I agree, Airsoft is quite a bit of fun. Recently there was a game in California that had over 300 attendees. Many states have growing Airsoft communities that educate players how to have a good time playing the game, without getting thrown in jail for walking around in public with what looks like at best, pistols, and worse, machine guns. Plus, these communities allow members to post local Airsoft Events, there is even a website dedicated to advertising events regardless of location.

As far as price goes, in the US, you can buy a fully-automatic, 1:1 replica (ex: AK47, M16, etc) for $250-$300, add in another $50 for a battery, and then $50 for a good pair of goggles and your major expenses are over. Ammo for Airsoft is typically $15 a bag for 3000-3700 BB's. Quite a bit cheaper than buying cases of paint, and you'll never have to pay for gas refills.
Airsoft *might* be more expensive initially, but the only ongoing expenses are ammunition, which is very cheap compared ot paintball.

Now people will wonder whether or not the latest file they downloaded off Kazaa, Morpheus, or any number of other (until the Evil Empire^H^H^H^HMPAA/RIAA releases their legal hounds on whatever is left.) P2P clients, has some hidden gizmo thats contacting the mothership at 4:50AM sending their dox to the software company..
This is very much like the nonsense Golden Hawk had with CDRWin a while back (mabe even currently.) that eluded to the fact that "bad things" might happen to your CD burner if you used a cracked copy.. It makes people wonder, and these companies rely on that wonder, Who's going to run illegal software if it's reporting in? Not as many people, thats who.

I agree tho, if the software is smart enough to know thats it's been illegally registered/authorizied/whatever, it should just uninstall itself.. Personally, I would not, and will not utilize any software that phones home.

  4. And in the ashes of SCO... on Is the SCO Lawsuit a Good Thing for Linux? · · Score: 1

The masses who do not yet consider Linux a household word, may take an interest in the uppity OS that beat "the system". And companies that continue to look for cheaper ways to do business may have another reason to look at Linux.. Someone once said any publicity is good publicity.

We should thank SCO for their suicidal tendencies. If the original plan was to cause a ruckus, and have some high dollar company buy them, that, by now, has obviously failed. I would be amazed if any company would consider purchasing SCO at this point.

  5. one app.. on Is Slackware Fading Away? · · Score: 1

I'd agree these tools are useful, but lets face it, Slackware has always been more for the "gimme a screwdriver, I wanna see whats inside this thing." kind of person. While the other distros all have their merits, I would suggest they share a common goal of easily migrating Windows users, not so the case with Slackware. How many times have you seen people join IRC and ask the most basic questions that involve building something from source, yet are quick to point out they've been using linux "for years.."?
Slackware demands more of it's userbase than the typical Windows user. For that reason, there will always be people running this distro.

The problem with articles like this, is that what the soviets objectives, and what our objectives are will be nothing alike. The soviets attempted to control the big cities and then use those cities as bases of operations for attacks into the country. The US has said time and time again, we are not interested in taking/holding ground. Apparently the media still has the same selective hearing the world has come to expect. I would think there will be noticable differences between a village an a military training camp. And that is NOT to say that is the objective of any mission the US embarks upon. Remember how the media played up the "elite republican guards" in Iraq, and how they were "battle hardened veterans of the Iran wars" and then how they lined up to kiss the boots of GI's as they rolled over them?
Don't let the media dictate what our military is capable, or not capable of.

Took them down for good reason, to sell them on eBay to pay for college? I suppose thats a good reason. But as I said, I simply contacted the manufacturer, and they happily sent me a schematic for the T-card. The FCA connectors are available from amp.com through their distributors for 3-5 bucks a shot, generic project pcb/breadboard from radio shack is a couple bucks. I've got some on order as we speak and as soon as I get the project finished I'll post a URL for anyone interested.

You'll also find that Sandin won't post specs. The reason why, is because he is selling home-built t-cards on eBay. However contacting SierraTechnologies, and buying an FCA-3000 "T-Card" from them, and asking for schematics will provide a quick solution for building the same type of conenctors several people are now selling on eBay

  9. re: DSL on On the Reliability of DSL Providers... · · Score: 1

My experience with DSL has been iffy, at best. I ordered a 768/384 ADSL package from apk.net who uses NorthPoint for a carrier, they said 6 weeks, right around that time they started getting things together, the apk rep was clueless and often wondered aloud what that meant, or what this meant. I had no confidence in her technical ability. To her defense, after being pressured several times, she got her arse in gear and got things moving. a week later an SDSL modem showed up (there goes my hopes for the 1417 router I had waiting) and my circuit was installed the next day, however it was NOT 768/384 (even though my 10,000 feet to CO is well within that speed capability.) 384/384 is what I have, and it's faster than my old ISDN, so I'm happy enough.
However Northpoint has been very forgetful with regard to the $250 rebate I am entitled to, and as of today (2 months after installation) it's going to take another 4-6 weeks.. No big deal, but not the 30 days from install they claim..
