Just as believers are making a decision based on a belief (there is a God), atheists are also making a decision based on a belief of their own: that there is not a God.
There's a difference between believing something and a religion.
I believe that the moon is still out there, even though I can't see it right now. And I also believe it isn't home to pixies and unicorns.
You don't have to prove something to believe in it, which is why Atheism is as much a religion as Christianity (etc); Atheists believe in the absence of god without proof, but in any argument they require proof of their opponents (Christians etc) that there is a god.
As we would for anyone foolish enough to insist that Russel's Teapot exists.
Believe what you want, but don't be surprised if someone wants to argue when you proclaim your beliefs on the internet. That happens on *any* topic.
Especially on/. anybody who professes to believe there is a God is usually modded down by those who not just disbelieve there is a God, but are adamant about it.
Any evidence for that?
The fact that the article shows belief in God in a favorable light, will also not sit well with many.
So tell us, do you suppose that belief in a god that you don't believe in would have different results?
Which means, yeah, it's a blatant example of the editors posting flame-fodder.
That has been the standard modus operandi for Slashdot ever since Cdr Taco left.
Of course, we all know the exact text of every single troll that will be posted here, so perhaps the real sport will be in seeing who's dumb enough to not roll their eyes and abstain.
Why does no one ever consider the possibility that perhaps $10 million for a lead actor is a slightly over the top wage for the challenge of 'looking pretty while pretending to be someone else in front of a video camera for a few months'?
If I were a filmmaker I'd *insist* on using unknown actors. I'd want viewers to see Indiana Jones, not Harrison Ford. (Or whatever.)
I'd like to think that Kickstarter would help solve the money problem. Technology has already helped solve the other side of the money problem: it's pretty remarkable that you can get a film made for $20k.
Technology has also solved the money problem re distribution of indie films.
I'm normally a proponent of "don't fix it if it's not not broken". The problem is that the Gnome guys "broke" Gnome, and thus they said "we can do this better".
Let us know when they get around to doing that.
Every release gets harder to customize for utility.
While we're on that inflammatory topic, how come some of the politicians who were the most adamantly against background checks for gun buyers, since it would infringe on their privacy, are now calling for profiling all the Muslim men in the country?
I know many people who fly small planes, I have flown small planes. to put it simply, the government, while helping with some things, is hurting others.
I hear things are a lot better in Somalia, where there's no government to spoil everything.
It's certainly bogus. The sequestration was created by the same people who should have passed a budget. They could have gotten the same result by just passing the budget.
Problem is, the two parties can't agree on a budget, and neither is powerful enough to push theirs past the other right now, so they used the sequestration as an attempt to blackmail each other into agreeing to stuff they didn't like.
We can call this "financial crisis theater", by analogy with "security theater".
The whole handwringing-over-the-debt thing is bogus to begin with, but that's another topic.
Does it really matter what he used to post it with? Everything's made in china nowdays, in case you haven't noticed.
Actually I bought a shirt this weekend and was astonished to see that it was made somewhere else. Could Chinese economic hegemony already be coming to an end? Is that one shirt the crack in the dam?
Nice troll, albeit lacking in originality. You should have linked the "socialist" Obama and communist China as a vast left-wing conspiracy to destabilize traditional capitalist energy investments by inventing disruptive clean energy technologies. Or maybe if they avert a climate catastrophe, they'll wreck the vulture capitalists' plans to get rich off cleaning up the mess at public expense.
Bonus points if you can work in an Elvis sighting or a reference to the Templars' origin as a Dacian sex cult, but since you're obviously an amateur that isn't necessary.
... when the mice become self-aware.
Don't worry, the self-aware machines will help keep them under control.
i, for one, welcome our new rodent overlord.
FTFY.
I didn't say lack of belief, I said making a decision based on a lack of measurable/verifiable evidence .
Everyone does that every day of their life. It's completely orthogonal to the concept of religion.
Why are religious people so adamant that non-religious people are also religious people?
Just as believers are making a decision based on a belief (there is a God), atheists are also making a decision based on a belief of their own: that there is not a God.

Does that make me religious?

An atheist dictator will kill you because they are, well, dictators who don't give a rat's behind about your life
As will some highly religious dictators.
Life is cheap, to most dictators.

This is about human psychology, not your god.
Why, it's a science story, of course.

Me! Me! Me!
See ya below...
Sounds like Beethoven telling his critics that his music wasn't written for them, but for future generations.
The difference being that Beethoven was one of the biggest creative geniuses of all time, and thus entitled to a bit of arrogance.

But that's why we're having this conversation.
"Ha, ha."
Or maybe "neener".
Or, in the unlikely event that they actually want advice: "You picked the wrong war to fight."
No one *needs* genetically-engineered crops, they simply result in a higher profit (and possibly various unknown health risks).
I'm waiting for the follow-up story that tells us who funds these scientists.
At the very least, unintended cross-fertilization should be "tough shit", so far as IP goes.

If I remember correctly, some online games use P2P to distribute updates legally (though they might not use bittorrent).
Before I moved to Steam, torrents were the *only* way I could get updates for Company of Heros.
Wait, what's his political agenda? And why would him not calling it the obvious mean a damn thing?
Because Bush Kept Us Safe^{tm},and Obama doesn't want to admit that a terist got through on his watch.
Let's make this real clear: /s
While we're on that inflammatory topic, how come some of the politicians who were the most adamantly against background checks for gun buyers, since it would infringe on their privacy, are now calling for profiling all the Muslim men in the country?
sad thing is you are moded funny

Maybe the summary is garbled, but 10% for 2 days per month = 10% for 2/30 of the time = a mere 2/3% cut-back.
Does anyone know what's *really* happening.
No, the pubs never intended to compromise or balance the budget. They just want to choke the beast no matter what the people actually want or need.
Actually, that's only what they want when the Democrats are in the White House. When it's the Republican's turn to drive, they go spend crazy.
It's a choice between tax-and-spend vs. tax-less-and-spend-more.

Report it as a copyright violation and they'll take it right down.
