There was a version of this around here in southeast Missouri 5-6 years ago. Young guy in a Ford Escort going down the highway found his car accelerating on its own, couldn't stop. He drove for 100 miles or so at over 100mph before he ran out of gas. So this isn't an isolated incident!
Kinda funny to load slashdot and see this article, as not even five minutes ago I checked my email and found some spam with an e-mail tracking redirect to http://www.arnold-2003.com/ trying to get me to buy a t-shirt...
Okay, let's not talk about global warming for a second. What about strip mining? The burning of the rain forest? Toxic waste dumps? hhmmm.... and "we are NOT abusing our environment"??? Somehow, I just don't see that.
You're right. Look at adults whose parents talked to them about sex and explained things when they were younger, and they, on average, have much happier/healthier lives. They don't usually end up being the teenage parents. It's the people screaming 'Let's protect the children! porn is evil! sex ed is bad!' that end up with the children that have babies at 15. Also, to go completely offtopic, if people realized sex isn't evil and agreed to talk to their children and let them be taught about birth control instead of just abstinance in sex ed, a lot of things would be better.
Personally, I don't have a problem with a.prn domain, but forcing the sites to move to this tld is wrong. And who will determine what other sites are 'harmful to children' and have to move? will we be going to 2600.prn now? it's already blocked by several software filters. or how about cnn.prn? cnn, you say? well, i'ts 'harmful to children' i mean, just look at some of the stuff people to to each other. two siblings kill their younger brother, for instance. and that's not harmful? how about project gutenberg? i'm sure some of the books would be 'harmful to children'...let's just hope this bill doesn't make it very far.
"Realistically the response rate on these suckers is really damn good. Anywhere from 5-20% for a good tie-in. So obviously there are people who do want this stuff."
To me it's the same as buying a candy bar standing in line at the grocery store. You don't really want it, but it's there being offered to you, and it looks good. And, a lot of times after you get it, you no longer want it, but you did buy it, so you might as well eat it...
If you read the Lindows policy, it does state they will give up the information to a court order. And, of course, if they don't, a certain other company will just continue to throw lawyers at them until they do.
But yes, I would go to jail if I told my customers the information was private and no one was going to have access to it. That's the kind of person I am.
It's simple: if you say you have a 'privacy promise', you do. Nothing can compromise that. Not even a legal supoena. True, the law might say you have to, but you made a promise not to disclose that information. That's much higher than so called 'law'. If we can't keep our word, who is to say what we can make people believe in? Look at the goverment for example. "Oh, we don't like this treaty, let's just do away with it even though we said we'd honor it." Sound famaliar?
Hell, they might threaten me with jail time, but I'd destroy the documents and spend my time in jail before I broke an agreement. Especially just because some company with more money than brains desides they don't like me.
Some time it's not bad parenting. I'm not saying they aren't at fault, but it's not all their fault. That lies with the one who committed the crime. In my opinion, the "I am bad because my parents beat me" excuse should just get you extra punishment.
Speaking of television studios, have you ever wondered why some big chain stores (like Wal-Mart and K-Mart) censor their music, but not anything else?
"Oh, it wasn't the music little Johny listened too, that was censored! It was those DVDs he watched, those games he played, even a few of those books he read! The music had all the bad stuff taken out of it, we won't sue them! It was those other people's fault!"
Really, some people need to get a grip.
I totally agree with you. I try to do the same as you, and have some level 99 join on open realms and everyone flocks to him looking for help and unique/rares. And on closed realms, it's too damn laggy, it seems like when we finally get a good party together, we get lagged off!
There is a story...I *really* wish i could think of the name of it.... takes place in the future,in this communist society like place. This guy re-discoveres electricity, but when he takes it to the rulers, they wo'nt accept it because of all the candle makers they will put out of bussiness. They had just gone to candles from torches one hundred years before and don't want to change again so soon.
The scary part is....things like this happen!
*pulling hair out by this time*
What is it with all of you 'nader cost gore the election'-idiots? In my opinion, Bush and Gore should both be disqualified and we should have a new election. There is hardly any difference in these two! Get the other parties to put their candidates back up and let us vote on them. And bar big business and what-not from having anything to do with the election! Give them all a certain amount of money, and two weeks to campaign. Then we vote on who we think would do the best job, having a run-off election between the top two a week or so later! Sounds fair to me!
Okay, this subject touches a nerve with me, because my best friend has RP. She's only 20 now, and is almost totally blind. She is also the nicest person I know.
"People need to take genetic self responsibiility by not injecting their defective DNA into the genepool!"
Well...sorry....but sometimes, a disability makes for a better person. I, personally, wouldn't mind if the whole world were infected with her DNA. Sure, we might not be able to see, but it would be a hell of a lot better place than it is now!
She's in a regular college right now, taking regular classes. She doesn't want to be treated different than anyone else. She works much harder than a normal person to do the same things. I, for one, hope she has lots of kids just like her--even if they have RP, like i said, the world will be just a bit better.
Moral of the story: usually people with something that doesn't make them 'normal' perform better personally, sociably, and at work. Most assholes are just 'normal' people.
Keep a police whistle by the phone. After a couple of days, when they keep calling, answer it, make sure it's them, then blow the whistle. They don't call back.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
Why in the world would you go to the trouble of making a new measurement system when the old one works? And why adopt a measurement system that is totaly different from the current one that's been in use for hundreds of years? Makes more sense to try to standardize the current system. Oh well. Leave it to the french to make absolutely no sense. At least standard has a real basis about where the measurements came from orignally...metric was just made up. "Oh, i have this chunk of metal here, let's make it the base measurement, okay?"

Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!

No, i meant future...but alcohol + lack of sleep = confused logic. It seemed perfectly logical atm...

I'm sending a message into the future! ahah! it is possible!
Hello from last year! I can say that for another hour, at least!
There is a story...I *really* wish i could think of the name of it.... takes place in the future,in this communist society like place. This guy re-discoveres electricity, but when he takes it to the rulers, they wo'nt accept it because of all the candle makers they will put out of bussiness. Amen!
...but... there is another episode(?) after this...called Hell's Spawn.
Um....I believe that's right. And if not technically correct, it is the acceptable form to use.

I agree...there are too many humans!
mmm...didn't mean to connect her being a nice person and her having RP. my father is disabled, and he's an asshole. :-)

Why the hell was this moderated as flamebait? Seems like the moderation system is at it again...
