OK, so you must like censorship, since you live in Australia and you voted in the fucks who are filtering your internet. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
LOL.. way to try for the win with a logical fallacy (as well as an assumption or two for good measure).
The correct statement of affairs is that by continually partaking in the electoral process I am taking responsibility for the state of my government. However the democratic process doesn't guarantee an outcome that is favourable to a single voter.
Please don't confuse us with our government. We're as fucking dumbstruck and horrified with this as you are. Just...wtf?
You voted them in, so the're your responsibility. Unless you want to go the tin-foil hat route and say that the US populace has no influence or control over their government - in which case I would be looking for another country of residence.
Here in the Netherlands, public transport isn't public at all. Trains, busses, subways etc. are run by private companies. Its up to them to decide what they allow on their terrain.
In TFA it states that the protagonists interviewed the head of security who assured them that their actions were both legal and allowed - although the story is just another in the line of actions that are legal and not allowed.
Obviously they were trying to provoke a response, which if someone is acting suspicious and literally trying to get negative response from security and police they will get one
The other side of the story (if you RTFA) is that the protagonists interviewed the head of security of the Metrorail system who assured them that what they wanted to do was allowed and legal. So are you suggesting that "legal" activities are now suspicious and that everyone should just do as they are told? No wonder you are AC.
The irony of this is that this occurs in a country that professes itself to be the "land of the free and the home of the brave", and its citizens seems to get a little angry when people suggest that it isn't in either case
And Cuccinelli will go .. la la la can't hear you

The VA State Attorney General still has his own investigation (which TFA mentions) which is supposed to root out Mann's monetary fraud when he was at UVa. Yet this is the same AG who claims his own anti-Healthcare lawsuit against the Federal government won't cost the state more than the $350 filing fee. Somehow I don't think that he gets the irony of this situation.
And yes I do realize that this comment is more fitting for Craigslist than/.
I can see how this works with the mechanical differences of each end of a battery, but I'm not sure how this system will age. With the current treatment of battery terminals you eventually get to the point of having to bend the tabs in order to get good battery contact. As a mechanical solution this type of failure mode will also occur with the MS solution. However before if gets to that point I can see that there is a new failure mode that can occur. With just enough bending I can see the end cap of a battery potentially shorting out the positive and negative terminals. What this short circuit does to the remaining batteries in the system will be interesting in the least.
Trivia fact - Duracell makes disposable AA batteries in the US and their plant is rated for at least (pinky to mouth) 1.8 Billion batteries per year
Good for you, you got a taxpayer funded education and (apparently) it was a good investment for us. Want a cookie with that too?
The taxpayer funded educations that turn out to be BAD investments are arguably a worse situation than what the GP said - people with only personal debt. I don't know, maybe you LIKE the idea of free government handouts with no strings attached?
Except you don't understand that there was a meritocracy based selection process which acted to dampen out the negative aspects of a free for all system.
You paid for it just like the rest of us. The only difference is that your payment came (and comes) in the form of taxes, rather than student loans (or whatever else).
Sure it was paid by taxes. But once I had that degree it was never incumbent on me to have to earn money to pay it back
Many, many people have gotten themselves trapped into paying off student loans for the rest of their lives for a degree that is inherently worthless.
On the other hand I got a 4 year electrical engineering degree from a respected university for a grand total of about US$500. Thats what you get growing up in a country where the government thinks that education was important. I have no idea what student loan is and I think made my money back about 25 years ago.
The students are taught very little theory, avoiding computer science altogether.
Yes there are many things you can do in programming without a formal education, and I'm all for rewarding people who want to make an effort. But by not studying theory they are missing out on all those giants whose shoulders they could be standing on. This will lead to wasted effort as they reinvent everything from the wheel to Unix badly.
So what is he going to do in 6 months time when this little bit of internet trivia gets lost in the next big thing (tm)?? Will he schedule surgery for his kid? Or back to the dentist? Or will he realize that this was all a flash-in-the-pan and its back to a real job to support his family? And I wonder what the IRS thinks about all of this!
Early termination fees are simply part of the way service providers effectively finance equipment purchases at above market prices and at exorbitant rates of interest, while hiding that fact from the user as much as possible.
Someone made an observation last week that I thought was especially telling (wish I could credit the source). I'm basically paraphrasing here..
I get through the 2 year contract which pays for the phone. So how come my rates don't go down in the third year if I keep the same phone?
What is porn and who gets to decide what business should relocate to the xxx domain? Whose standards apply in something that is in an international arena?
And I can't wait for Four X beerto get into the porn market with a domain of xxxx.xxx (maybe the should sell some Seven X beer?)
There was an interesting interview on NPR this week. It was pointing out that quite a few schools in the US are dropping American football for soccer sports programs (basically due to cost as to outfit a soccer team you basically just need a field and a ball compared with suits of armor) so a huge number of kids are playing it. But when it comes to watching sports they all watch American football.
It also suggested that part of the reason for not watching soccer is a distaste for a draw - there has to be a winner, someone has to win and someone has to lose no matter how well the game is played.
One of the funniest things I saw on the 'net recently was to describe that style of speaking as Shatneritis.
But what is interesting is that Adam West used the same style of speech in the Batman TV series, (and according to Burt Ward did so in order to get more camera time on himself). Perhaps West and Shatner were twins separated at birth?

The conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this one. Obviously someone/something on the asteroid didn't want to be seen

the list of which bankers, world leaders, and radio hosts are lizard people from other planets.
now you'll never know.
Let me make an educated guess - All of them?

Only the batteries are DC.
Well its been a while since I have seen any AC batteries, so I guess that's why they went with the DC ones.
Back in 1995, Kagan said (widly reported .. and first link off google Vapid hollow)
When the Senate ceases to engage nominees in meaningful discussion of legal issues, the confirmation process takes on an air of vacuity and farce.
So it should be an interesting nomination

It said "2 meters".
What is this "meter" you speak of .. I only know of the metre. Unless you were using some new fangled musical notation that I don't know of.
The ol' spinning mirror used to fake a real 3d display trick

Might Shatner Boldly Lead Canada As Governor?
The only 'short list' I could find referenced was simply which Facebook groups had the most members.
Oh come on, next you will be saying that this is not news for Nerds. At least it is a current story!
You...pitted...us...againsteachother. You...wanted...me..todoyourbidding. You...want...me...tobeyourgovernor. Well...I...WON'T...DO...IT!

How long before you see an automated system to upload and process Captcha images on google?
Follow their AG on twitter in order to stay in touch with their government, but they don't want to hear the icky stuff? Is that right?
