Hey, Dolly Parton was in Nine to Five! She might not be an opensource hacker, but there are plenty of people in the OSS community with big jugs... too bad none of them are women! (duck)
Homer and company have already survived ONE nasty streak of overmarketing -- I'm not sure it's a good idea to try a movie. It could be the death knell of The Simpsons. If they can't do it PERFECTLY and make the movie in any way weak (e.g. The X-Files) the show could suffer irreparable damage.
You're still looking for "intelligence" and "life" as we know it. I believe that there are many states of existence, some of which we will never be able to understand. FWIW, there may be another state of existence in which Earth beings are just lumps of DNA.
There will be an Office suite for Linux that doesn?t suck. Well, it does suck, but not as much as the other ones (whether they run on Linux or not). Well, at least it will be something familiar for the PHB?s.
I still like Windows as my desktop, and Linux as my server. GNOME and KDE apps are almost nice enough, but they still aren?t as refined as Windows.
That?s the wrong book to get. If you have been following/. for the past couple of months, you should remember the review of New Riders MySQL, where many people testified to it being the better MySQL book, if you are going to buy one (plenty of documentation is available online, too).
Any article about GNOME or KDE is fun, as is any article about any one of the three P?s -- Python, Perl, and PHP are guaranteed flamefests, too. The DBMS flame war is just heating up now.
Oh, ha haha, ha hahaha... it?s a Windows joke! Ha ha ha, hahahaha, good one! Ha ha, haha ha ha, I had to laugh at that one. Ha ha, tee hee -- you know, because Windows is unstable! Ha ha, hoo... boy, that was some creative stuff!
The way some of you jokesters put it, Windows BSOD's twice a day. IME, even with Windows 98, it's more like twice a year. FUD is a two way street, buddy.

Sure, a few years ago, it was cool to have a server that could authenticate users on a network, give them a little storage space, and maybe let them have some programs to run, but COME ON PEOPLE, that was TEN YEARS AGO!
Sure, Novell is doing some cool things, but their time has past, and its only remaining users are zealots (file under: Amiga).
Besides, if IBM was looking for a low/midrange server, why wouldn't they build Linux solutions with Samba?
Why are publishers so SLOW to put out any books about it? There are ZERO books about PostgreSQL available at the Barnes and Noble website, vs. three current, in print books about MySQL!
With cable, all data must pass through the ring before reaching the first hop. The bandwidth in the ring is shared by everyone, so if 100 users are simultaneous downloading at equal speed on a 1.5Mbit link, each of them get 15Kbits of bandwidth. Cable offers raw speed during offpeak hours, but can slow down during busy times.
With DSL, you have a direct connection to the first hop, so none of the bandwidth is shared. If there are 100 users with 256k links, each of them gets 256k of bandwidth. DSL is consistent, but it does not offer maximum performance.
Many people say either cable or DSL is better, but it is not at all clear cut. A big variable is the amount of upstream bandwidth that your ISP has. The cold, hard truth is that YMMV...
The world has devolved enough -- it's time for the madness to stop.
In the eary 80's, there was much paranoia and fear of bugs/aliens/ghosts/etc., exemplified by games such as Centipede, Space Invaders, and Pac-Man. Fast forward ten years, and all of a sudden these creatures seem to be given higher regard than human beings, both socially and in the context of video games!
Face it -- FPS will go the way of shoot-em-up, and become exclusively the domain of high school CS projects, trivial amusements to play on emulators, or will be completely crushed of their original spirit in Microsoft Arcade 2015. Think about it...
On the lighter side, I have heard that Daikatana will soon be released as "dumpware" and GPL'd. RMS will adopt the code as the official GNU game. Its new name will be: YAFPS -- take a guess at what that means.
it's "lassiesz faire"... and stop using stupid hackerspeak words like "atleast" and "alittle" -- it isn't hard to hit the space bar.
You may be a shoes-on-your-feet Mr. Smarty-Pants, but the truth of the matter is you have no idea what you're talking about. I have been to Georgia several times, and from my experience, I saw that nearly everyone with an eraser in their pocket was concerned about the environment enough make sure their practices didn't harm the environment of their wild cattle and precious salad plants. To make it happen, they were willing to spend a little money for pollution cleaning/prevention technology and even switch from smoking Marlboros to Camels.
Being environmentally clean does not mean slowing down. I believe that the open source software model is living proof of that. GNU and Linux have a very minimal impact on the environment, and corporations with money can make investments to improve their records as well. It may make things a bit more expensive, but in the long run everyone benefits from the expansion of the environmental consultancy and hardware industries. There is only so much money in the world, and with more industries it is more widely distributed, which benefits everyone.

I read the comments just for the flame war, too. You see Scott? We?re not that different. I am even male and have brown hair! It just happens that I'm not a hazel eyed, four times married, 30 year old, 241 pound fatass!
