I didn't even get to the bit where they believe the upper atmosphere used to be a giant hollow sphere of crystal-clear ice.
I remember hearing that in church... That was one of the things that make me start to question the blind creationist theory. While I don't find it hard to believe that a sphere of ice could form around a planet, I find it hard to believe that a sphere of ice formed around THIS planet, while still allowing sunlight through, and not melting until the flood.
Now I may be wrong here, but isn't SSL a form of encryption? And doesn't facebook default to https connections (ie, encrypted secure connections)? There are a lot of terrorists out there, clearly....
If someone shoplifts from or even just robs your store, then the government can shut down your store.
I don't think that analogy is entirely accurate. It would be something more along the lines of if someone goes into your store and starts advertising goods that they have stolen from another store, and you don't do anything about it, then the government can shut down your store.
How? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or snarky, I really want to know how you think this can be done. I have a lot of faith in our constitution, and I really believe it's a good thing, I just can't see any way to fix what our system of government has turned into (most of the solutions people propose rely on getting the majority of Americans to care, but I've never heard a good solution for making them care). So if you have a way of getting it done, I'm all ears.
Please explain how poor funding is the root cause of the poor performance of the Washington, DC school district, which has among the highest per pupil spending in the country.
No.
I've never been to Washington D.C. I can only speak from experiences I've had with schools in California, and I can tell you that here increased funding means better performance in schools.
Why don't you tell me why you think the schools in Washington DC have poor performance?
Maybe GP just got lucky. I've called AT&T customer service only twice (both for home phone). The first time I got a very cheerful helpful guy who appeared to actually be in the US. He explained everything clearly, was very efficient, and got my service set up with a minimum of hassle. The second time I called was to move service to a new address. The woman I got sounded very depressed and was slow in just about everything. She said she set up a truck roll to the new house because there was no wire from the pole to the house itself (which was a lie, the previous occupant had actually had AT&T internet). So I guess you just have to be lucky? Maybe the first person I talked to was new on the job.
Back in the 80's AT&T was the ONLY phone provider. Now that is no longer the case. People have alternatives. They can go to Comcast for internet (and a few other smaller providers, like Sonic.net, on the west coast, and Cox on the east coast). They can also go to Comcast for phone, or Verizon, or T-Mobile. So AT&T, while dangerous, is not the ultimate communications monopoly that they were back when they were broken apart.
Or we just don't care now, you are probably right about that too.
What about when the customer comes in to buy a new phone (at discount, of course, which usually requires contract renewal)? Can they raise the prices then, or is it just a rollover of the existing contract?
If it's 9-1-1 or military it isn't considered "unused". Actually (if I remember correctly) the military uses the same bands as higher level Amateur Radio operators already-it just kicks them off when it needs the space.
Does anyone else think its kinda funny for someone to "own" a spectrum? I wonder what the going price is for the range of visible colors-I could charge anyone who has eyes a licensing fee.
I understand why you'd say that. I even partially agree (we have little incentive to work because we can be taken care of). I don't think doing away with min wage is a good idea though. I'm sure the idea is that corporations will still pay top dollar for good workers, but they won't. More likely they'll collaborate to pay lower and lower wages and it will be legal because there is no minimum to what wage they can pay.
"Hardware met Software on the road to Changtse. Software said: ``You are Yin and I am Yang. If we travel together we will become famous and earn vast sums of money.''"
Both hardware and software are equally important. The problem is that (as far as I can tell anyway), hardware development has slowed in the past few years. We aren't seeing the incredible leaps of power and speed that we used to.
Ironically, all the things they needed to know about real life, they never learned.
Did they go to college? Because honestly that's where I learned most of the stuff I needed to know about real life (though of course I'm still learning-because that kind of learning never really stops, does it?)
There are a lot of problems with education (overcrowding, poor teacher quality, poor textbook quality), but they all can derive poor funding as their root cause.
the companies I interview at are very arrogant, acting more like you need them and should feel grateful they are even considering hiring you.
Well they have a point, don't they? The job market is not looking so good for workers, seeing as there is a glut of skilled labor. I agree that it's not a very nice attitude, but they don't HAVE to hire you (unless you have some very specific skill set). They can always hire someone else. You, on the other hand, probably need the job.
Doubtful. It'll be like Facebook's style changes. Everyone will complain, but will use it anyway (because all the cool people they want to hang out with use it) and eventually will stop complaining.
Yes I'm aware that Facebook is a "free" service and the xbox 720 will be something you'll have to buy, but honestly I don't think it will matter. People will buy it anyway.
"Thank you for submitting your petition. We understand your concerns about Chris Dodd 'bribing' politicians. However you can't expect them to pay for their own campaigns, can you? These are public servants, after all."
Eh, I can't do any more then that.... But I'm sure others can do better.

So are you willing to pay an admission fee to Best Buy, or should these "services" be offered for free too?
Works for Costco, doesn't it?
Then what they are really complaining about is that they are not growing as fast as they want because of online competition.
That argument seems to be working for the MPAA...

The system is broken but it CAN be fixed

Many are not aware that the Occupy movement is ongoing in many cities.
Is it really? I haven't heard about it in months, and all the camps in the cities near me have vanished. Where is it still going on?

Cmon, considering how long it takes Congress to pass NEW laws, if we had a sunset clause like this nothing would ever get done.

I've honestly never had an ISP give me the bandwidth I pay for. It's usually about half of what they "promised".
hahaha I didn't even notice that :D
Revolution, you say? Maybe tomorrow, American Idol is on tonight...
