I'm not joking. $11.91/hr to start? I assumed they would be paid minimum wage, like mcdonalds employees. I'm surprised they get paid so much to operate a cash register. Humorous that the article suggest they should be paid even more! Their badge may say genius, but in the end they're just cashiers.

In other news, office depot is paying their cashiers below the $11.91 baseline. Let's go protest!

Microsoft was on of the first to the party. It is just that they sucked. I wish people would get a grip on this. Windows Phone 7 was not their first version of their phone OS! Microsoft was pushing Windows Mobile for many version before the rebranding and new UI! I am not even a hard core Microsoft hater. Windows 7 didn't suck, Microsoft Flight Simulator rocks, the XBox 360 is a great consol and has made them a pile of money. Windows Phone is a disaster.

Windows CE/PocketPC was pretty great to have around the turn of the century. Nobody was selling anything else close to it. Unfortunately, MS didn't do anything with it until they had already let competitors take the opportunity from them.
Still, I enjoyed having a phone that would play mp3's and videos years before it was common.

I wonder why manufacturers might not be "innovating around" windows mobile, or whatever they call it these days. Because there isn't any demand...? Because MS is 5 years too late to the party...?

Having used a windows phone at the recent TechEd, I can't see the thing being terribly successful. There are a few nice features, but the tile interface is completely frustrating to manipulate. I thought "surface" was supposed to be something other than just a windows mobile tablet, no?

I didn't actually say nice in my original post, but I think you and I have a different Idea of what being nice means. What you describe as nice, I would call being a brown noser. To me, having a suitable personality (as I originally put it) would be someone who is personable enough to communicate and bond with their team so they can work together effectively. Further they're going to have to be able to communicate effectively and cordially with both management and the customer.

You loose more because the nice guys will do anything and everything to throw away their real competition, the better developer. And usually they succeed. And usually the company goes belly up.

You misunderstand. If they are going to get the job they're going to have to be both. One or the other will not do. Go re-read my post. You may not think you posses both and that is fine, I wouldn't hire you. Considering some of the people hired recently where I work, I would have to agree with this article. Things like personality, which is necessary to some degree depending on the job, are always considered highly above the genuine ability to do a job. People want those who they like around them, more than those that do their jobs.

I don't think that's such a bad thing. If you get a prick that does his job, at best he will upset your existing talented workers and at worst might drive some of them away. I look for suitable personality, ability and desire to problem solve and be creative, and third pre existing skill-sets (among a few other things) when I interview.

Even though I wrote it, this totally puts me in the mind of the Stan character from office space:
"Look, we want you to express yourself, ok? If you think the bare minimum is enough, then ok. But some people choose to wear more [flair] and we encourage that, ok? You do want to express yourself, don't you?"
