    It's the noise, dummy...You cannot see the intelligence for all the noise.

    Counting the 50+ deaths in Orlando as the act of an Islamic terrorist, which is at least debatable, there have been fewer than 100 deaths in the US since 2001.

    This is not exactly the sort of threat that sane men forfeit their liberty for.

    Even smallish cities rely on a good bit of their development from this tax, which is often in excess of the normal sales tax rate.

    Like the Uber service, this is a way to circumvent legacy fees to the municipality.

    Suggesting that the children of new immigrants (many of whom speak another language) exact a toll upon overall school performance is a realistic perspective.

    Calling every observation about the sometimes negative consequences of cultural diversity racist discourages any and all conversation about the matter.

    Sweden is an interesting choice for comparison, because they are slipping in some of the ratings of late, plausibly because of the new(ish) diversity in their demographics.

    This has been an ongoing challenge for educational systems in the US, although it is one of those things which must not be named.

    While I agree that promising to abolish the NSA will garner more interest than threatening to rein in the spy agency's power,

    I find it oddly offensive that Libertarian candidate would treat the American voters with the same disdain as the two mainstream candidates.

    It should not be necessary to lie, exaggerate, or sugarcoat things to get elected. If it is, there is a failure on another level, and the candidates are merely a symptom of that failure.

  6. Full disclosure: I'm an unrepentant American. It's not easy being a world power. Ask Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Japan, and Portugal et al why it didn't work out for them.

    Of course American jails are horrible. They're full of Americans.

    There's a school of thought that making prisons uncomfortable is just desserts and even a deterrent for some..

    Naked pics for a personal loan is a way better deal than a car title loan.

    It's an equal time rule:

    For instance, Saturday Night Live was theoretically obligated to offer opposing candidates a platform since the Donald hosted a show.

    Paid advertisements are another matter, not governed by the original rule.

    Snowden was correct to expose the NSA. However, he was wrong to believe that his actions could have possibly shamed the US government and it citizens into holding it accountable.

    I don't know. I mean, could more be done? Certainly. But here's the former, sitting, US Attorney General... Top lawyer in the all the land, mitigating my circumstances a bit. That is a nice gesture.

    If I was Snowden, I'd be jumping around the living room, fist-pumping, clearly pleased with this outcome.

    You mean the US CAN vote for someone else than Trump or Hillary? So the people ARE to blame if one of the former becomes president and does something stupid?

    Blaming is the illusive game the citizens who have a voting voice are allowed to play.

    Every eight years or so, the country's continued downward spiral is blamed on the Party holding executive power, and there's a movement to vote for change.

    The modern difference seems to be that the candidates bear little resemblance to competent, intelligent leaders.

    Alright...for this to pass Congressional muster, you'd have to be more than persuasive; you'd have to be convincing in your apparent push to continue the status quo, or your reform legislation stands no chance of getting out of committee.

    Yes, if Duke met the prerequisite requirements for funding, he would get it: that's your representative republic.

    Your democracy can be (sort of) all inclusive and flawed or, if you prefer, muddled with nonelected candidate selectors.

    The simplest way to reform the American political process would be to fund campaigns with tax money.

    It would, at least, afford large donors the opportunity to bribe their politicians the old fashioned way.

    These companies are acutely aware of the cost of labor at all times, just like they are with the cost of food... if they can cut costs, they will, it means more profit for the folks on top.

    You're absolutely correct, and if only one company cut thousands of human positions to improve the bottom line, the economy could probably withstand it.

    Ironically, the replacement of the workforce's lowest wage earners with robotic devices will negatively impact places like McDonald's first.

    The robot workers are not fast food consumers. Though the initial ($35,000) cost will go to a developer/manufacturer, any savings associated with a diminished human workforce will not necessarily be reabsorbed by the industry.
