He might actually have a case about being negatively affected. There are people these days who live by their facebook accounts. Though since he was asking people to add him on Google+, he obviously has a Google+ account, so he might not be affected all that much. On the other hand if he's an app developer he might be losing revenue if his account gets blocked (I'm not entirely sure if facebook apps work that way though).
how about these people also grow some balls and stick to moral grounds themselves and entirely disregard said product instead of bootlegging it?
Absolutely. Bootleggers don't NEED the movies or music or video games they pirate. They WANT them, and so they believe they deserve them just... because they exist, I guess?
I completely agree with you as far as movies. Though to be honest, when I used to torrent movies (before I got Netflix) it was mostly to find out if the movie was any good, since often that can't be determined from the teaser trailers. I would generally buy the movie afterwards if I liked it, since most torrents are poor quality. I wonder if that counts as piracy still?
I fully expect that if my telephone company thought I was planning robberies via their systems that they would probably NOT shut off my service, but only so that they could put a wiretap on my line.
Regardless, that's not the point. If I'm discussing doing copyright infringement over the internet I wouldn't expect my connection to be severed (not yet anyway). If I actually was using the phone line to transfer stolen goods, or actually data of any kind, I would expect to be disconnected.
This actually happened in the beginnings of the internet, when companies tried to send computer data between sites using the phone system. The telephone companies demanded that they get dedicated lines to do so. Though there were technological reasons for this as well as financial.
No, it's not. At all. If you want to be realistic, it's a lot more like your local utility company shutting off your gas because you were accused of stealing some propane from somebody else.
Not entirely. It's like you were stealing propane from someone else, using their lines to transport it. So really if they are liable for transportation of stolen goods, since the pipeline belongs to them. And so its easier and safer to just shut you off completely rather than get entangled in a legal battle.
Isn't transmission already an issue though? As far as I know, there's no nuclear plant or any kind of power plant near where I live (though near for me may not be the same as near for an electrical company). The power comes through massive transmission lines. So there's already an infrastructural in place.
Agreed. It doesn't cost much to set up a single solar panel, but to set up enough to put out as much power as a nuclear plant would also cost billions and millions, not to mention maintenance.
I've posted that passage from the Declaration on my Facebook page many times - including today - and I haven't been "shut down"
That's because you don't really matter to those in power. You're a single person, and its doubtful in their eyes that you'll ever do anything but post quotes from old documents. Now if you and a thousand other people took to the streets chanting that passage, then they might take a little more notice.
Haven't you ever heard of the electoral college? If anyone wanted to rig a presidential election they wouldn't even need to come near the ballots, paper or digital. They'd go straight to the people who actually elect the president.
At this point, as far as I know, Google+ doesn't even have ads. So by your logic their market share would be zero?

It takes years for a case to make its way through the courts
As parent said, that would be very expensive for an independent software developer.
Because he's not American I think....

I think parent means it's not available on any of the mobile platforms or game consoles, like pandora is.
"The moment you make something idiot proof someone will just make a better idiot"
There will always be someone hitting the wall.

One business may just make clams just to DOS a other business.
Now sounds like a fishing boat flooding a market with cheap clams...
What about if you HAVE the rights to that Copyright and the right to download it and you still get flaged?
Then you're PROBABLY downloading it directly from the content creator and not via bittorrent.

AFAIK the disaster in Japan was caused by an earthquake, not the maintenance (or lack thereof) of a nuclear reactor.
for awhile were experiencing a large amount of support because of that.
What happened to cause them to lose support?

Have it run by the government. remove shareholders, C*O bonuses, and you remove the incentive to cut corners.
By saying "the government will do it" you mean "the government will pay fully for some other company to do it." And so corners will still be cut.
Nice rebuttal.... /sarcasm
I don't think OP is right either but just calling them paranoid and a kook isn't going to dispute their point any...

Yes... yes it does...
Just let people be entitled to a free one once every 4 years
I agree. A free state-issued photo id would be nice for more that just counting votes.
Not necessarily. It depends on what kind of database access privileges he got.
Poll taxes are banned by the constitution, but requiring a birth certificate might be a good idea....

This system has some other flaws, specifically regarding vote selling,
I'd imagine that sort of thing already goes on, so having a "secret code" like this wouldn't really make it any more or less prevalent.
