Having been in IT consulting for a large software company in the US and Europe for several years my experience has taught me to prefer working with women in the field. They usually bring a higher social competence to the job while being usually technologically outstanding because a hostile environment has taught them that they have to be in order to be taken serious.
It may not all be politics that fast track women in IT for promotions.
Just in case somebody is wondering what company this injunction was targeting:
According to
heise it is Sitecom.
An immediate consequence of this judgment will be that Sitecome will not be able to market their offending router products in Germany unless they start complying to the GPL.
There is an interesting twist to this case. The company that has been sued in Germany is named on Sitecome's website as distributor for Germany - they also happen to be a wholly owned subsidiary.
They argued that since they do not produce but only sell and support the products that the issue should be brought up with there parent company and that they are in essence not responsible for sitecome.com's actions. This argument was dismissed by the court because they were the only one's listed for Germany on the website. This brings up the interesting questions would this judgment also apply to independent distributors of Sitecome's product who happen to be listed on their site? The way this judgment is worded I tend to believe the answer is yes - alas I am not a lawyer.
I am certain every French person who lost somebody due to failings in the health care system or mistakes of their own feel very passionate about this. What I do not see is how your taking on France over this matter is supposed to achieve?
And again, having lived through this summer I can attest that it was without precedence. In France even nuclear reactors needed to be taken of the grid because rivers couldn't provide enough coolant any more. Nothing neither health system nor buildings nor nuclear power plants were designed for such an extended heat wave because it was without historic precedence.
If you need to blame somebody blame my country for the holocaust after all this was cold blooded mass murder. To blame France for a failing health system dealing with a crisis never encountered before is in my opinion rather hypocritical especially when done in a context were it pretty much just looks like you try to shift blame away from your own nation (assuming you are a US citizen).
I've been in Germany last summer. It was the hottest summer in history. Most buildings in Europe - residential as well as commercial - do not have air conditioning because historically you didn't need it.
Most of the people who died because of the heat in France and Germany were elderly and their circulatory system could simply not cope with the temperature. To blame this on too many people being on vacation is pretty silly.
If such an amount of chemical ammunition (BTW classified as left-over from the Iraq-Iran war back when the US supported Saddam) justifies an invasion your army will be kept very busy for the forseeable future. Best of luck with that!
Actually, even if you count only the percentage of Americans that actually do vote as all Americans the current administration didn't even get a majority vote from those.
So no, the majority of Americas did note vote for their government in this broken republic.
Currently not. But that is likely to change at the next national election. The CDU/CSI is likely to win in two years and I doubt very much that the CDU has any more sense when it comes to OSS.
Then again if for instance Siemens would get onto the Linux bandwagon the CSU will probably overcome their reservations pretty quickly.
But given the inertia of German management that may take a long time.
The worst part is that I actually voted for these baffoons.
Now, why would you do such a thing?
Anyway, for good measure I think to imply that the CSU is to the right of Bush is rather exaggerated. I certainly can not stand Stoiber, but at least he seems to have some brains. The CSU has also by far not such a catastrophic track record in environmental issues as Bush. His administration has been working hard on undoing every environmental safe-guard in the USA since it took over. For instance: I can not recall any CSU politician denying the existence of global warming.
Try to identify this and map it to a field of study. In my case I wanted to find out what makes the world tick. So I studied physics. Never regretted it once.
Later I got somewhat sidetracked with artificial neural networks and launched into an IT career from there. While this has been financially rewarding I try now to work my way back into something closer to physics (quantumcomputing).
Yes. And an aunt of mine lived their during the war. While the actual destruction was not at all as devastating as what Germany had to endure, it was certainly not for lack of trying. My aunt gave a very gripping account of the terror that the V2 evoked. It was a death that you did not see coming since it was the 1st supersonic weapon ever. She told us "if you heard it you knew you were al right this time. But it made you feel vulnerable all the time because you weren't save anywhere in London, and there was nothing anybody could do against it." It was perfect state terrorism.
Perhaps, but given how much advanced gas was produced, like sarin, you would think a reasonable person, upon hearing of the attrocities committed by the Russian army as they advanced through East Prussia would make you give up that resolve.
Ever cared to read an objective biography on Hitler?
Hundreds of thousands left, even according to Jewish sources.
A grand-aunt of mine was married to a Jewish German. His name was Wilhelm - as German a name as you can get at the time. They were both chemist and managed to get away to the US before it was to late, but all of Wilhelm's family perished in the Holocaust. His sister and her husband made it to France just to be arrested the night before trying to make their final get-away by boat. I always admired him for being able to come to Germany without hate.
So, what were all those Jews doing from the time Hitler was elected in 1933 until the holocaust supposedly happened in 1943?
If you would care to educate yourself on the issue you would know that the discrimination against Jewish Germans started very gradually. First the synagogues burned, than they had to wear stars, then they were held in ghettos and then gradually they vanished out of sight. The Nazis were very careful in not advertising what happened to the people in concentration camp. They were "just" supposed to be forced to work, and many in fact were exploited that way. It has been reported that even many inmates of the concentration camps thought it was inconceivable that Germany even as badly tainted by Nazism as it was would simply kill its own citizen. A lot of effort was spend on entertaining this illusion. Making the gas chambers in the camps look as inconspicuous as possible (sometimes a shower head was just a device to release water but sometimes it would release something far more lethal).
You can go to Auschwitz and take a look for yourself at the streamlined manufactory of death. Efficient as a state of the art slaughterhouse. If you compare for instance with how many cattle is slaughtered per year in the US the number of victims becomes absolutly plausible.
Mod it up if you have to but don't call it insightfull or interesting because it is fundamentally trolling. Only that this is not about software but about disregarding millions killed in concentration camps.
This is not about "disagreeing with my opinion". It is about misrepesenting historic facts.
Usually if somebody spouts ignorant falsehood about IT issues on this board the moderators eventually catch it.
It makes the German WW2 efforts almost sound nobel for not "resorting to massive targetting of civilian population centers". So why exactly did my country shoot and V2 and V1 towards London?
The only reason that Germany did not use poison gas was because of the paranoia over this weapon that Hitler developed when serving in WW1. I am quite certain he would have embraced nukes with glee if somebody would have given them to him.
And what is this BS about most Jews having emmigrated? The once that were able to leave the country were a lucky few. To give the impression that most jewish Germans were able to escape the Holocaust is simply a lie and a disgrace.
Good point. The economies with the best bet on when exactly we will run out of fossile fuel will find themselves at a significant competitive advantage. Time will tell if the first movers like Iceland benefit more than rather complacent coutries like the United States.
Given Moore's public comments and a previous work I never bothered to watch any of his current movies and I won't. Also, you may have come out with that impression of the movie but he personally certainly never presented his movie in that light while in the US. He also has a preponderancy to discuss his personal opinion presenting them as objective impartial pieces.
Do I understand you correctly in that you are basically saying that without looking at any of his work you formed a rather firm opinion about him that will preclude you from ever looking at his work?
So you have seen the movie? Your comment confuses me somewhat. I thought it was quite easy to distinguish between Moore editorializing i.e. him pushing his opinion and the factual bits of the movie.
Anyway this movie was still raising more questions then answers. Moore suggested that the reason for the culture of violence is to be found in the instutionalized racism and the residue fear that it left when abolished. But for me that was certainly just a thought that he tossed out to explore and not really an answer at all.
Id does go both ways. That's why I think it very much is a cultural issue. In my experience many Americans seem to be unable to discuss political issues without getting emotional about it. The discussions also always tend to zero in on the character of politicians.
I never understood this. I think Politicians should be solely judged on their actions and detailed suggestions regarding pressing issues.
That is a point well taken. Yet, even if a carefull analysis would have concluded that Saddam has to be removed I remain convinced that a more skillfull administration could have build there case so that UN and Europeans would have been on bord.
Just a thought - but in north Africa and the middle East you find many desert regions right next to the ocean.

Some of us are German and we are used to be hated by everyone else although we've been trying sooo hard for the last 59 years.
Frankly, I simply do not get national stereotyping. What's the point of it?

Jewish Germans were used to were stars that marks them as Jewish but not forced to leave Germany.
The assertion that there were no Jewish Germans left to kill is simply false.

By far more than survived

The number of Jewish people killed in the holochost by far outweights the number of Jewish people who survived (by emmigration or other means).
Moderators are supposed to supress falsehood. The original comment clearly makes the point that more Jewish people escaped than have been killed.
In dubio pro reo. Let's assume the poster did not know better.
As a German I find this comment rather tastless.
It makes the German WW2 efforts almost sound nobel for not "resorting to massive targetting of civilian population centers". So why exactly did my country shoot and V2 and V1 towards London?

The winner of the commercial contest is this clip
There are no Nazis nor Hitler and no words in this clip.
Other clips have been recogniced in other categories.
Don't think you will be able to see anybody equating Bush with Hitler in there either.
One clip in poor test has been sent to the MoveOn.org contest that indeed did compare Bush to Hitler. Moveon.org did clearly state that it did not endorse this clip
The fact that you think that MoveOn.org believed this clip to be the best of their commercials says a lot about America's media.
My apologies. It did indeed escape my attention that you specifically referenced older work of his.

Maybe I should have pointed out that I am sometimes sarcastic in my comments. Always hard to convey.
But in all seriousness I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of whoever has to stear the US out of this mess.
That is a point well taken. Yet, even if a carefull analysis would have concluded that Saddam has to be removed I remain convinced that a more skillfull administration could have build there case so that UN and Europeans would have been on bord.
