Opera should just add a config option to send an MSIE User-Agent.
This is the worst they could do, a definite no-no. IE has already such a huge market share, and you want it to appear artificially bigger? Notifying a webmaster his site does not comply to standard is a much more intelligent thing to do.

Instead of reducing the engine, I think it might be better to start from scratch, and making a very quick n small browser, and THEN using enhancements to add functionality step by step for people with different requirements.

Here is a page about the Paris subway ghost stations (only eleven, much less than London).

What is the most amazing to me is that these stations seem to have escaped time: you can see ads from the 50s on the wall. When there was some works done at the Roosevelt station, they removed a part of the wall coverings, revealing the original wall, covered with ads, and a map of the subway as it was in the mid 60s.

Umm does this mean Alta Vista is going to start ignoring ROBOTS.TXT permissions?

If they did that, many webmasters would quickly block their spider, and all other search engines would give results that would be invisible to Alyavista...

Maybe they have contracts with websites to be atuhorized to reach some of the robots.txt protected pages.

Now, that would be a nasty evolution...
