If MS is being bashed by the media, how many of all the Foxconn articles mentioned that MS products are also made in these same factories?

  2. Re:Not that surprising. on NIN's Music Experiment Sells Big Numbers · · Score: 2, Insightful

It's not that big of a change, however it's far better for their customers, much more efficient and in turn far better for them. I would have to disagree with this statement. Many customers experienced issues downloading the material from the nin.com servers. Of those that did, many did not receive as much as an email from the customer support staff after letting them know that their downloads had failed and the limit allotted to their session id was reached. I am one of those people.

So although it is nice for an artist to go on his own, I think customer service at least in this instance is not there. Lets look at some other models of buying music as examples.

    1) If I were to step into a FYE and buy an album, I know I can return it back to that retailer if the disc is scratched of if I have other issues with the disc. At the very least I will be told I can not return the product rather than being ignored.

    2) If I were to purchase a song or album from iTunes and the download failed, I have a method of reporting the failed download. They state it will take 24 hours to receive a response, but you know what? You actually get a response and any times that I have had issues, they reset the download. Not only that, but I had purchased some ADC (Apple Developer Connection) videos and internet connectivity where I was at sucked and it kept getting disconnected, once I returned home I was able to download the successfully. I thought nothing of it, 2 days later I received a phone call from an ADC rep asking if I was able to receive the files. That is good customer service.

BTW, I opted for the $75 version of the package.

I think most of you are missing the benefit of this as reported and this is not to say that I believe Apple should patent this process.. Let us assume that the reporter is somewhat accurate in describing the patent. What most people here are describing would infer that you were out specifically to get a cup of coffee or pizza, but this could target those impulse shoppers. For example, say I am in a mall and all of a sudden have a craving for a beverage. I know Starbucks is about 10 stores away, so I place my order through my handheld phone, pda whatever. I continue to shop, then my device alerts me that my beverage is ready. I don't need to go to the store and hope my order has been completed, my device lets me know. Its more of a cross between calling ahead and the devices they hand out at restaurants when a table is available for you. Except those are limited to a short distance. The most important part of the application is quoted in the article, "One goal, the patent application notes, is to avoid an"annoying wait in a long queue if the purchaser arrives before completion of the order."" At least that is my interpretation.

On the same note, have you ever tried to change a hdd in a macbook? It is probably the easiest laptop to change a hdd in. You pretty much just need to remove the battery. I don't remember off the top of my head, but their may be 2 locking screws and then the drive just pulls out.

I received my MacBook Pro on Monday of this week. I transferred my data from a 12" PB using the Setup Assistant as well as the author of this review did. I found that application launch times and overall system performance were slower than the 12" PB I was replacing. A friend of mine bought an iMac Intel and had the same issue. I erased my drive last night restored the OS/bundled software and manually moved just my user data over to the MacBook Pro. Application launch times have drastically improved.

I understand that, but it used to be up-to-date news. I remember back in 199x that I would read most of the news first here before other places because either people were quick to report it and it was posted right away, or maybe there just were not as many news sites and not as many are submitting news these days. On the other hand, I suppose it could be that there is just so much more news topics that /. covers/reports these days that it is harder to keep up. Whatever the reason, it certainly has changed. I have noticed it on quite a few article recently.

  11. Photo iPod, also a dud on New Apple iPod with Photo Capabilities · · Score: 1

Besides from missing on the price point, and the minimal functionality of the ipod photo you forget that they have increased the battery life to 15 hours of music playing time. Given that using a backlight on a previous ipod would cause you to not get the "up to 8 hours" of playing time, the new ipod photo will give you "up to 15 hours" while using a backlight 100% of the time. When I first looked at the ipod photo I had for some reason thought it was $200 more than the 4G version, I guess because I would automatically think, get the 60GB,(I just purchased a 40 GB 4G 3 weeks ago) so I thought the the new capabilities where not worth $200 more, but then when I opened my eyes and actually looked at the prices, I feel that it is not a bad deal. I was also able to play with a demo unit at the Apple Store in SoHo, the color screen is very sharp and it was kinda cool to see the album art (in color) as well as the games. I just want to know that if you use the contacts from Address Book in OS X if the pictures associated with that person will also display.

At any rate, I now want to sell my 40 GB and pick up a 60 GB iPod Photo.

  12. Re:Price? on G5 vs Opteron, Finally · · Score: 5, Informative
I've read this sort of argument before, and what it comes down to is the difference in price between a comsumer system (G5) and a pro workstation (dual Opterons are not for the avergae consumer). The manufacturers making dual Opteron systems provide very heavy support - because their market (Engineering, 3d modeling, rendering) demands it. You pay for said support. The G5, however, comes with typical Apple support - which, while very nice, is not at the same level.

Actually, the G5 is Apples Pro Line. Their consumer line consists of the iBook, iMac, and eMac. Their Pro line consists of the PoweBook and Power Mac. Maybe the naming gives it away too... POWER Mac, POWER Book.

  13. Media on Why Kids Kill · · Score: 1

Why can't the media see it for what it is....as the media (television and the likes) have showered the news with the incident since it started almost non-stop, maybe kids who have some family or social problems are getting these ideas from the media. They see it being done and think, "That's a great idea lets start planning one that'll even be bigger than that." I mean they try to blame it on music like KMFDM, and other bands, but why isnt everyone who listens to these bands killing
    people?
I just feel the media have taken reporting news a little too far.
