimes you do things you don't want to, because you think you have no options.
I have NO problem with people who like to do these things, BUT there is a GREAT possibility that the people who are IN the films don't want it to happen. To them it's a job, and it's probably pretty degrading to THEM. But they may feel they have no options but to do them, whether they like it or not. Note that I am not talking about normal porn here. I am talking about things that really has nothing to do with sex, but humiliation. This is what they say about themselves: "Extreme Associates bills itself as having the hardest hardcore pornography on the Internet. The studio's content has been described as "extremely violent", "shocking", "slasher porn" and "patently offensive". In an interview with Salon.com Borden said of Extreme's content, "It's disgusting but I like to watch it because it's shocking"."
As I said, when I read the article, I thought exactly like you. "This is ridiculous." Then I did my research, and I realised this wasn't normal porn. If you need more citations, read the article, and follow the link to Wikipedia about Extreme Associates. Here, let me give you the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_Associates
And let me quote: "Kristi Myst broke down during the filming of In The Days of Whore. After having had anal sex for several hours with three men she was told that she had to do anal with another seven men, although she had not agreed to this before the shoot. At this point Myst began crying and wanted to walk off the set and quit the business rather than complete her scene. She eventually relented after being consoled by Tom Byron. Brandon Iron who was present has said the incident was "the foulest thing I have ever witnessed" on a porn shoot." Iron is the guy who tried to sell his slap happy series to 34 companies before this brand of people came along; the guy I talked about with the vomiting during oral sex.
Other quotes: "The filming of Lizzy Borden's movie Forced Entry, which included several simulated rapes, was covered in the PBS Frontline documentary American Porn which aired on February 7, 2002; the makers of the documentary were repulsed and walked off the set."
I will also say this: I have NO problem with people doing whatever they want to behind closed door, as long as they are consenting adults. Heck, I don't mind them filming it and selling it. But where do you draw the line? THAT is what the court has done.
And btw, how do you know that what _I_ do in my bedroom doesn't shock you?
The problem with this company isn't just porn. They actually took it to extreme. In one of their films, one of the actresses were forced to have anal sex with 10 men. She had agreed to three, but after hours of it, she was told she had to do 7 more. She broke down on set. Other films have had women performing felatio while being hit in the face and humiliated, and many even threw up. Other films again had women drink vomit and other bodily fluids. This is some sick stuff!
I don't think it's the sex part they were taken in for, but the repugnant degradation of a human being. I don't care if these were women, had they been men, I would have reacted the same way. Initially, like most people reading this story, I reacted with "Wow, free speech and all," but after some research (I read the article and followed a link to Wikipedia), I realised that the verdict was probably correct.
I have ALWAYS wondered why the American society has been so accepting to violence, but not to sex. I'm European, and always thought it was a bit funny that you easily could depict murder on TV, but a nipple is enough to get everybody's panties in a twist. But I must say, these two people were into some sick stuff, and from what I read about them, there weren't always _consenting_ adults around... Sick, sick, sick.
I agree with a lot of what you are saying about him, but he is not Scottish. He is from Yorkshire, very far north in England. In the UK things like that are very important.
I must admit, I got a Wesley Crusher-flashback... BUT, I think the casting deserves an Oscar. I loved the fact that we get to know some of the back stories, although the time travel causes a paradox in my mind.
I found the film funny, I totally recognised the characters, it had scary moments (the monsters), loving moments, as well as sad. I liked it so much I have already seen it twice. And I am seeing it again this week... And I am a TNG fan! (There is no captain but Picard). In the final scene when Kirk walks on to the bridge, you can actually "see" Shatner in the early years. The mannerisms, the movements, the air of cheeky confidence... For that alone, it's worth it.
Dell is actually one of my favourite hardware companies to deal with. A few years back, I got a drone who got me to explode, which is a feat in itself, and I got a manager. I don't know what I did, but after that explosion, I got nothing but service.
Dell forces their support staff to go through a script. They cannot dispatch anything until they get to the end. I am guessing that in my case, a comment was put on my account, and when I called in, they did as I said, no questions asked.
But that being said, I knew practically all of their engineers, as we had their gold plan, several classrooms, and machines that started braking after about 2 years. I still appreciate that they come and fix the computer the next day, and not let me hanging for days/weeks like some of the other vendors have done in the past...
I am not an American citizen. I don't have the same right as you do. And nothing you say is a contradiction to what I say. I don't dispute that there are rules instated to prevent some of the injustices we've seen these last years.
But. How many of the detainees that were sent there were justified? How many of the freed prisoners were even given a trial (and how long did it take for them to be freed)? How many times did the American government try to fight against the rights you have stated above? How many have actually had their trial? How many officers have been punished for putting anyone in Gitmo? Even those that have been freed with no documented ties to terrorisme whatsoever? What does the PATRIOT act say about detaining suspected terrorists?
I apologise for not making a break after my first sentence, as that probably made it unclear what I meant. American citizens are unlikely to end up in Gitmo -- just to make my statement a bit more clear.
If you are an American citizen, they cannot refuse you entry to your country. And they may TELL you that they have reasonable suspicion, and that is enough for you to end up in Gitmo indefinitely. They don't have to charge you with anything, within the normal 48 hours they've got. It can take months and years. And there is nothing you can do.
I just want to clarify a bit about rpmnew vs rpmsave.
Red Hat will create an rpmsave file when we make a significant change to the configuration file, or a mandatory change. Other than that, we keep the original config file, and store the rpm-config as rpmnew.
Or make up for one's lousy posture and bad habits by getting an occasional massage or visiting a chiropracter, despite the fact that both are the blowjob equivalents of pain relief and do little to make up for what's causing problems in the first place. On this I do not agree. I have gone to a chiropractor in the last 3 months, and from being totally unable to function, I can now put in days pretty much without pain. Nothing but good things to say.
Problem about working from home is that you are never away from the office. It's always there, the phone is ringing, IM is pinging, "you've got mail" and your boss expects you to be around all day.
I work from home, and I have TOS (I wish it was The Original Series, but it means Thoracic Outlet Syndrome). Although I worked in an office for 6-7 years, and the last 1-2 from home, my "desktop" has been my laptop. The strain put on my body by sitting with my hands and head in a wrong position, caused me to nearly stop functioning a few months ago. I couldn't even sleep lying down (I still have issues with sleeping on my right side). I find that I feel guilty when I take a lunch break of an hour (which I gladly did in the office), I cannot wash clothes while at work (as if I was doing it by hand!), and in general feel that I need to compensate for something.
I have learnt the hard way that I need to take care of my body. I take breaks several times a day, to stretch and to have a snack. I don't always succeed in this, but I am always reminded. I have purchased an ergonomic chair, keyboard, mouse. I have an adustable monitor. My laptop has got a new stand for when I am on the road, and I carry a roll-up keyboard and wireless mouse with me. I am by far treated, but I am lot better than I was.
Prevention is the key. Yes, ergonomic keyboards and mice help (I have a Logitech for both), but taking a break and stretching can prevent this painful condition.
Yep. How do you think CentOS/Whitebox/Oracle got hold of the OS? Free to download from the ftp-site: ftp.redhat.com:/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Serve r/en/os/SRPMS
Not true. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is completely open source, it is free to download from Red Hat. There are applications on top (GFS, Directory server etc), but these are open sourced as soon as possible, and NOT part of the product.

"I think you have some valid points concerning the changes Red Hat made and to this day I think they are missing out on some easy revenue with smaller companies/individuals that need an inexpensive support solution, but some of what your saying doesn't make sense."
It is interesting that in the 10 years Red Hat was doing just that, we hardly broke even. Only when we went Enterprise did we start making money. Having been in the company both before and after RHEL, I know I sleep better knowing that we actually make money, and there is a good chance that the company has enough money to pay me.
I work for Red Hat because it is a seriously cool place to work (although I work in a sales office...). I believe in Open Source (one of the reasons I started working there), and I am extatic that management "got it" from that perspect. We are not perfect, far from it, but we are working on improving the things we're bad at, and continue doing the good things we do.
Since Red Hat Linux 9, there has been dependancy resolving available. It requires an installation tree or repository, if you like, a list of available rpms (which is installed by default) and the command line addition "--aid". In addition, you can yum-repositories or RHN, which will also resolve dependancy.
I have had the "pleasure" of working with Windows in various fashions, some I have never managed to install on certain modern hardware, and the rest did not give me any of the things I needed.
Example: I had to reinstall windows on my laptop a couple of years ago, and chose win2k. After the installation, I realised that although my monitor could do 1400x1050, the default was 800x600. The driver wouldn't support anything better. So, I had to go online and search for a driver. But wait, there is more! There was no driver for my network card! As a result, I had to boot into Linux, go online, download the drivers I thought would match, reboot into windows and install them. Unfortunately, I never got the network driver to work, so I canned Windows completely at that time.
Similarly, I just reinstalled the laptop two weeks ago, and to my surprise, even the wireless card just worked!
As for the media support, thank the industry for that. FC5 is a Red Hat product, and the RH lawyers won't allow anything that can make you vulnerable for a lawsuit. It's actually a good thing, although annoying!
And if Apple now decided you could only play the song once, and then you have to delete it, AND they reserve the right to send in someone to check twice a week, that is OK with you?

The plumbing reminded me of real ships engines. Yes, the big ones on water. I thought this ADDED to the realism of the film.

I am biased here, as I have worked with SELinux for years now, but Red Hat actually have a 4-day training course on SELinux: https://www.redhat.com/courses/rhs429_red_hat_enterprise_selinux_policy_administration/
I am doubly biased as I wrote the first incarnation of the course. (Yes, I am a Red Hat employee. Over 9 years now.)
