If they want complete control then put the content on their own servers. Wow does not drm my system or make windows unstable. Its not drmed other than requiring an internet connection and no piracy as the wow discs wont be of much use.
Google docs are going over the net from a cloud and so are business apps like SAP and salesforce.com.
Some may object to this but to me its a reasonable thing to do and being networked has sweet benefits for the consumer too. Yes, developers do have a right to charge for their work. Would you like to work for me for free? I do not think so.
This is the only way I think both parties can be happy. There are also free games and FOSS software for entertainment to use too. If you do not like then write your own.
Because of the banks I owe student loans, credit cards, and need any job I can get... including a job that require finger prints. Infact I had to do this for my last job which I use to pay the banks my credit card debt. (I make 0 profit)
You can't fight the system and if you do then your employer will find someone else who will do it. The world owes you squat and you owe the world the right to exist. You need to work no matter what it is to make sure you are not in debt and by the balls by the banks in order to pay the bills.
Well my guess is if he is applying for a job then he needs money.
You can't fight the system when you have student loans, rent, food, and things you need to consume to survive. I used to hate the system too and being unrehirable or hirable is going to scare any HR department from ever hiring you.
We live in a conservative capitalist society for all but the super wealthy (they live under socialism) in the US.
I am sorry you hate employers doing these things but you have to "pick your battles". This is not one of them unless your parents are well off. Reading your title of the post I came to the exact opposite conclusion.
Or they will just fire you and replace you with someone who wouldn't mind doing it.
In this economy there are millions including myself who would be happy to do it. Its the free market and unfortunately thanks to free trade billions are available for dirt cheap.
The problems with superfetch is when Windows begins to swap aggresively to disk as it pretends to be running out of ram when its fine. It seems to me the same programs generally feel more responsive with Linux caching than they do with Windows Vista with super fetch. Its nice not waiting on the disk so much in which super fetch is supposed to solve.
Ubuntu is in orders of magnitudes far superior than Windows Vista running superfetch on my laptop with only 2 gigs in this area.
Firefox, netbeans, and openoffice runs under 1 gig and opens within half the time compared with running their win32 counterparts in vista which maximizes all the ram and then swaps them like crazy.
I do admit I am not a kernel hacker or anything but it seems superfetch is bad in the fact that Windows just pages everything to disk when it doesn't need too, which in return slows down superfetch as it likes to fill the ram, which than swaps it even more aggressively to disk and the cycle repeats. At least this problem seemed to be there in Vista and I hope Windows 7 is not as braindead. With machines with 4 gigs the problem is not nearly as bad but a laptop with a slow hard drive with only 2 gigs its silly.
I am shocked that Firefox and Netbeans together are less than half the ram in ubuntu. After loading once they open almost instantaneously again as Linux will store these program files in its cache.
Actually you can put a whole motherboard and power supply in pure water and it wont short. I have seen it on slashdot and the computer works. The H+ and oh- balance itself out.
The problem is the metallic elements on the motherboard begin dissolving and after a day or two it will start shorting.
If water drips it will dissolve the chemicals on a board inside a phone and wont remain pure water anymore.
I knew someone who used to work at a cell phone sales/repair shop.
LCI's were a great money maker and were used to deny warranties. This was true even for damages where a button was missing or something unrelated to water damage. They were charged full price for a new phone even after paying a monthly warranty. Customers were pissed as hell but the phone companies all do it as they have an oligopoly on the market. The boss even joked around saying we should have a spray bottle in the back so he could make even more money.
Apple is no different. More than likely they are used to scam consumers and the warranties are sold as "as long as the damage is not water related we will cover it!" and instead "wait water damage is on phone we wont cover it even if its our fault".
My wife just got ripped off buying a cell phone bundled with a package from our cable company saying it was free with a 2 year contract with their ISP. I told her it was a scam and not to do it. Well we now have 2 bills charged separately. The other $50 a month for the free cell phone was secret and really was not included with the ISP as promised ugh (just as a secret seperate). See it wont be billed with your cable or internet if you order it!
I do not understand how anyone can trust these companies. Like the banks the mega phone companies are becoming just as evil. I really do not like how business is being done in the last decade or so.
Taxing consumption would cause a depression as people would stop buying things. The super wealthy's tax breaks would just have the money sit in the bank and not have it move through the economy. You can't reinvest when your customers will be taxed. Inequality would go up through the roof as the middle class would lose jobs because the middle class would not buy to avoid paying taxes. The cycle would feed itself.
I would certainly go to Canada to buy a new car if I had to pay a 25% tax!
I am going to be accused of being a racist here but the problem is obvious. Half the state is filled with Mexicans who do not pay taxes and go to hospitals and have their kids go to our schools while the legal citizens foot the bill. Many get knocked up and go to San Diego across the border so they have an achor baby and then can legally stay in the US or just sneak through and stay at relatives.
I am not racist at all against Hispanics, but stating the facts economically. Its ruining the whole state.
I used to live in Riverside where 70% of the population is not even American anymore. My wife told me back in the 1980's it was only 30% Mexican and you could get jobs, find cheap housing, and live in a crime free area. Today you can not find any blue collar jobs. Why should a corporation hire an American when they can pay under the table and get a tax break. Employers get a head tax for each employee they hire. So if you have 10 employees who are illegal you can claim you are a sole proprietor and do not have employees and get a tax break.
Worse the state government is trying to fix this by increasing taxes which is making businesses close shop and move overseas or to other states.
They are being bled dry and many think free amnesty might be the only solution so they can pay taxes like everyone else and pay for things like hospital visits and education.
What makes me more angry is the fact that these institutions get stocks from the IPO for 1/10 what you and I pay for them. The exception was with google.
If a company starts initially at $40/share, wamu and boA get the same stick for $5/share and flip it and sell it to us for $40.
C# and Java are much more similiar to C++ syntax wise. VB is just different and yes it has some serious shortcomings. I admit I am not a professional programmer but I occasionally write scripts and code as a hobbiest. VB 6 and earlier versions lacked many features of advanced languages and many coders complain its terrible to use for +1 million lines of code. Suppose VB.net is different and has a rich.NET api.
I do think Excel, Access, and Vb are the best of the breed for general business needs. I wish Linux had something like Access and at least macs have Filemaker (lacks a vb like support). Just make sure you have 'Option Explicit' set or you will end up in the deepest bowels of hell fast.
I have not seen one and I mean one.NET program that can simply be recompiled to run on Unix. There are always problems or something dumb like winforms not being up to 1.0 equivalent due to them using COM.
Novel Zenworks is the only thing that comes close because it has 2 different software versions due to the incompabilities of Mono. The linux version sucks very bad.
The whole reason why Google Sketch does not have a Linux port is because of.NET. Its nearly impossible to port it.
At any given bookstore how many books on.NET do you see that do not show Visual Studio and instructions on how to use it? Visual Studio and.NET seem to confuse programmers as the same product.... in actuality they are..NET is part of Microsoft's Visual Studio tools of Windows only development.
Let me know when paint.net can simply be recompiled with a checkbox to GNU/mono?
Its about as portable as C++ in my opinion in that you need the right apis on multiple platforms. This is why Java was created.
They wont take off. 10 years have passed and for some odd reason consumers are ditching DRM invested files for the real thing they can resell or lend to a friend and wont need a $300 device with a crummy screen.
I like technology. I really do, but the whole ebooks thing is bad. Just use pdfs that are not drmed.
I consider myself a democrat still but supported Brown.
I supported him not because of his political beliefs but to scare everyone in Washington. Special interests should be a non partisan issue both Obama and McCain hate, but wont do anything about (or can't).
The health care debate angered me greatly and proved what was wrong. Yes people die each day without health care yet I will be damned if my tax dollars go to subsidize drug companies and grant them monopoly powers.
Go Brown and everyone on both sides better run for cover. You and I are not the only ones.
In today's modern processors you wont gain much performance in assembly. A core2duo simply reads the x86 instructions and converts them to risc and much of the optimizations happen at the compiler and during execution on the fly. You can always gain some speed but its nowhere near what it could do just a decade ago.
What also needs to be taken into account is the costs and time to rewrite years of development work from scratch. Sunken costs drive accountants crazy and threaten the job of any IT manager.
Instead of starting from scratch its better to use tens of millions of dollars of existing code.
Its nice from an engineer perspective but facebook is a corporation and money needs to come first and foremost.
Also assembler can crash a system and freeze it. The point of switching to NT or Unix was the point of stability of using c api's that are managed rather than using Windows95 which had assembly code that could freeze your computer.
On my laptop I have noticed a huge performance increase with Ubuntu compared to Vista running netbeans, open office, and Firefox. You are right its mostly disk. However disk access is the number one bottleneck on modern pcs so that is very important.
The problem is Windows loves to load a million services at once and the disk can only handle so much when it boots.

Meanwhile how much do they pay? What are the benefits? etc?
With older laptops and netbooks ram is typically between 1 - 2 gigs. Guess which OS runs better and does not swipe to the hard disk constantly?
The problems with superfetch is when Windows begins to swap aggresively to disk as it pretends to be running out of ram when its fine. It seems to me the same programs generally feel more responsive with Linux caching than they do with Windows Vista with super fetch. Linux uses caches and buffers

As the saying goes the proof is in the pudding.
It sure is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npbclAZ7kPM&feature=related"> true.
Yep. This is especially true if you buy the phone in some small repair and sales cell phone shops.
If the water damage paper is red you are SOL and will need to buy a new phone. Its standard practice in many shops and a great money maker.
Actually you can put a whole motherboard and power supply in pure water and it wont short. I have seen it on slashdot and the computer works. The H+ and oh- balance itself out.

It drives me crazy to see this.
Memory holes and latency go up with age on Windows.
Mainframes stay up for years and so does my themastat, DVR, and most electronic devices like it should.
What makes me more angry is the fact that these institutions get stocks from the IPO for 1/10 what you and I pay for them. The exception was with google.
If a company starts initially at $40/share, wamu and boA get the same stick for $5/share and flip it and sell it to us for $40.
How is that fair?
I think people like familiarity.
C# and Java are much more similiar to C++ syntax wise. VB is just different and yes it has some serious shortcomings. How many times does it need to be said?

The only good thing about google docs are superior .docx support and its ability to share documents.
Otherwise, I feel like I am using Word 2.0 on Windows 3.0 or macOS 5 back in the 1980s.
Its not practical that it does not even have a grammar check.
How much more powerful is a netbook compared to a late 1980's computer with the same feature set of Google Docs?
They wont take off. 10 years have passed and for some odd reason consumers are ditching DRM invested files for the real thing they can resell or lend to a friend and wont need a $300 device with a crummy screen.

Resin still exists?
I have not heard about it in a long time.

You do not have to worry about these silly liabilities such as patent infringement.
The only person who loses is the American worker.
Time to fire the incumbents in 2010 and 2012.
