Any developer that writes an app that requires admin rights on the desktop should be beaten and stabbed. (yes, you should be able to disable auto-updating)
If I want to run "ping" or "telnet", I have to open a ticket with the IT Helpdesk.
I don't have rights to install hardware, so if I plug in a new mouse I have to open a ticket with the IT Helpdesk.
Three times a week, they push an update for Windows Media Player that forces a reboot when I'm in the middle of something important. Virus scans start every day at 10:00AM and run for four hours.
Every programming blog in the intarweb is blocked for "Social Networking".
Most of the time, when the IT Helpdesk finally arrives, I have to help them do whatever it was I opened the ticket for.
So don't get me started on the beating and stabbing.
Is this the same budget that is proposing cutting to zero the funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting? These programs provide far more social good and support democracy (a viewpoint I am still not quite jaded about, yet)
If you agree with their bias, yes. I don't want my tax dollars going to support an agenda. I wouldn't want my tax dollars going to Fox News, either.
Back before I gave up the land line, it always cost around $60/month and dialup internet was another $20/month. And that would go WAY up if I actually called anyone outside of my rural county - like $.15 - $.35 a minute. Also remember that rural dialup doesn't happen at 56kbps. More like 22kbps. Couple that with today's fat bloated web sites and it'd be hopeless to do anything useful.
$65/month for a smartphone with unlimited data, unlimited nights and weekends, and free long distance is a fantastic deal compared to a land line monopoly.
If this story is true, it sounds like Assange must be as charming as George Clooney and must be a skilled martial artist with nunchucks, which he needs to beat back the women folk.
It really isn't that hard to hook up for sex. I find it much easier to believe that he knows places to find women of loose morals than it being a big CIA conspiracy.
I went to high school in the humid southern U.S. in a non-airconditioned school. The heat was stifling. During the same time period, a nearby prison was closed because it was not air conditioned.
The prize given to Obama was meant to award America for choosing someone they believed would lead us away from war, not so much to award Obama himself.
Obama flat out said that he would be ramping up the war in Afghanistan and would be eying Pakistan next. Was anybody listening?
My response would be: what do you want Mr. Obama to do about it?
To start with, not host a grand celebration for the leader of an hostile oppressive communist government. But on the other hand, he can't exactly turn away the leader of the government that's financing his social programs.
Maybe slashdotters are different from normal people, but what would you do if you recieved the Nobel Peace prize?
I'd eBay it.
Even Obama recognized the ridiculousness of being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize after 3 days in office. I'd have respected him if he'd declined it and asked for them to consider him again in 4 or 8 years after he'd had the chance to earn it. Which he isn't, of course.
How many IE users realize that their Google searches/results are being sent to Microsoft for analysis? Not that Google doesn't analyze their own searches/results...but....WTF?
A lot more people have the Google toolbar.
Google should use this to send false results to Microsoft.
It's been a few years, but the last time I used dialup, v.32 9600bps still worked.
What really amazed me was a friend who still had a US Robotics HST modem from the very early 90's (9600 bps) that would connect at 56K (X2?) after just a firmware upgrade. Talk about a tool that never dies! Of course, those things were almost $1000 when they came out.
I've stopped installing or even looking at new apps. The novelty of some new widget has been lost because every one wants full access to my phone calls, SD card, camera, network, GPS, etc.. I really don't care how many apps are in the market.
Also, I've stopped updating anything. Every time an app updates, the new version comes with ads. As if selling my data wasn't enough.
2010 Toyota Tacoma V6: 14 city 18 hwy
2010 Toyota Tacoma 4cyl: 17 city 22 hwy
2010 Chevrolet K1500 4WD V8: 15 city 21 hwy
Size doesn't seem to make a lot of difference in economy. The 4 cylinder mini isn't much better than the V8 full size, and the V6 mini is worse! The K1500 Hybrid is better than both Toyotas.
I'm not advocating either one. I think they all suck. I want a compact 4wd 4-cylinder diesel with a manual transmission. Delete all the stupid options and give me 30+mpg.
President Bush used to joyride around the D.C. beltway. Traffic would grind to a halt while they closed every road in the region. I don't care what it costs, please keep the president off the public roads!
4x4, 5.9L, Quad Cab, 5,900 pounds empty weight. I wasn't expecting much but the actual mileage was shocking. I sold it the month before gas went from $2 to $4 a gallon. Strangely, my brother has a Ram 1500 with the same drivetrain and it gets better mileage.
Some day I'm going to buy another Dakota QC and transplant a 3.9L Cummins turbodiesel. That will be the perfect truck.
It's trending larger and larger every year; I'm not going to be surprised when dump trucks become the norm... unless you make it prohibitively expensive to do that.
When CAFE standards killed the station wagon, people started buying Suburbans for family cars and the SUV was born. Now that CAFE is going to kill the SUV, I wouldn't be surprised if people started converting dump trucks. I've already seen a few International commercial trucks converted to luxury pickups.
Money really won't be the issue. Some trucks and SUVs are already over $60k. Taxes won't stop those people.
I had one of those that averaged 12mpg. I thought I was being economical for buying a mid size truck, but it was every bit as bad as a full size. Even a compact Toyota doesn't do much better than about 15mpg.
Or $3108 for each compromised account. My wife's account was one of these. It was a hassle to clean up the mess, but not really a $3k problem, not that we'd turn it down. I'd sell my account for that.
I shaved.

they all were lead to think (from their own sources I suppose) that the app was actually used for confessing and getting absolved through it
I could script that, and then go out and have all the fun I wanted!

The problem would solve itself.
Why does a prison cell need a power outlet?

Take that Creationism!
It always bothers me that they put such a tiny limit on God.

But seriously people. If you use your phone in extreme conditions and it fails, that is not something that should ever be covered under a warranty.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but an iPhone is a cellular telephone, right?
I'm just wondering. If it is, then it needs to handle temperatures and humidity that a cellular telephone might normally encounter.

I agree, but the logistics become very difficult. Would he hop on his bike?
From his election campaign, you'd think he could just put on a cape and fly or part the seas when he needs to travel.

Settled for the smallest Dakota instead.
