    This is why I was so disappointed when that probe went AWOL last year -- it had a proper audio microphone onboard and was set to send the ACTUAL sounds of Mars back to us. Why would anyone want to listen to radio waves rendered as sound when we could have heard the real thing? Wanna hear Mars! Wanna hear Mars!

    ...that look just the same, except they're not hidden away -- you can see them from the main road usually, and they REALLY stand out. From what I've read, the UK ones are used for tracking space junk, simple as that! OK, there are probably other uses they don't wanna tell us about, but that's the main use here. Also, we had a previously unknown nuclear command post opened up near us a couple of years ago (pretty out-of-the-way fishing village I live in; this base is about 2 or 3 miles in-land). Cool for a tour, but once you get past the cool entrance tunnel and blast doors it's much like any other building inside...

    Linux advocates, please read this over and over. If you don't agree, read it again until you do. Consider this article a cluestick. Linux will not be a widespread desktop OS until it addresses these issues.

    Small installation with the basic Internet apps and so on, and FUCK Open Source, free vs Free, etc...not interested. If I have to compile it, I ain't running it, and I'm FAR from the only one.

    I've never understood Linux users putting down Windoze for being bloatware...seems like the pot calling the kettle black.

    While I'm dissing Linux, I might as well point out that it has a LONG way to go before it's ready for the desktop...though that Eazel thing might be interesting...wake me up when it's ready.

    Blitz is intended to be ported far and wide once the "basics" are done for Windoze and some money's come in -- I think Linux will be next.

    The core has been written to be as POSIX-compliant as possible, so porting was planned from the start!

    Blitz Basic will support full 3D when the "Pro" version is released at the start of 2001, and it'll be easier to program than any other 3D language out there -- at least, any 3D language that gives good results. There's a public demo with 2D-only support at the moment. See sig.

    As Black Francis of the Pixies once said of records: "I wish that all rock 'n' roll records were sold in over-18 shops, like pornography. That'd be far better. That'd be cool."

    This makes those games seem way cooler to the kids, way more sinister than they really are. That means they'll be much more enjoyable when they get their older friends to buy them!

    And a plug: you can make violent games of your own with Blitz Basic!

    When I first saw the clips of Jurassic Park where the T-Rex stomps all over the two Jeeps, I was stunned -- I couldn't imagine that those were computer graphics! By the time the film came out, I'd seen 10,000 "making-of" programs, and that was it: I saw it at the cinema and I saw all the strings (though the T-Rex bit still stands up pretty well :)
