    Sad as it is, knowing what I know about how stuff gets done in Australia, I'd have to say, that its less likely that there is corruption involved, and rather that some public servants just can't be bothered actually preparing a list and authorizing its distribution to the public...

    Debian also has a distribution for PowerPC

    don't forget BlackLab...

    OpenBSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD...

    Hell, some of my older macs can even run BeOS...

    Can you run YellowDog, BlackLab or MacOS or even OSX on your x86 hardware?

    Then again, VirtualPC5 is now out for OSX so you can install and run any x86 operatin system on OSX (and in fact as many as you want at the same time (given resource limitations, but this is a UNIX system after all ;))

    Ummm

    Probably because the game requires more people to work longer. Plus the game also requires these people to work after the release, and then the support.

    Think about it for a second... you don't get patches or phone support from the RIAA...

    Your 3 group band singing in a studio with a few producers etc etc for 12 months is not equal to the 8 programmers and 18 artists (including musicians) + 'menial staff' ;) that goes into a game.

    A game is larger than an audio cd.

    Another interesting point is that it comes down to the counting to...

    The example I like to use is that someone gets busted for marijuana, they have 8 seedlings in a potting mix (or whatever)

    Of course the newspaper article will talk about 8 plants were seized with a street value of 16,000AUD

    You see, a plant == $2,000AUD to the australian police.

    And the seedlings are plants.

    Well, in MPEG circles it's generally agreed that codec (not an acronymn) stands for coder/decoder, a much more general term than compressor/decompressor

    DIMMS instead of SODIMMs, that's roughly a 50% saving

    3.5" instead of 2.5", another 50% saving

    GeForce 2MX instead of Mobile Radeon thingy, another 50% saving ;)

    NO BATTERY

    NO CHARGER

    Okay, you use the same cpu, and peripheral controllers, but all the other components are significantly cheaper in an iMac as they essentially can use PC desktop components...

    Normally they do use laptop mechansisms for the optical drive.

    The 20th Anniversary Macintosh (TAM) was an all in one flat panel mac.

    Of course, it used laptop components and was hell expensive.... and very very cool :)

    But its been done before, and by Apple, and YEARS ago.

    The thing had a 66mhz CPU (or some such) if that puts it in perspective for you...

    And it came with a BOSE sub :)

    1) you can't unselect it
    2) its not optional

    they deleted a part of the installer, it just happened to be a module.

    That's normally how you crack software...

    in fact, take a full version, get the free upgrade version, compare it against the full version, now release a patch to convert the upgrade to the full version.

    That's what macfixit did.

    Its just that there was only a very small difference... the "check" function...

    Just like most software... removing the check function is what most software kRaCkZ do.

    I don't know about in the US, but I'd be pretty sure that telling people that someone's car has the keys in the ignition and is absolutely waiting for you to just step in to it and steal it is probably illegal in most sensible countries...

    The only way to "turn off the package" is to delete it from the Update CD.
