  1. Re:How is that a good point? on Segway Hits the Auction Block · · Score: 1

One solution to the distance problem would be to have a bank of batteries in the mail jeep. When the segway ran low, you could just swap them out.
It may even be possible to charge them from the engine powered alternator. But, all these comments could also be applied to a scooter (and for a lot less $'s)

Everyone will have to form their own opinion of the "value" here. It seems to me that the Segway offers little benefit over an electric scooter, hence the previous post. If they don't allow scooters on campus do you think they will allow one of these ????

  3. Re:segway = waste of money on Segway Hits the Auction Block · · Score: 1

While you bring up good points here, cost will be the killer on this "machine". 80 Lbs is not so bad, as long as you are not trying to go up stairs. From all I have seen, it is not that much bigger than a folded scooter. Trust will come with riding it, Hills are not a big problem (just hurts your battery life). But the cost, unless you can get this thing under a grand, most people are not going to waste their hard earned $'s on it. Not when an electric scooter is faster, longer range, just as portable, less complicated, and can be had for ~$500. IMHO, the Segway is just a toy for the rich.

Maybe not, but the music industry was still screaming (and loudly). They lobbied for taxes on the blank tape media, and I believe were successful in some states/provences.

Tape was a good choice when CD writers were just not (cheaply) available. People these days expect CD quality music so I don't think the tape idea will fly.

Now if you could capture audio from CD playback then use that as your "rip source", you may have something :-)

Everyone is looking for something different in a program. I may have to deal with a bug that most are not concerned about. If the source is available, I might be motivated to find out why, for example, three quotes in a row causes a stack overflow.

  6. Segway - Why the Hype ? on Slashback: SmoothWall, Gopher, Be · · Score: 1

With all due respect to Mr. Kamen, I'm sure Segway took a LOT of work. But can anyone explain why this device is preferred to any of the many other electric scooters available??
Cost ? At $3K each, not hardly
Speed? Many other electrics are faster
    Range? No (See "Speed")
Size? Similar to a folded scooter
Weight? Again, not enough difference to note
Ease of use ? Not for anyone that already can ride a bike
All Terrain? Maybe on this point Ginger wins, maybe.

Does this invention really deserve all they hype ?
