BuzzFeed Ends $1.3M Advertising Deal With RNC Over Donald Trump (cnn.com)
An anonymous reader writes: In response to Donald Trump's rhetoric, the "social news and entertainment company" BuzzFeed has decided to terminate an advertising deal with the Republican National Committee. The deal was for $1.3 million, a source close to BuzzFeed told POLITICO. The source said the reason was because of the website's employees. "[BuzzFeed could not countenance] having employees make ads, or working at the company and having our site promoting things, that limit our freedom and make it harder for them to live their lives," they said. The source said in response to whether or not BuzzFeed would rule out any Trump advertising: "In general, we have taken the position that we won't take ads for his presidential campaign." In a CNN article, RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer says, "Space was reserved on many platforms, but we never intended to use BuzzFeed." He added, "It is ironic that they have not ruled out taking money from a candidate currently under investigation by the FBI." The agreement between the RNC and BuzzFeed called for the GOP to "spend a significant amount on political advertisements slated to run during the fall election cycle," BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti wrote in an internal memo.
I'll say here what I said elsewhere: I'm sure Donald Trump is all torn up about losing access to advertising to all those people who don't vote anyway.
You are in a maze of twisty little relative jumps, all alike.
No matter how you feel about Donald Trump, BuzzFeed is pure unadulterated garbage.
Who would've guessed? Tbh I think buzzfeed and trump have a lot in common: both full of hot air..
feeds a lot of buzzes
I guess BuzzFeed needs a safe space. Too much triggering going on. The micro-aggressions were just too much.
We love Trump even more for it.
Instead of taking the $1.3million they've just given Trump some great free advertising here.
It's also interesting how the left are consistently against free speech, both as defined in the constitution and as a general principle. They only believe you should be permitted to say things that agree with their ideology, and will try to silence any descenting voices by using terms such as racist, xenophobic, bigoted and elitist.
They left have become extremely fascist over the last few decades, yet they are unable to recognise this and continue to accuse people on the right of being fascist.
I may be completely wrong, but I thought FEC rules were If they take ads for one candidate/party they have to allow the other candidate/party to advertise as well.
....under the reign of The Donald.
Trump 2016 !!!@
RNC didn't want to advertise there anyway. They're low energy. Losers.
Hey, Windows users, there is no such thing as "forward" slash, there is only slash and backslash.
More free advertising for Trump's campaign!
currently under investigation by the FBI
What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"?
Which is more valuable? A degree from TrumpU or one from Laureate?
Pott, meet kettle
Bernie's and Hillary's!
My ad blocker won't have to block any Trump ads. They should also drop all the DNC ads, and all the other ads.

You're absolutely right. The actions of leftists have likely generated far more support for Trump than Trump's own efforts have generated.
Trump merely planted the seed that made a massive number of Americans of all backgrounds realize that the views that they hold, often views which can't be expressed out of fear of attacks and retribution from leftists, are so widely shared.
I'm not talking about the stereotypical "angry rich white male" American that leftists really like to go on and on about.
I'm talking about the immigrants who went through the very difficult legal immigration process to enter America legally, only to see leftist politicians offering amnesty and other perks to those illegal aliens who intentionally avoided the legal immigration process. These legal immigrants are absolutely disgusted by the stance of the political left. While leftists will go on about how Trump is allegedly a "racist", it turns out that his immigration policies are exactly what legal immigrants to America want!
Then there's the black community. Many within this community are disgusted by how leftists try to promote the thug culture that has caused so much pain and suffering for so many other black Americans. We see the left try to agitate the black community through various "movements", rather than trying to encourage them to focus on getting a good education and obtaining the skills necessary to better one's lot in life. There are many in the black community who see through this leftist garbage, and they want better for their fellow blacks. Yet when these blacks speak out against the leftists, those leftists (many of whom are young white males and females) label the blacks as being "racists"! Trump now gives these blacks who want to see real improvement a real chance to express their views without fearing attacks from the left.
The more we investigate who supports Trump, the more obvious it becomes that it's not just the "angry rich white male" stereotype pushed by the left. We see that Trump has widespread support across America, including massive support from what the left likes to mislabel as "minority" or "disadvantaged" groups.
The more the left agitates, the more support they generate for Trump and the millions upon millions (likely a majority) of Americans who are sick and tired of how the left behaves.
I want to see Trump's long form Birth Certificate, because it's pretty clear he's an Oompa Loompa. It seems much more likely that he was born in Loompaland, not the USA.
I'm trying to teach myself to set people on fire with my mind... Is it hot in here?
Liberal media turning away money....someone else will take it and run. Besides....You Can't Stump The Trump!!!
Here you go... Now I wonder if Hillary! will actually release the e-mails she claims are not work related - at least let someone from the FBI screen them to determine she has released everything...
Browsing at +1 - no ACs, I ignore their posts. So refreshing!

Trump University never issued degrees. It had no accreditation. It was simply a way to claim they were teaching something yet ended up being a marketing scam. Trump was directly involved in its operations.
Laureate Internationale University actually owned several accredited institutions, and Bill Clinton served as an honorary chancellor with no real operational duties.
This is Kettle, Pot, you're made of rusty iron. Copper is a superior metal. End Message.
Remember how bad McCarthism was, but McCarthy only targeted State Department employees.
McCarthy's House Un-American Activities Committee persecuted many people not employed in any capacity by the Federal government. Do the words, "Hollywood blacklist" ring a bell?
He could force any bakery to bake him a cake, right? The cognitive dissonance of the far left is amazing.
Do you have ESP?
Quick question, so we know if you're a partisan moron with a major case of dual standards: How many posts of yours (prior to this one, please) can you point to requesting an investigation of Colin Powell, and for all his emails to be handed over to the FBI? After all, he too used his own private email server for government business, including content which has since been reclassified.
None? You've not protested Powell's actions a single time, you say?
Yeah, I thought so. It's only bad if it's a lib doing it, amirite?
Senator McCarthy would've had no control over the House Un-American Activities Committee. Try again.

Also, you are right. TrumpU was never accredited so the purchaser should expect nothing. On the other hand a certain other institution was scamming South and Middle American students out of tonnes of cash for even less with higher expectations.
You're confused. Colin Powell isn't running for President and a significant part of current news. youarewrong.
"National Security is the chief cause of national insecurity." - Celine's First Law
Why do you want to vote for him?
Because he has 7 clear positions with a plan to fix each, while Hillary has 31 nebulous "issues" and a vague attitude on each.
In an attempt to learn about a non-hot-potato issue, I checked out Trump's position on tax reform.
Basically, it says any individual earning under $25,000 pays no tax, couples under $50,000 pay no tax, and it gets rid of the marriage penalty and the estate tax. It's also revenue neutral(*).
That sounds pretty good to me: this would help out a lot of poor and underprivileged, and it would eliminate the huge chunk of bureaucratic effort low earners have to do each year. The amount of revenue from a poor person is negligible, so it makes sense not to expend the effort (on both sides) trying to collect it.
I couldn't find anything in Clinton's issues specifically about tax reform (let me know if I missed it), but her "economy" issue mentions a couple of tax 'gimmes such as this one:
Hillary will cut taxes for hard-working families to increase their take-home pay as they face rising costs from child care, health care, and sending their kids to college. She is calling for extending a tax cut of up to $2,500 per student to help deal with college costs as part of her New College Compact, and for cutting taxes for businesses that share profits with their employees.
Her position is nebulous ("Hillary will cut taxes for hard-working families") and makes you feel like she's on your side without anything concrete. She's adding yet another rule to an overly-complicated tax code, and it only helps families with college-bound students.
All her positions are like that: feel-good appeals to emotional problems, and a vague sense that she'll do something about it.
Donald Trump has 7 positions listed, each of which are high priority problems that should be fixed such as the current backlog of Veterans benefits. Clinton has a looooong list of issues, such as campus sexual assault. I'm not entirely certain that campus sexual assault rises to the same level as tax reform or Veteran's benefits, but I'm pretty certain it should not be dealt with at the federal level. It's there for emotional impact.
Trump notes 7 problems and has a plan to fix them.
Clinton lists all the problems she can find, and asks "won't someone think of the $whatever-gets-me-the-vote"?
(*) Whether you believe that it is actually revenue neutral makes no difference. You can always *make* it revenue neutral by adjusting the numbers as needed, and the government thinks nothing of going into debt by twice its revenue anyway, so they could make up the shortfall that way.
(**) I had to correct myself from typing "Clinton has issues".
Quick question, so we know if you're a partisan moron with a major case of dual standards: How many posts of yours (prior to this one, please) can you point to requesting an investigation of Colin Powell, and for all his emails to be handed over to the FBI? Yes, sure, why not? You're right. I'll go with you on that one. It's only bad if it's a lib doing it.
Why on Earth would the GOP want to "spend a significant amount on political advertisements slated to run during the fall election cycle," with BuzzFeed? Somebody actually reads them? Or at least *I* visit them less than once a month, usually as a dup article search. I've never seen anything useful there, even as a way of wasting time.
I'd think shoveling money in a hole would give the GOP a better return. They need better PR guys if that's the best they can come up with.
Then again, I'm probably far out of it at 60 years old. I still think a fast food job is for teenager summer jobs and not an actual permanent career for decades.
And a lifestyle choice is clothes or a hairstyle, not a detachable and re-attachable penis. You want to do things with other people? Fine: I ... Don't ... Care one way or the other, but quit telling me about it. Or I'll start bothering you to sign up for a NRA membership like mine.
where any form of left wing press can exist without being crushed by the owners of the media. We have what can best be described as a center-left media on social issues, but looks at _any_ economic issue and you'll find them hard right. The only time I see anyone talking left on economics is the folks at the daily show and their various offshoots and the Simpsons/South Park. They're this countries court jesters. And just like a court jester they're allowed to make fun of the king because nobody takes them seriously or pays them any real mind.

McCarthy went after people suspected of Communism. It could have been anyone, but it was one group. Trump has insulted/threatened Hispanics, Women, Muslims, Iowans, the media, the disabled, Catholics, Seventh-day Adventists, Blacks, Asians, and POW's. That's the short list. He's actually incited physical violence, and this is all /before/ his election to the most powerful position in the world. It's apples and oranges, but if you're going to compare it to McCarthyism, the similarities are scary enough, but I personally think Trump rings the bell louder.

You mean like the freedom not to have to make cakes for people when it's against your moral beliefs to work on their behalf? Ok then.
It' nice to know Buzzed will fold when the pressure gets high, lets see what other advertising we can remove from them...

Politifact, hardly a right-wing site, claims your defense of Clinton as mostly false. But hey, Hillary! said her e-mail server was allowed and all A-OK per the State Department lawyers. Except it really wasn't at all, and she was lying through her teeth.

The following original work is provided with apologizes to Billy Joel:
He's absorbed with himself, you can see in his eyes
He can spoil his party with demagogue lies
And he won't show you tax forms you thought you would see
He calls-names like a child but he's always The Donald to me
He can tweet you in hate, he can bromance and leave you
With a waive of his miniscule hand he can peeve you
And if you throw a punch he will counter with three
Yeah he lies like a rug but he's always The Donald to me
Oh, he just cares for himself, he might win the big race
He's forever unkind
Oh, he never gives out and he never gives in
He just changes his mind
And he'll build a great wall to the south of our Eden
Then he'll send back brown parents whose children still need 'em
So he panders and brings out the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself if you voted him POTUS-to-be
Oh, he just cares for himself, we might have him as Prez
Yet to tyrants he's kind
Oh, he never gives out and he never gives in
He just changes his mind
An honorary chancellor with a 16m kickback while his wife directed 55m in funds to the CotB's ancilliary organizations.
Oh wow, numbers, big numbers!. So there's a lot of money going around, that's not evidence of a crime.
I suppose if you want me to get upset over too many rich people with too much money, I can, but I doubt you'll like that revolution.
Dude, you are not even copper clad what is that semi metalic spraypaint over pig iron?
Shiny copper, which you keep trying to disparage, while the rust in your own position keeps showing through. Oh wait, no, you're not a pot, you're a collander, aren't you? Oh, no, those are just speed holes to make the cooking go faster?
Also, you are right. TrumpU was never accredited so the purchaser should expect nothing.
Really? I think trying to sell such a product says a lot about your character. Not that it would surprise me, but you're the one who said it. Ok. Thanks for telling me what to expect out of Trump.
On the other hand a certain other institution was scamming South and Middle American students out of tonnes of cash for even less with higher expectations.
Feel free to show evidence of real involvement with any underhandedness.
I mean, I can get behind you if you want to rise against the tyranny of the for-profit education system, and its unscrupulous malfeasance and greed-driven perfidy as a whole, but I do believe you're really not interested in righting those wrongs, so you probably want to direct the accusations more judiciously.
I think you need to go a decade further back, and across an ocean to find a reasonable parallel.
Now what it's impossible to determine is how much he means what he says, but the economic conditions have similarities also.
I think we've pushed this "anyone can grow up to be president" thing too far.
Buzzfeed is a scummy leftist bottom feeding rag. Good riddance.
The DNC ran HUAC. McCarthy was in the Senate.
Once again the DNC is the party of slavery, racism, keeping blacks down, and prosecuting citizens. You are blaming the people that freed the slaves, ended Jim Crow laws, and passed the Civil Rights act giving blacks equal rights and the right to vote.
You ever wonder why things are getting so bad in the US? Because you attack those FIXING it while giving a pass to those who run the KKK.
You really do not see a prima faciae case of wildly inappropriate if not illegal activity when a sitting Scty of State funnels tens of millions of dollars to an organization run by a man who then hires her husband to do, as you piinted out, basically nothing for 1/3 of the amount? man and you guys argue that Trump supporters (trumpettes, trumpers, whatevers) have drunk the koolaid. I say both groups have.
And no, I see now that you are electroplated plastic, made in china, probably with a high lead content and possibly some substance known only in the state of california to cause cancer.
Geez, better not look into Oracle University, or you might just wet yourself if that's that bar you've set for outrage.
Only people which are extreme right wing and disinterested into fact would use that photo and "kiss" against Clinton or Byrd. I am sorry but everybody makes error while young, and since he apologized along his long carrier of 50+year , I am seeing painting him as having KKK tie as either chicaneries or plain old lies. Either way it does not paint a good picture about people which uses this against Clinton. Disclaimer : I do not like Clinton I just don't like fact distortion.

How is this any different?
I'm going to agree with you but only in the hopes we can become friends and you connect me with whoever sold you what you were smoking.
Neither party is who they were in twenty years ago. If you look at the degree of polarization, even then, there were some who could work across the aisles.
Go back as far as St Ronald and you get someone with more in common with current democrats than republicans.
Go twenty years further back and you have broadly un recognizable parties pivoting on some of their traditional issues as other of their traditional issues drove them to do so.
Go back half a century more and you've got parties no modern zealot could agree with as each held political territory that deeply appeals and deeply disgusts each of the current parties.
Just because a party once did something the better part of a century or two ago really means nothing in a world where 20-30 years can make a party unrecognizable to many of its old stalwarts.
Or, you know, whatever your talk radio of choice tells you.
Now can I get some of that weed?
But not for anyone else.
Shill vs shill! Fight!

how am I a shill? I am simply pointing out that both parties have engauged in highly questionable practices in education. One is recieving media and legal attention, the other is being ignored. I said nothing about if they should be investigated, merely that they existed.
The fact of the matter is that I believe they both deserve investigation, and that by not investigating one or the other you show your bias.
Or maybe you don't understand what a shill is...
You must be new, because I can guarantee that there were about 11 trillion negative posts about Bush from Anonymous Cowards back then.
You really do not see a prima faciae case of wildly inappropriate if not illegal activity when a sitting Scty of State funnels tens of millions of dollars to an organization run by a man who then hires her husband to do, as you piinted out, basically nothing for 1/3 of the amount?
Out of an institution with billions in revenue? Pardon me for not freaking. If the State Department got what it paid for, that's no real concern. If it did, well, you'll have to show it.
You know, like what was done with Trump University. Or the reverse of Whitewater.
man and you guys argue that Trump supporters (trumpettes, trumpers, whatevers) have drunk the koolaid.
Oh no, I don't think it's Kool-aid. I think it's snake oil. Or Elixir Sulfanimide. That he's trying to sell.
I say both groups have.
No, you don't. You've already apologized for Trump, and said nothing about say, Halliburton and Cheney. Or any others. As I said, if you want to show me some real opprobrium for the wealthy, or for-profit educational institutions, I can get behind that. If you want to show me some real ire towards the Republicans, you can do that, but no, like the other fellow said, you come across as a shill.
You do not sound like somebody who wants to investigate both at all.
Maybe you should reconsider your approach.
And no, I see now that you are electroplated plastic, made in china, probably with a high lead content and possibly some substance known only in the state of california to cause cancer.
Oh wait no, you're not a pot at all, you're an acorn shell that a little girl is using in her play kitchen, that holds a bit of pondwater that's supposed to represent a soup. But wait, you're not a little girl, you're a 6,000 year old demon who has possessed her body in order to corrupt the world!

Have you paid attention to all the Bernie, Hillary and SEIU signs at all the anti-Trump riots? SEIU (the left-wing government employees union) has actually organized people for and funded some of these would-be riots. George Soros (the old WWII era NAZI collaborator scumbag) has been funneling money into the anti-Trump protests just as he has put money into nearly every high-profile left-wing/progressive org over the past 15+ years, often via his web of "Open Society Foundations" org and subsidiaries.
There is a famous video clip of a 70+ year-old white guy in a Trump rally slugging an anti-Trump guy who broke into a meeting in a facility Trump rented and who'd been flipping-off and cursing the Trump supporters inside, and a clip of a black Trump supporter at a Trump rally who punched a white anti-Trumper who'd just shoved a small confederate flag into his face. These two incidents were played on loops on all the networks and have been used to convince people that Trump's fans are the violent ones. Nearly all the other Trump-related violence for months and across many states has been by anti-Trumpers often wearing/carrying Bernie/Hillary/SEIU commercially printed materials and organized online by left-wing websites.
This progressive president believes in a "living Constitution" and "living laws" which can be freely re-interpreted on-the-fly to mean whatever the stongman in power wants them to mean. As head of the executive branch he took an oath to faithfully uphold the laws, but on things like immigration he has flagrantly decided not to uphold those laws.
He's been swatted down UNANIMOUSLY by the Supreme Court over 20 times for violating the Constitution. He lets terrorists out of Gitmo without the legally-required advanced notices to congress. He illegally shifted mountains of money in Obamacare which the courts ruled he could not do. He famously refused to enforce laws against voter intimidation when a group of Black Panthers were at the polls in uniforms and armed with clubs. The list of his documented lawlessness (actual refusal to follow the law, not just something a commenter disagrees with on a website) is shocking and never even approached by the evil Nixon - so why would anybody expect him to do anything about a few ads on a stupid website?
Clinton is the ONLY person to be Secretary of State and operate a private e-mail server. It's a pure Clinton lie to claim otherwise - YOU HAVE NO FACTS ON YOUR SIDE
When Colin Powell was SecState, he used a government account for all official business where that could be done, he had a private e-mail account NOT ON A PRIVATE SERVER HE CONTROLLED for special cases because AT THAT TIME the State Department system was internal-only (i.e. there was no clear link between the outside world and that that system). By the time Hillary was in office, those limitations were long gone.
If you had the intellectual curiosity and/or basic honesty to READ the 80-page State Department Inspector General's report (an investigation by the Obama administration itself) you would know that it is a documented fact that Hillary's defenses on this (which you parrot well) are a mountain of lies.
She has, I note (and as previously discussed on this very website), spent millions of dollars on an army of internet trolls for this election cycle who can lie to millions of web surfers without her being personally tied to the lies...
you are in favor of the cake bakers who were happy to sell generic products to gays along with anybody else but did not want to participate in a gay wedding?
Personally, I'm for freedom of thought and freedom of conscience and freedom generally, so I favor the cake bakers not being forced to support gay marriage AND the BuzzFeed guys not doing Trump ads. Hell, I'm even for skin heads not serving blacks, and blacks not serving skin heads. There was a time when we desperately needed laws in the deep south to de-segregate bus seats and lunch counters etc due to the century+ of segregation driven by the dominant political party there, which was still dominant and still refused to drop its bad behavior even a century after hundreds of thousands had to be slaughtered in a civil war to end slavery. People in the deep south lacked the physical and economic mobility to escape bad towns and any other town in that area of the nation was just as bad. Now, there are vast numbers of black-owned businesses and in many places the black businesses outnumber white businesses. We need to gently wean ourselves from the once-needed due to unusual black/white circumstances laws and get back to the idea of freedom for everybody, including the freedom to be a jerk and the freedom to be a jerk towards a jerk.
You either believe in freedom and liberty and the right of each person to think freely or you do not. If you do not, then we are only arguing about how deep your dictatorial desires go, not whether you have them.
Have you had your head in the sand for a year? The Conservative elites of the right have been nearly apoplectic in their ranting and raving against Trump as a non-Conservative.
The man is NOT ideologically conservative. People on the right are panicked that he does not hold their line on matters of international trade, international diplomacy, national security, social/moral issues etc.
His supporters support him primarily on these issues:
Securing the border (something Republicans have TALKED about for decades but refused to do)
Making better trade deals that stop shafting American middle class workers (an idea that outrages big business "establishment" Republicans)
Not being Hillary Clinton
He's more of a populist/nationalist than a "right winger" or a "conservative"/p.
Just a PSA for all other astro-turfing SJW bitches:
We white cis hetero men have already gotten over your use of the slavery thing, the Holocaust thing, the mysoginy thing, and a lot of other things.
You've cried wolf far too many times, and we, the subjects of your... hmm... "namecalling?" "Raving idiocy?" But I digress... we are over it. Please use the little brain Nature was kind enough to give you and find some new terms to use in trying to shame us to your masters' will.
Thanks, pumpkin.
