So you hate change so much you can't be bothered to use Metro for 1/2 hour configuring it once?
How do you use your phone then? As a server I do not care about Metro as I do not see it everyday. To forgo the benefits of 2012 R2 and its data compression for an older solution because some tile is not pretty enough. I just see it as knee jerk hate and emotion.
I had understood that anyone with half a brain was on ASICs now.
Then again anyone with half a brain wouldnt be joining the pyramid scheme so late in the game.
Butterfly which makes the ASICS has been busted taking as long as 8 months for the orders.
Basically you plow down $2,000 for the units and they keep them for 7 months and mine the coins with your device. Then sell it to you when the cost of the coins go up 3000% so you lose your investment and Butterfly keeps the interest made... similiar to banks with holding cash for 48 hours etc.
But at least banks give the money back after 72 hours after they short stocks and keep the interest on your cash first. These guys are sharks.
Litecoins are cheaper and so are Dogecoins so it is not too late for these as with the value falling it is a great time to invest again before it goes back up.
It's all about what you're trying to do. Nvidia usually has an edge in the reliability/gaming sector, while AMD has an edge in the mining/hashing sector. To say that Nvidia is pure hype is, ironically, hyperbole.
This chip has more hash performance and shadders with less wattage than an ATI card.
This one might be the preferred one for miners while it is 3x slower it uses 1/5th the power of full dual 290x. Expect $600 and limited to no availability once the miners discover it:-)
It's always easy for nvidia to say their graphics cards outperform AMD cards in computation, but difficult to make it happen. Nvidia is great at selling hype, nothing more.
Thanks to the Litecoin and Bitcoin minners Nvidia are the only cards at the shelves at stores and who do not have a 150% to 200% damn markup from the MSRP price?!
If Maxwell can also mine coins do not expect any reasonably priced GPU for years to come.
The problem is Art professors who teach this crap and have never designed programs in the real world. They flunk students who include gradients, excess colors, shadows, and especially... gasp... skuemorphism?! Or basically the way you virtualized real world objects like a file cabinet icon or paper accounting book that has boxes into a spreadsheet.
So we have the kids graduating and Apple, Microsoft, and Google are hiring them. First thing they want to do is have things resemble traffic signs in all caps, no color or minimal color, and put everything in a emphasis of the message or content.
Also kids today will have a hard time with a mouse is the other argument. Since age 3 they are used to touch screens and expect computers in the real world to be like their tablets at home. 3 year olds touch magazines today and cry and get frustrating when the images do not move etc.
So if Ms needs to stay relevant it needs to act like a phone etc.
The same guy who was in charge of UX is the man who did the much beloved Ribbon in Office 2007.
The belief is a user will use rote memory from Office 2003 to instinctly click without looking there anyway to print right? Look at how well that worked in practice?
So the hot corner at the bottom left users will just click anyway as that is what they did during XP etc. I do give credit with Windows Vista and 7 I click where the start button was but I believe I saw a picture at the store.
The good news is he was demoted to the bing project for Windows 9 as he threw a fit when MS mentioned putting the start button back and said Skuemorphism is sooo bad we need no detail minimalism, minimalism, minimalism!
Art professors teach this crap today and like post impressionism it is the new thing! Many art students who get grades A+ for no borders, detail, shadows, just 4 color or black and white in all their work end up on UX teams at Google, Apple, and MS. They see gradients and shadows and go ewww it is dated I would have gotten a D- for this crap! Sigh
MS took the hook and sinker and then hired the guy who did the office orb for 2007 ribbon to head the team.
In Unix everything is a text file... supposedly and this has been fading out for the past few decades as SystemD and Xorg are not. Plan 9 was supposed to fix this but never came into light.
In windows everything is an object. WMI is strange in alot of ways but PS is powerful in others with objects. I see no other way to do this under Windows.
You setup the server ONCE. You walk away and use the MMC console at your desk to do sysadmin work afterwards.
If you can't figure out how to use Metro then I question your ability to do IT. Seriously just because it is not as good as Windows 7 doesn't mean you can't click on a tile called server manager. Good lord.
Most sysadmins who do not know basic powershell should not be in IT either. Infact with Exchange you need ps if you plan to do any upgrades from earlier versions. You need to create keys and import them and use connectors with your other exchange servers scattered around active directory.
Actually many are not sociopaths, but psychopaths meaning they would not want to do that to someone else as they would feel more remorse and somewhat empathy.
However a pure stranger with no face on an internet chatroom is an easier target. Everyone when angry or has been wronged by someone else would feel a little justice when things catch up. The same anger that builds is easy to take out elsewhere with anonymity.
Kids in inner city schools think it is funny as hell to make teachers angry and disrupt classrooms for example. WIth no role models at home, lots of anger, and no values of education it is displayed. This is why there is an education crises in this country as an example. Those with no anger in good environments would never do such things.
Boy, those guys at Microsoft sure know how to make great software. The fact is no other browser at work displays content right like IE 6. It is the best browser! Infact, the W3C is implementing things IE 6 had for years like rich text controls and displaying the box model... the RIGHT WAY!
Also I have to tell you McAffee and Norton are soo great and a real pleasure to use for the best OS in the world. Nothing makes me all in the mood when I have to see the pleasure of seeing a scan pop up during a lovely reboot but these wonderful products.
In addition, FSF are a bunch of radical socialists from the Obama administration out to destroy your freedom. Just look at GCC and how RMS's radical views on commercial software made sure these tools can never be included in another program like kdevelop or Netbeans. I actually do not write software but think I know everything and like to chat crap from other people so I can laugh at all the responses HAHAH.
This is why only BSD is the only true license etc and only vi should be used to read any licensing terms. Anyone who disagree's is an idiot, socialist, Obama voter, and needs to have lots of replies here and go waaay offtopic.
Chrome has had 3 emergency updates since version 32 came out in December due to security issues!
Stop the IE bashing as it is old. Infact, Firefox is less secure than modern IE is as it is not sanboxed or runs in lowrights mode which means it has access to the file system.
There have been thousands of exploits of all 3 browsers since their infancy.
It is nice for example is you can set your laptop up for different networks and when conditions change such as it sleeps and wakes up on a different network it can respond differently. You do not have to write a complex script for every possible combination you can think of.
Just put in the parameters and tell it what to do with events.
It can be used too after booting up for servers so if a hacking attempt is detected it can dynamically change its firewall settings as an example and send an email to you. You could try to do this with conventional scripts but it would be a lot more difficult
I am not experienced enough to qualify whether systemD is a good implementation as upstart also is event driven and somewhat sysV init compatible. But this is why Sun and Apple are phasing out init with event driven systems like this.
This might be ok for servers but lets say you have a laptop with Ubuntu. You are on a network and it goes to sleep at work. You grab it and head to the airport for a trip and the laptop wakes up elsewhere. All of your SYSV scripts to do things like pass settings to daemons relating to network and Samba get messed up.
With an event driven system you tell it to do things based on conditions or events such as your laptop going to sleep and waking up on a different network as an example. You can use SystemD to re-initialize itself not just on startup but when things happen with this new ability. A hacking attempt on a server, an unplanned reboot, or anything else
The bad about SystemD compared to upstart and Apple's or Sun's event driven systems: - no text files - binary reporting - quite complicated compared to other event driven systems like the older upstart
System admins hate systemD as it does not follow the Unix philosophy of text files and now awk, sed, grep, or perl to batch jobs:-(
Some also is resistance to change as many unix old timers hated anything new by Sun and did not want to relearn writing new scripts all over again. But, this tries to solve a problem like the laptop example but at the cost of complexity and non integration.
So if I were working full time at McDs or Starbucks I could just get home and eat healthy. Nice to know banks are more than happy to give $700,000 loans to such people as no scarcity exists
The fan on my computer keeps going up with 30% CPU usage on my hexcore system when playing youtube or running anything javascript intense on Chrome.
The other 2 browsers do not have this issue. Chrome might win on some artificial benchmarks but GPU acceleration and real usage sap too much CPU and I hate hearing my fan keep blowing when I listen to a simple song. FYI I have an ATI 7850 with about:flags set to use GPU and acceleration when available with CSS, smooth scroll, and other settings. IE and FF turn this on by default and still.
It also has security advantages, in that drivers don't run in ring zero can't access all memory. Performance is less of a problem nowadays, because we have fast chips like the Pentium III.
MacOSX and Windows Vista/7 have had this for many years now.
So basically you have a link that says we wont put the new system in yet as people hate it and it is not ready.
Now if I can understand English that means they are getting rid of it?!
Keep it yourselves. As it is not just 1 spam or 2 in each story. FUCK 50% of the dang comments are I HATE BETA. I feel like I am reading mycleanpc spam each story and I am getting annoyed and as I was modded up I feel I am not alone.
Slashdot editors and owners may not be as conservative as your tastes in GUI's but I believe they do have some intelligence as in hmm people hate it with a passion then maybe just maybe we should not put this style in?
Even I am surprised as much as I hate Windows 8 I assumed due to it being installed on every computer at least some app writers would target it.
Everyone hates Metro. Pushing it onto the desktop only made people hate it more. So the only place you might sell a Metro app is a Windows phone.
And who in their right mind wants Windows on their phone?
That post speaks volumes. Microsoft's artistic demos before any code was written showed LinkedIn, Monster.com, Youtube, and several other apps. I am just shocked how badly it ended up.
FYI I own a Nokia after having a crappy Android experience with a Samsung Galaxy 1. It slowed down to being unusable.. eg. 30 seconds before my contact list on my phone would show up to add someones number etc.
Windows Phone is much lighter and frankly gorgeous compared to Android and IOS. If MS didn't make it I bet people on slashdot would be talking about it more. It is catching in in places like Italy where 10% of smart phone users use it and it doubled in North America in the last 6 months. No crashes or hicups and MS got their act together I would say starting with Windows 7 and later (exception is the GUI stuff).
But that is not Windows 8 and I would never run it on a desktop.
I think what MS needs is to have Metro apps run like desktop ones Windows 7 style and not have a damn closing door syndrome and a consistent GUI. Have some integrated bing with instant search but not take up a whole damn screen and have the same applets run on Windows 9 desktop and phone. Also a fat.exe and.dlls that are both ARM and x86 compatible would be nice too.
To me I like many aspects of the metro apps but not the full screen gui part but I am a little used to them on the Windows Phone. Jumplists and pining them to a task bar and putting aero back with stacking multiple files that run with a program would be sweet as well as voice activation which is rumored to be part of Windows 9. I would like a task bar and start menu that also goes away or comes back if it detects a keyboard is plugged in.
If Microsoft can do these I will not resist Windows 9. However as we saw with XP many Windows 7 die hards (myself included) will not want to change until there are apps are some benefit. If Windows 9 certification meant GPS and gyroscopes for laptops and desktops I could see myself upgrading then as it would be cool to go into a hotel and get news and weather and zagot restaurant reviews on the road etc. The surface didn't even have a GPS unit?!!
Then if an update comes in the Windows Store there will be a notification and people (well many stuborn IE 8 users will just ignore) will update it. 2 Guis where one is ignored is bad and it feels like it was rushed.
I scrolled down to the bottom of the page and clicked "Slashdot Classic Problem solved. I stayed logged in and slashdot has my preference for classic memorized. Did that on my phone.
Now all is good except I get spam on every damn news story going BETA OMG EWWW and I am tired of reading about it or having 1/2 of the comments talking about it. Jeesh
Even I am surprised as much as I hate Windows 8 I assumed due to it being installed on every computer at least some app writters would target it. Most of the users just click desktop. You can tell as most Windows 8 users have not upgraded to 8.1 according to statistics which means they do not even know it has a Windows Store?!
Hell even Windows Phone has more apps and a reader I may add too.
Bush decided to reclassify fast food as manufacturers to hid the job losses last decade to China.
Since it would not surprise me if 1/3 of that is Mcdonalds alone that all fastfood joints make up most of that total.
I do not know of anything made here? All the big names in my city are all service, banking, marketing, and restaurant headquarter companies. The only thing produced a fish from the nearbye sea. It is not sustainable as it depends on other people spending. The problem is that goes out once it is spent. Producers keep making value in comparison which is why China is growing 10% annual.

Apple also is in the minimalism trend as well with the MacBook wheel. Since ipods are so popular it only makes sense that the UI is all the same etc.
The problem is Art professors who teach this crap and have never designed programs in the real world.
