  1. governments is failing to catchup... on HR 46: Wiretapping, Forfeiture, Crypto Penalties · · Score: 1

make up laws that would harm technology

response to feeling inferrior and impotent in the
face of controling ever more technological society

They make up laws that may or may not help
majority of technically advanced society. They are
scared for the time fly by and all over sudden
government would be in same situation they were
    in 20s facing gangster movement.

These steps are made in effort to keep up with
technological revolution wether it works or not.
Problem is, that broken laws can be used in courts
to unfairly win or perhaps victimise otherwise
    innocent citizens.

Govenments install these broken laws at an
increasing pace making it almost impossible to be
crime free while doing anything with computers.

as a free beer to yay happening capitalists.
I think we shall discuss more of the effects of it
bringing a decent GUI to linux, more shrink wrapped interfaces, elightenment(no pun inteded).

Such software may for once derail community from
trying to play catchup to build windows like
interfaces and allow for people to refresh their
targets onto building a better interface, that
is implemented in little space rather than copy
microsoft ideologies. Look at linux in early days,
it was a project onto itself, and that way it has
won. It was going its way whatever others were saying and now it is huge. GUI builders are concentrating on wrong targets, and BeOS as a sort
of runup competition may help them make better
    guiding choices.

Manpower for opensource projects is limited.
Diffusing it onto wrong targets will inevidebly
will bring us code bloat, featurism and ultimately
will turn smart people away from the movement.
BeOS might just be the stepping brick to guide
us onto understanding that we are galloping in

Really P4 as tested by Toms hardware, says that most software has to be recompiled with new optimizations for SSE2 to take advantage, of P4 so contemplating wether 2ghz boundary is coming up is useless, wether the community and business will support it and majority will be able to take advantage of perhaps ficitious perfomance marker, is the real question.Wasn't slashdot about content and when did it start to change to be website spouting advertisements/advocacy/promotion?

websites, hopping down 10 links you should be able to find what you need, and book mark it!
In fact I propose that the generic domain names should be banned. Because internet is linking entrie world together, for greedy corporation it is a plus to have a generic site, like .com - saying we're everywhere and we 0wn y0u. Rather I propose to subdivide domains into geographical regions such as states counties, and other. If a
company has an office in county, and just mails stuff out to the rest of the world, so make it have name amazon.ta.ws.us. Such the scrapping for stupid domain names should stop. Only govermental organization get to make second level domain names, such as .mil.us .mil.ru .gov.ca Obviously that would make all worldly corporations unhappy, and generate tons of lawsuits about damages, image distortion, and other lame stuff corporations are concerning themselves with. I think it is pretty evident, they try to do such things in any contry it is possible so they still have a flow of cash once Internet is superbroadband and everyone has 256K mp3s for anything they want.

There is nothing wrong with your solution, except people. People and money to be exact. To implement IPv6 wholly, you have to turn the internet off, rewrite quite a few apps in IPv6, because they are not cross compatible and turn the switch on.
That is not acceptible. Second way to do that is
to convince enought people to run IPv6, such as core providers and major providers such as PSInet, Bell, AT&T sprint? Major institutions, corporation and fellow Unix hackers. Make transparent API interfaces for the applications so that they will use lower 4 bytes for the address space out of the 16 bytes, and the way you go. Provide network analysis utilities for major number plafroms and
there you go, but for all that you need to get attention of lazy, parsimonious, incompetent people(take Murphys law into consideration), and then you got yourself a mess of replacing billions of hardware and dozen fold of that are installation and network adjustment costs...

Now whats cheaper, to handle IP handout in a facist fasion or to rework the internet, it think the first is considerably easier... Its like converting from pulse to tone dial, since only very few companies were handling that, it was easy to control the conversion process, now you got literally millions people who are sysadmins, who have more knowlege in network engeneering than writing shell scripts or network engeneers who know nothing about routing and how ICMP works.
