If we were in the middle of a revolution, I would *very* strongly suggest that people not vote.

And wait for the folks with the biggest gun to seize control.

Even if no one votes for the possible dictator, there is no guarantee they won't gain power. Remember that you are in a revolution. This probobly means that the old power structure is effectively gone. The people running the elections are already in control. You can bet your ass that they will set up the elections to win, or throw the results out if they lose.

All not voting would get you is the satisfaction of saying "Don't blame me, I didn't vote for this asshole."

The cable company sounds sort of puzzled when you ask about cable modems, and DSL is out of the question because of how far the switches are spaced out around here.

Err... sort of... I frankly DONT like the idea of making only SOME comments moderatable. The system works well enough now, and will be better when M2 is a part of the article, but restricting moderators further seems unneccesary. Most of us are big kids now and know what and how to moderate, and the system can fix any evils done by the BAD PEOPLE, by way of the GOOD PEOPLE and their moderation points. To make some comments un-moderatable would hurt the GOOD PEOPLE exactly as much as the BAD PEOPLE, and in the long run won't really do anything.

Its my personal opinion that the moderators should be a little more heavy handed in downgrading posts. Lately slashdot has felt like some teen channel on IRC, and it gets old. I wonder how many readers read the headlines and completely skip the comments. I certainly wouldn't mind missing some of the "choice" comments that have little or nothing to do with the article, and I could especially do without grammar/spelling nazis, but if I or anyone else felt masochistic its simple to adjust one's threshold.
