the piss-easy support for windows was just funny. microsoft doesn't support anything unless you pay extra. online linux support (forums etc) is far better than for windows

if your claim is true (seems possible), it is because of flaws in the php apps themselves that are exploited via xss, sql injection, etc. many app developers don't follow simple rules such as sanitizing inputs and escaping outputs. this doesn't have anything to do with the OS running the server though; it just happens to be that linux is the most popular web server OS. there are probably plenty of ex-mscse's pretending to be linux experts and not having a clue how to secure a linux production web server though; who can blame them though, what with no dialog boxes or anything.

  19. lawyer's don't usually say things like "can't" and "won't" because they aren't formal. even engineers aren't likely to use them in reports. in legalese, "can't" is more open to interpretation (or misinterpretation, or simply misreading) than "can not". in engineering its all about liability and covering your ass as much as possible.

but i agree that such formality is totally inappropriate for slashdot; the summary will be misinterpreted regardless of what language its written in.

ironically i wasn't arguing for nukes. merely that if your assumption that the usa is the strongest as long as xyz isn't used against it, then there's good reason to assume that the enemy will use xyz.

simple example is the death star in star wars. seemingly unbeatable space station, except that it could be destroyed by a lone x-wing. the usa is like the death star, and the entire country could be brought to its knees by merely taking out a few key electricity transmission towers, amongst many other unguarded critical infrastructure. the entire country is dependent on electricity. yes there are backup generators, but not everywhere. you cut the power to major cities and there would be pandemonium, and industry would grind to a halt.

another example is how an F-117 knighthawk was brought down in the middle east using mobile phone technology. the yanks thought making an aircraft with virtually zero radar return would be awesome, except that the bad guys merely started looking for what wasn't there instead.

the stronger force isn't always guaranteed victory, and sun tzu is littered with that kind of philosophy
