Perhaps. But even in eastern Ukraine that poll showed only 18% wanted to join Russia. I would say it is like the Tea party in the US. A vocal group for sure but do not represent the majority in anyway.
Ukraine suffered greatly under the Soviet Union and welcomed the Nazi's as liberators since 4 million starved to death in WW II. Which is why Putin is calling them neo nazi's. The question not brought up is why? It is because of the past and as a result even if they are ethnically Slavic and an ancestor of modern Russians they do not want anything to do with them.
I do not understand why the USA is so surprised by the condemnation?
It is not like the real eastern Ukrainians actually favor Russia or Independence. All the 'pro Russian separatist' labeling is really Russian-Ukrainians being spun into to be 'Russian forces' taking over TV stations and trying to whip up the so-called 'Russian' minority. They know this and everything is fake and is doctored by the media including hte western media when they call the protesters special forces!
Unless they actually believe the crap they see on corporate sponsored TV and really think they are the good guys stopping an evil Nazi regime sponsored by Putin to bully innocent Ukrainians and EU? At least the demonstrators in Kiev who over threw the government were real American CIA agents and not Ukrainians. Idiots.
So USA is angry it is being perceived as bully as result. Well the mirror doesn't lie and USA deservers all its sanctions.
The difference is we did not send in marines dressed as Ukrainian protesters to overthrow the government in Kiev or try to carve a sovereign nation because they might vote for something we do not like.
Russia is clearly the bully here and I do not see how anyone can even look at the other side objectively.
What I listed are job requirements. Yes IOS is a job requirement specific to a platform to develop apps for said platform so I resent being called a moron and being modded down to 0 for this! Apparently arrogant moderators who feel threatened and are trying to make me look bad so they can feel better about their C++ skills.
"None of which are programming languages."
Right.
Tell yourself this and laugh at them. Meanwhile they are making more money than you with the equivalent experience than someone with C (you know a real language for smart people). Apps are needed and websites are about to hit the next generation as IE 6 legacy support is switching away to HTML 5 and mobile friendly replacements are needed. Fortune 1,000 companies are willing to pay big bucks right now for these.
Mobile app development requires all of this and these kids with 2 years experience are more in demand for C rather than you like it or not. The market does not care about Unix ideology and the best language. They care about products and things which need to be developed to earn income. http://slashdot.org/comments.p...

At least the demonstrators in Kiev who over threw the government were real Ukrainians and not American CIA agents. Idiots.

Why can't a business do what it wants on its own networks to monitor their own computers?
Do not like it? Then don't work. Plain and simple as you are paid to work and not create hostile work environments or infect their networks. They have a right to protect themselves legally and liability wise. Companies are liable for what their employees do at all times.
They create their own self signed certs to do this so no biggie.
My favorites are tests where you have shapes with many lines and must recite them quickly and accurately and rote memorization tests. If you do not pass they wont talk to you, even for a sales position.
It is not a language. I put IOS as what employers list as requirements.
Most of iOS development is just some HTML 5 with objective-C logic thrown in for integration sake. I just spoke to someone whose son is making $100,000 a year and he is a 24 year old highschool drop out. He works for Coca Cola, Home Depot, and other companies consulting and he has only 2 years exprience.
He learned HTML 5 and that is how he got in. These companies needed someone to write mobile apps and they couldn't find anyone qualified. Tablet websites, mobile apps all require iOS, Android, mobile app, objective-c, and jquery +html 5.
In the tech field your value can fluctuate widely based on demand. While C++ coders laugh and look down at HTML 5 development the mobile/web coders are the ones getting the last laugh. You can not pull in 6 figures within 3 years or get people to even talk to you at that level of experience with C++. Doesn't matter if it is harder. It matters is the market demand. There was a time when Java programmers 12 years ago were recession proof and could pull in insane amounts of money for kids with HS diplomas too. Not anymore. Yes you can still pull in cash if you have 10 years experience now but it is not like it was in the old days of new.
How do you get in without experience. I graduated in 2009 with a specialty in this area and ended up doing low end desktop support. No one wanted to talk to me unless I had the experience first and then they have to bring in H1b1 visa holders as they couldn't find qualified candidates yada yada.
A small correction, Nvidia Quadro has not "turned into the Titan". Quadro cards are largely the same hardware as the consumer cards, but with minor changes to enable certain features. The main difference is in the drivers. Consumer drivers err on the side of speed, whereas Quadro drivers will typically have lower performance in a game type situation, but be better suited for CAD / 3D work.
Not necessarily true anymore for all Quadro's. The titan is a different beast than the other high end cards that Nvidia makes. It has double precession and other on demand hardware features. It is true the drivers crippled double precession floats on it but for cheap engineering cards they are great.
But you are taking a crap-shoot with the drivers.
5 years ago ATI was the suckiest hands down! They have improved slighty and Nvidia has gone down to where they both have their good and bad versions with bugs everywhere where game designers have to put in special code like webmasters did with IE 6 just to not crash or display artifacts.
...who only knows HTML, CSS, and JavaScript will be posting in 3....2....1.....
Those are hottest paying jobs right now. HR wants people with 5 years experience developing IOS, HTML 5, CSS 3, jquery, and nosql. You can pull in six figures easily if you can do this.
For Cobol and java EE jobs? Uh no as applicants are flooded with many many decades of experience which is something HR weenies love and will devalue you as every applicant has +10 experience? Why don't you etc?
Comes to show you need to stay current in tech if you want the big bugs. Stay behind and your money and worth stay behind with it.
Speak for yourself. There are 24 year old kids making 6 figures right now! If you have a boring COBOL and java probably not as these jobs have applicants with 15 years experience.
But for HTML 5, iOS, CSS 3, jquery you can be very rich if you have 2 years experience and can be a consultant within 5.
If you still can't make then you suck and this is the wrong field for you or you need to take resume 101 writing skills.
I am sure we can have other slashdotters verify this as a reply.
ATI is catching up and are competitive. NVidia lowered the price and made their Quadro turn into the Titan serious to counter the ATi 290x.
Good for consumers. However, their drivers are shit. ATI's drivers have improved then had issues again with frame pacing and mantle on older AMD chipsets. Nvidia had some questionable hardware and now worse drivers which are unstable and Windows 8/8.1 HATE. They do not even support all of directX 11.1 which is the cause of the crashes.
Part of me feels ATI and Nvidia are doing this on purpose so they can sell the remarked gamer cards as FirePRo's and Quadro's for real professional work yada yada at an expensive price. I mean if it is so bad even for 2d Adobe apps you need a $2,000 card just so video artificats do not pop up you know you have trouble.
Or maybe I am cynical to think of a conspiracy to sell professional grade cards more with real opengl of course.
ATI blows equally. Intel is known to have a little better drivers but have software worts to encourage them to CPU bound for obvious reasons. Or was the case 6 years ago when I worked for a famous game company.
Windows 8/8.1 blows on Nvidia with the latest drivers if you do not have the latest cards. Ask any owner as the majority of the 8.1 update 1 failures were NVidia related.
My ATI 7850 also craps out requiring a re-image with any.4 drivers. 12.4 and 13.4 I avoid even though they are WHQ.
The situation with the graphics markers are like the ISPs with broadband or the major telecoms when picking a cell phone. Not a monopoloy but an oligopoly run by a few. Boy I miss PowerVR, S3, 3DFX Vodoo, and Matrox.
You can bet if they were still around competing toe to toe with Nvidia and ATI everyone would benefit regardless of which side you pick. To me I view them as picking AOL vs RealPlayer. Yuck.
For the record I was an nvidia fanboy at one time too before owning ATI cards.
I just got my haircut from a lady whose 23 year old son just got a consulting gig making 120,000 a year! He started 2 years ago making websites and turning them into smart phone applets.
No offense but I do not believe that advice as employers and HR can not find anyone with 2 - 3 years of HTML 5 and css 3 experience. Coca cola and others hired this kid and keep paying him $50/hr to code.
It is the Java jobs that require 10 years experience because the old timers all have that and can simply demand it. Web and mobile app positions do not have as much experience which means lower barriers to entry and more cash to make.
Sure you may not make $60,000 a year first starting out but many including other slashdotters reading this can attest you can make that much after a year of experience easily.
HR does not lie when they say (must be currently employed) and no gaps more than 3 months long in 5 years, and years of experience.
I have a good relationship with the HR department at my employer. They tell me if they do not see any commitments of at least a year it goes in the trash. If they see a hole more than 3 months old it goes in the trash. Other stuff, yes it is a plus, but they are sticklers with everything else.
The only way to get in is to quote the job description per verbatim sadly. They get 400 applications a week and yes they need filtering. Even then they always complain they can not find qualified candidates. If they take a risk they get yelled out for hiring idiots and having low retention rates. It is about their own asses reducing risks then giving people a chance and finding candidates.
Anyone worth their salt with 10 years experience can pull in big bucks. Maybe not in rural Alabama, but in Texas, California, North Dakota, New York, and other places that have high tech companies and can't find enough candidates.
HR only gives a shit about experience and holes and your resume. Not how much you know or can do. They are the gatekeepers who will let you beg for a job or be invisible to any manager.
One thing I observed was in the early 1990s the market was not hot. In the late 90's a cab driver could make $80,000 a year after reading learn c++ in 21 days! In the mid 2000's the market was cold and I remember seeing on Slashdot "DO NOT BE A CODER. INDIANS ARE TAKING THEM" and "ALL I got WAS 33,000 A YEAR? etc". Today it is hot again!
Get in while the market is still warm. Intern, develop some website stuff for small business and friends. Do everything you can as in 4 years we maybe in another recession again if history is any guide.
The great recession ended in 2009 and it is has been 5 years. Every 7 a new one starts, stocks crash, employers stop hiring, efficiency experts make people do more with less and lay off and the cycle repeats. Now you have your fancy piece of paper but with ne experience:-(
Now what?
Do not be that man. Ignore other advice and go work part time. Even quit school if you can pull 70k a year in 5 years. in 4 years time HR will care more about your lack of experience and holes than your piece of paper. True some will filter you out but mostly large boring companies anyway which are not fun to work for.
But people do not snort by doing this in real life. I do not think that is skuemorphism.
The emphasis is then switched to view content and all text. If you watch the Metro team working on Windows 8 it is all they talked about. So extreme that is all you get. Functionality need to work.
Some like me... gulp... like clutter if it means more shit on the screen. If we wanted less intrusion I would still use a 15 inch monitor and have everything big ugly 800 x 600 resolution text. We went 1080p so we can have more. Not less. this and even the current iteration of gmail is making me less productive and we are emulating ancient Windows 1.0 with shitty screens but with prettier text due to DPI and resolutions but nothing else.
It's called a "local email client." Get one, like Thunderbird or Outlook, and teach him how to use it. It will never change unless you change it.
Tell you one thing.
I will gladly switch to horrible Outlook (which I use just for the calendar and todo lists) if gmail goes this route. I already did with my older Hotmail account after the new anti skuemorphic minimalist design changed it online.
So what if you have pretty shadows, gradients, and gulp a leather background on your address book?
I will take that any idea over a blinding white HUGE TEXT where I see 1/2 of the content before and have the address book now hidden where I have to do a search and get a freaking closed door metro style syndrome of having the whole screen change at once to get a contact?!
Or am I misinformed here? I feel the anti skuemorphism crowd is the one propagating new UI should be all big minimal and dumbed down as these are computers and not the virtual devices they are replacing correct? But the original device was made to look that way is because it worked so why change it?
Perhaps. But even in eastern Ukraine that poll showed only 18% wanted to join Russia. I would say it is like the Tea party in the US. A vocal group for sure but do not represent the majority in anyway.

Then Russia would just be hurting itself as the satellites around the rest of world will continue to function.

Let me know when they get Catalyst to work well with Windows.
My 7850 can not run anything after 13.12 and couldn't run 13.4 either without a damn re-image.

Don't you mean "they take my Windows 2000 away with the best UI" and replace it with the Fisher Price crap aka WinXP?
See you in 10 years when you'll be praising Metro and the ribbon as best things since sliced bread.
Sadly at this rate I probably will as Word will resemble notepad today but with default autosaving and no features and all text. Shudder
But people do not snort by doing this in real life. I do not think that is skuemorphism.

You know it is pretty sad when we look at a 2005 era IE 6 optimized version of a site as a principle of good design.
What the hell happened?
Outlook.com is also BLEEDING WHITE and blue with all the features removed.
Gmail is a bad copy. Apple is even copying this crap in IOS 7
