    So you are saying that most of the industry needs CS people? Most companies, when looking for programmers look for CS graduates, so would be easy to recycle them as geek unfriendly Managerial types. Yes they can design algorithms, however they so do I. All it takes me is to get a bunch-o-books, and learn it in a few months. yes I have not finished the Universety, which I think is geared towards research now education, they're explicit about that. Why would I want to hire a graduate that was educated in a place is not even geared towards education? CS graduates are elitists in general, however if you spend just as much effort/money doing all by yourself/auditing lectures, you'd find yourself gathering reputation no CS dude can beat. CS is a stamp for conformity and snootiness. Beat that!

    Hey, any resembelence to the Roman Empire? The Ruling system is very similar, where the majority in the top leagues must have alot of connections, power and/or money to even get to turn the country. Has anyone seen Gladiator? Favor the crowd seems awfully similar to what's going on in the elections now. Unfortunately, most people are uninformed, unintersted or just plain dumb. That applies to all but small countries like Switzerland, Finland and so forth...

    Hey, we do not have it here =) In Canada, Eh? Anyhow, The guy is total dumb rasin bag. He is being political an all, but I could've gotten very same answers from my Eliza bot. He is just providing output that does not carry any information. Like what if some FBI employees screwed up and used Carnivore to gather dirt on someone else, and place the wrong person in jail using 'modified' output of carnivore. There is no human to check with nor any other opposing information system that would allow for double checing the data.The whole thing means simply that we all should start using encrypted email and SSLed servers, with ceritificates generated by themselves and not escrowed to Thawte and other two faced demons. I wonder if they going to share the pipe with the ISP for sending off the filtered data, or have their own brought in. That would cost a mighty large dollar to Americans, while many other social problems are not solved. Here it is not better, at least we are not the only stupid ones.

    Well even if linux is GNU, hacker developed, we
    should not push untill programmers somewhat comfortable with features. Saw it enough when
    Redhat pushed 5.0 out the door because Comdex
    was coming up. Maybe, for some unknown reason, it was good decision, result was one of the worst linux distributions made. Same was with gnome.
    1.0? It was still in Alpha for gods sake, and red
    hat pushed for it. Thank god RH does not have as
    much say in kernel as it did in other things. Or any other business.

    Hey if Dell does not want to look really dumb an suck on Microsoft's ass, they should've done the following: 1. Inform microsoft of a competition give them a fullon 10 Machines 2. Inform linux community, and give them same hardware. 3. List a number of tests and each of the machines can be prepared for the following test via round robin mechanism. Do the get numbers, post them on the website. I would advise not to buy Dell hardware. The send junk mail to everyone even when you tell them not to. If you really serious about your server solutions, go with IBM. They have ultra cool webservers, that would give dell run for their money and have SCSI raid drivers ready. We got 11 of those things in in a rack. Real nice stuff. No I am not a salesmen, just a perl/linux hacker =)

    I think people make emphasis on binary packaging package management systems too much. Something that will couple tightly with "./confgure, make, make install" will do more good then all these packaging systems, in all of the packaging systems they should have such thing. I understand that it will be way harder, but if we can make an effort on making .tar.gzs not retarted RPMs DPKgs and we world would be a better place. Why? Because if maker will follow the guidelines of make tar.gzs and portable software, making binary rpms would be a breeze.

    Yes RPM is a hack with a bunch of patches... so what? If you are real serious about installing software, use tar.gz. Binary distros are more suceptible to Buffer overflow attacks. Serious Sysadmin would never install binaries from some scuzzy site. =)

    with a computer can I? New world brings new difficulties... and so you just can't emulate items out the real world in computers, such as
    knowing your customer policy... which is basically
    tracking your customer policy and @ some point doing something devious with this data...

    a local book store that gives 20% off books, so
    I just shop there. 20% off preordered books as well! Who needs online when I can get real people to help me offline! Besides if you insist, use Amazon with cookies off, and search for a particular ISBN of the book and preorder it... it will arrive at the book store in less than a week!
    I am sure that every major city has those.

    suppose now that linux is for everyone, people start to discuss marketshare? Leave it to redhat and caldera drone formations and contribute code to the linux project. Do I really give a damn if my retarted neighbour using Linux or Windows to surf AOL? Market share is irrelevant. As far as I know linux won over most if not all people with inclination into inquiry and making intelligent decisions, and for the rest of the herd, I do not care. I get angry all the time when people ask the same question twice on mailing list of local LUG without trying to access to mail list search engine or simply grepping deja.com/usenet. I do not intend to feed the feeble for the rest of their lives, as I was not! ;-)

    Would it be hurtful for advocacy to install FreeBSD or OpenBSD on participant's machines instead of linux if they choose to? I don't mean to make a riot but Linux is not the only choice out there, and Linux movement has started as one providing alternative to Win32 platform for 386+ platforms, lets not get caught in the same way Microsoft was in terms of dictating or announcing choices.

    They always say, linux beat this, linux beat that. There are other OSes out ther you know, and they often perform better that Linux in server market. FreeBSD is one ;-) I am currently running Linux, but I don't want linux to be the common denominator cuz its a research platform where new technologies are being added every day, and some of them are not proven to be advantageous. Like adding a webserver into kernelspace for gods sake!

    Well, I'd say it should be banned and then allowed to be used only in certain circuimstances.
    For example allow for people to connect to ftp only from localhost, so that they can use their favorite ftp client to logon to machine, port forward the FTP and do file transfers that way - not everyone can use scp in windows ;-)
    I've done it for one of the companies I've worked for and they still use it =)
