Pretty lame, but coast to coast AM has the same deal. $6 a month... Oh yeah, and there is no refund for episodes missed by cancelling early. Oh, and there is no "cancel now, and end my service at the end of the month."
My guess is that they get a lot of peopople who don't stay subscribers, or wouldn't unless they could figure out how to get those last couple episodes that they already paid for in.
Only a few people would really be able to participate in this though. You have to be able to leave your job, never come back to it, and be guaranteed that future employers won't hold this against you.
I hold my country to fairly high standards. I try to correct the problems that my country has. I don't hold my country to double standards.
I merely stated, and it is true, that there is a large anti-American faction on Slashdot. I am not talking about liberals, democrats, or anything else. I am talking about people who just say "America Sucks," and say that because it is the cool thing to say.
Incidentally, I live with a foreign national. Most of my coworkers are foreign nationals. Many of my friends are foreign nationals. None of them have ever decided to tell me how much my country sucks. A few Americans have.
It really is amazing. "Americans have no manners," coming out of the mouth of an American citizen, speaking to other Americans.
Oh, come on now. Any organization that can hold giant bitching sessions about the U.S. while simultaneously spending all of its money, and then bitch about the U.S. not paying its member dues can't be all bad.
Don't you remmeber, this is Slashdot, News for People who Hate America, Stuff about Hating America.
I looked back and wished I was carrying one of these for years. I had a boss who told me outright that he was behaving in a manner that nobody at the company would approve of, simply because he could, and that I could do nothing about it.
When I complained, he would say "I never said that."
I got a reputation for being difficult to work with, backstabbing, rude... All I ever asked for was a different boss. I only asked because he was rude to me. Not just rude, his conduct was apalling and shocking.
I eventually quit. I'm in a much better position now, so it worked out for the best.
They were running through open proxies in order to avoid blocks set up to block their IP. They also were scanning for such proxies.
So, no they weren't planting trojans all over the place, they were just borrowing everyone else's machines (a jerky thing to do) to get past blocks set up to stop them from being jerks.
Then, when someone called them on it, they resorted to mafioso tactics to make life hard for that guy. To show him who's boss.
I would have asked to be placed under protective custody by the police. I've known the kind of messed up people who would do this sort of thing. When they are in charge, there is no depth too deep for a company to sink to.
I've dealt with a situation like this before, but because of the sensitivity of the matter, decline to comment on it here.
That said:
1) He was working from home. 2) He downloaded CVS archives that he was working on. 3) He sent a letter to the company first. 4) He threatened to disclose their illegal activity, I didn't see anywhere discussing publishing source code.
Is the company supposed to let him go... no. Of course, he hasn't actually done anything illegal (did you see their source code anywhere?). The police were willing to confiscate his equipment with what amounts to no evidence.
What are you arguing? That he was upset and could have done something illegal with the equipment?
FBI agents and investigators in the other nations conducted 90 searches starting Wednesday, arresting four people and shutting down at least eight major online distribution servers for pirated works
In other news, 78 people are shaken up from being raided over something as stupid as filesharing.
The Ultra 3 Mobile Workstation will list at $3,400 and is equipped with Sun's Ultrasparc processor, the Solaris 10 operating system, 512 megabytes of memory, a 40 gigabyte hard drive and WiFi connectivity.
Wow, and so inexpensive (I write from my P4 desknote with a Gig, 60 Gigs HDD, DVD+RW, bluetook, widescreen, that cost ~$1000, 8 months ago).
I look forward to have a whole new set of software that is completely incompatible with my, now 8 month old, Dell Inspiron 9100.
It reallly was incredible, the second transparency was added to X11. I had it running on my old computer a couple days before my laptop arrived. I was thinking "Wow, this is going to look so nifty with that neat $300 graphics card."
It really teaches you a lesson when the computer you had built yourself 4 years earlier runs the applications both faster and better looking.
Now, months later. I can run X.Org just fine, with no compmgr, or, I can have DRI. That's so nifty. I mean, I get to choose, the software that has worked for, nearly a year now, perfectly on the competitor's hardware, or the 3D that my graphics card was built for.
Please note that I wasn't saying that Global Warming doesn't exist. I was merely pointing out that half of this discussion has been based on heresay and stabs in the dark.
It really does become pointless if you don't apply any effort to back your words, doesn't it?
Nuclear power is a known commodity that works quite well.
It's worth researching the others, but, if I understand right, the real-estate for solar panels is quite large by relation to power output (something that's been improving recently).
Nuclear is certainly a better option than fossil fuel, don't you think? I mean, we don't have to get fuel from a war-zone. It's cheap. Also, even if containing the waste leads to a risk of contamination, it doesn't lead to the sure-thing contamination of fossil fuel.
Well, technically, by funding such a massive project, you boost the economy... increasing the GDP of involved countries and boosting the values of involved interests.
That said, with out government and CEOs working together, they'd probably siphon all of the money out of the country into the hands of some country who doesn't care much for us... who would then proceed to nuke us into a sheet of glass.
It sure is convenient to blame automobiles. It's really quite wildly inaccurate though.
If you want to fix global warming.
1) Switch go power plants that don't use fossil fuels. They're utilities. You only have to replace a few. You can boost the enconomy doing so. We already have the technology to do this.
2) Change HVAC systems to something that is more friendly. We have reasonably good technology to do this.
3) After that, you've cut down emissions by (up to) 66%. If you really want to chase after automobiles, at this time, then you've got my blessing because you did the logical and rational thing. Of course, the technology will be better by the time you've knocked the first two out, but only because everybody is busily attacking the wrong problem.
Also, while you're taking care of #1, remember that building a hydroelectic dam requires you to dam up a river, potentially causing irreversible damage to the environment (flooding the homes of animals, changing the landscape). Windmills kill birds. Solar cells take up real-estate too. Do this right. Build a nuclear plant. They're clean and safe.
Oh yeah, remember, if yoy want to promote electric cars (not saying you do), remember that they need electricity from somewhere... like say a nice coal fired electrical plant.

although they don't necessarily want the adware.
That seems to infer that there is a group of people that do want it.
This is actually, a very good idea.
Only a few people would really be able to participate in this though. You have to be able to leave your job, never come back to it, and be guaranteed that future employers won't hold this against you.
Since those guys were among the few human muppets, the ACLU.

I've made a number of posts that received unabashedly anti-American replies.
Not like "the war in Iraq is bad," more like "you and your country suck"

The FBI, brought to you by the RIAA
Hrmm.
I don't know. I worked on Sun hardware for 3 years professionally, and 3 as a college undergraduate (early graduation, I didn't fail out) before that.
I'm not saying that there's no truth in what you're saying, but I will say that for $3,400, I can get a really decked out Intel machine.
Incidentally, this particular one has seen some pretty heavy use.

Next time, I'm buying nVidia.
Science is acceptable.

Because, scientifically, there is no real debate anymore over whether or not man is impacting the climate and causing global warming.
Awesome. Have you a link to a paper in a reputable journal that discusses this finding? Who was it that finally, conclusively, proved this?
How much landscape are we talking about. Now you're talking about developing undeveloped wilderness, which isn't exactly great for the environment.
Also, how much power output can we expect? How much will it cost?
posted ac cuz im a coward and don't feel like looking up anything i said
Well, at least we know it comes from a credible source.

Yes, that part was pretty poorly done.
