To save you the trouble, I can tell you that I haven't gotten any mod points yet. I registered just after the update, and my Karma's positive right now.
It's no big deal for me though at the moment, I don't feel like I've been here long enough to give it a proper job yet. I do have some friends that have started getting mod points like crazy though. Seriously, I know a guy who got mod four or five days in a row. He was tired of it by the end.
On top of that, this assumes that you have someone who would regularly sit down and play this 3DS, uninterrupted, for over 4 and a half hours. FOUR AND A HALF HOURS. For an adult like most of us here, at that point you're probably shirking some responsibility, not to mention eating, etc. For a teenager, when was the last time any teen had that much uninterrupted time free of homework, school, chores, sports, clubs, and all that crazy stuff? For a child, just for starters kids are advised to have, at a maximum, no more than 2 hours of screentime a day. And really, how many attentive and effective parents would allow their kid to veg out for that long? Sure, we have the irresponsible, the lazy, etc, but that's not what this is meant for. Yes, 4.5 hours is a heck of a lot shorter than the 12+ I get from my DS Lite with the brightness turned down and the WiFi off, but I'm not going to sit there and use it in one sitting. You will have outliers and extenuating circumstances, long car rides/flights included, but if you know you're going to be in a situation like that, you can probably plan for better than one form of entertainment for that long.
Yes, Nintendo can try and engineer a fix for someone who wants to play gameboy for 6 hours straight, but should they? 4.5 is perfectly usable for normal use. Just get in the habit of plugging it in to charge when you're done playing.
I was aware of it before today, but this is the first time I've ever really seen it mentioned outside of the HD-DVD encryption, or since that time. Back then folks were doing anything to keep the basics of that key from being suppressed or deleted, so the flag ended up emerging as another end for this goal. It's quite clever, really. The fact that wikipedia is moving to delete it speaks volumes for wikipedia's current attitude towards notability and their ability to mold information as a few select editors see fit.
Societal and political will nothing, this will have EVERYTHING to do with the Big Power companies being willing to convert from what they know to something new. They have to up and drop gas, oil, and all that mess and fully 110% embrace new sources. It doesn't matter what the people or government says, if the producers themselves don't feel like changing, and instead milking a known profitable source to the last proverbial and literal drop, then we won't be going anywhere.
I think that if the US government shut down the American internet, then what happened in Egypt may be rapidly eclipsed by the way things would break down across the country. So many critical systems rely at least somewhat on the internet, I can hardly imagine the sheer outrage of the people most affected by the loss of critical systems, to say the least of the mob rage of all the people who can't surf tv tropes et all.
Look, all I want is my AR glasses to overlay the world into an MMORPG/FPS sim and I'll be good, okay? Call it a reparation for the future not providing me with my own jetpack and/or flying car yet.
All I want from Microsoft right now is Windows Phone 7 to be on Verizon, as soon as possible. While I'm at it, a free version of Visual Studios 2010 wouldn't hurt either.
Doesn't the Secret Service have a supply of flame throwers they've used in the past to clear out streets when the president is suddenly snowed in somewhere? I remember reading about that, but I don't remember which president it was for...
Oh, you're totally right. I really wasn't that upset about the whole thing in the first place. It was more of a "really? this is what we're doing?" kind of affair.
I had just expected to get ignored with that, and I thought it was close enough on topic, or I wouldn't have posted it;)
The reason for the wall-o-text was largely due to me having a cruddy time at working and needed a faceless nameless person to vent at for a while. It also let me redeem it a bit, so I felt better after posting.
Thanks for the friendly pointers, they're appreciated (: I try not to sweat the small stuff (oh no! someone misunderstood my post on the INTERNET), but everyone once in a while you just need to let it out, you know?
In review: dag yo, voicebox surgery! Isn't medical advancement mind-boggling?? I wonder what else we'll get to witness in our lifetimes?
Seriously? I got modded down for that for it being off topic? I thought that was well and good enough. Here, let me lay it out:
I heard this news this morning, and was impressed and sympathetic to this poor woman, who was unable to speak for ten years, after I had misunderstood and thought she had her larynx replaced ten years ago, but was unable to speak until just now. How awful that must have been, to have had the needed surgery and STILL be unable to speak, even more so after it was a self-inflicted injury mistakenly caused while under anesthesia!
But no, I was gladdened to see, upon reading this article that this was NOT the case, that she had not had the surgery ten years ago, but instead had it only recently, and has regained her voice in short order! She was still unable for ten years, but medical advances have given this back to her! How wonderful! This is going to mean so much for both her personally, and for the hundreds if not thousands of people worldwide who may be able to regain their ability to speak, or perhaps even speak for the first time in their lives! I can't imagine how it would be to be mute. Sure, we have sign language, and the written word, but there is something special about having a voice of your own. I value this gift, and am glad and thankful that this woman has had hers restored, and the implications of this procedure being used in the future is a wonderful thing. I feel foolish now for having performed an easily avoidable error by only skimming the news this morning and making assumptions based solely on this superficial reading. I have learned my lesson from this experience, and thus in the future will seek to remedy this mistake and prevent future misunderstandings.
He's old, Jim.

Let's see, how does it go again?
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of American, and to the... ah yes, Republic for which it stands...

Do we know his mailing address? I have some lists I want to sign him up for.

Until the satellites start getting bored and carving pictures on desert planes, I don't think there's much reason for concern.
Exactly, Obama's just trying to raise MORE spending, and dressing it up in a way that's going to make the scared masses cave in and let it happen.
How about "they're super cheap", does that work as a good enough reason?
But think of all the good things an internet with a TLD of .bacon would have to offer! How can you turn down such an obvious benefit to mankind??
Hey, I figured since I was asking for things that weren't going to happen anyway, I might as well shoot for the moon!

It's Barbara Streisand's house ;)
I think I'll just leave this here...

^Nevermind, wrong story. So much PS3 news right now, amirite?
I think I'll just leave this here, it just seems strangely appropriate:

This is why I ALWAYS do all of my drunken photo editing in .png!
There is obviously no way this could ever possibly end badly. Let's get this ball rolling!

You know, many other terms don't have hard and fast definitions. What exactly is a "point", mathematically speaking?
