THe FBI found no proof. Again the conservative media at Fox and Bannon who incidently works at the whiteshouse may make stuff up but no wiretap order was ever place.
Also the CIA and FBI DO have a right to investigate espionage by a foreign power like Russia. A judge ordered the wiretapping of some of his staff who worked for Putin and Putin aligned interests in Ukraine. Trump and his towers were not bugged.
If this were Hillary you all would be screaming impeachment and would be wanting to start an armed rebellion. It makes you look crazy to say otherwise
All the GOP where I live in Texas supported Trump to make God happy. Simple.
This sounds absurd to slashdotters but I AM DEAD serious. God is pro corporation because the pastor said so. Liberals are evil horrible people out to take their church and guns away to literally the majority of people where I am at in rural areas.
It was religion as why would anyone vote Republican? It is because of gay rights and abortition and teaching the book of Genesis in the classroom. That is the most important and only issues these voters care about.
Majority voted for CLinton as a reminder. The rural southern states voted for Trump because their pastor said so. Plain and simple.
If you lean libertarian, then be libertarian. Switching to Democrat is essentially the polar opposite of libertarian. It makes no sense.
Libertarians believe in liberal human rights, less wars, seperation of church and state, and less government colluding with big business. Democrats stand for these too.
Now economically one can argue they agree with Republicans. True. But look at the GOP today? They believe in big government to create monopolies, fight wars for oil companies, restrict trans/gay/womens rights, want creationism taught in the classroom and have altered books in the state of Texas already, etc. Being for limited government only applies to big companies in the GOP.
The election of Trump showed me ideology and religion matter more than facts or competency. I can't stand by supporting someone who has 7% of the vote and doesn't know where Syria is on a map when I can change an existing party instead.
Who should we support then? Obama/Hillary style progressives? They're the other half of the problem. We had 8 years of clinton 1.0, 8 years of bush 2.0, 8 years of bush 2.1 retread edition (now with more urban hip and basketball!) with obama.. This last choice was between an incompetent sellout and Clinton 2.0.
Switching from republican to democrat or vice versa is pointless..
Do you watch the news? Go to www.cnn.com now (I have not but I guess it will be a facepalm moment with Trump making a wild accusation) and tell me Trump is qualified? No really? Is he qualified?
I am really scared to think of what will happen if we have a crises? Will he cry and insult the leaders wife? I am dead serious on that one too. He is not competent to be president and the religious right and rural folks voted him in based on gut instincts and religion. Scary as hell.
I would take far right Mitt Romney. Sure I do not agree he would have my best interests at heart. But can he not cry at the media and blame others and handle an international crises? YOU bet! He is smart and competent. Bush is amazingly intelligent and cool compared to this bozo.
Look at the issues here and see who is voting for what? THe only thing I see is I love the free market and hate excess government spending but that is the last generation pre Reagan Republican Party. They are dead now as RINOs and we have ideology Gods in place and they do this so they can take money from cable companies to,make laws agaisn't us.
I think Clinton is A WORLD of a difference between her and Trump. China would be in a much better relationship with us after Trump made his mistakes and we would get a pro choice supreme court justice and no Russia affairs and weird signals we send to around the world weakening the credibility of the White House and American interests. Not a saint but shoot I would take her right now.
That is what you get for voting for these politicians. But hey enjoy those tax cuts that you probably didn't get if you are not a millionaire.
To me I can not see how any smart technical person can vote for any Republican. As it stands today the GOP votes: 1. For mega corporations and monopolies from tech companies who are anti opensource 2. Believe climate change doesn't exist and is an invention of these elite socialists 3. Support Trump and his competency as shown on any news site 4. Hate highspeed internet and do not believe in infrastructure improvements 5. Believe more H1B1 visa immigrants are needed 6. Believe the bible should be taught in biology classes (it is in Texas!!) 7. Believe science should not be funded as it is only opinion oriented and not based on facts like you get from Church or Foxnews 8. Want more mega monopolies that limit internet and support throttling 9. Support snooping by corporations 10. Believe in unlimited funding by companies to elected officials to vote against your own self interests 11. Believes in old school coal and oil and does not want alternative sources of energy
Yes this post is going to anger MANY. But it HAS to be said. I lean libertarian myself but I am registering as a democrat as I feel as I.T. and science professionals who go to this site that the Republican Party is the biggest danger we face. Even more dangerous than Microsoft was back in the day.
Anyone with an IQ over 100 who is not a millionaire and works in the I.T. field needs to stop supporting these guys.
Freshman level science course material is we can never proof a negative. Only conservative Christians pseudo science uses that premise since we can't prove for example God doesn't exist. We also can't prove there are no dinosaurs either.
Yes, but to do this, you have to actually go to court which is an insurmountable obstacle in many cases and fails to provide timely relief in others.
Yep the plaintiff will go to a judge they choose to have free trips to the carribean and golf games you know... in the name of education in East Texas.
Good luck with that. That is how patent trolls win. THey bought out a town in east Texas and only their judges they are friends with when you file a lawsuit to defend yourself.
If you buy property is yours you should be able to do whatever you want with it.
Regarding the restrictive "contract" the farmer has to sign, that should be illegal.
One possible way around might be if the farmer's wife buys tractor, then farmer's wife sells tractor to farmer. Farmer is not then bound to the contract someone else signed for property he bought from his wife on the second hand market.
I'm British and very economically left wing (no not liberal in any sense of the word) but private property belongs to you not the shitty corporation that made it. Corporations have too much power thanks to liberal economics.
No you bought a copy. You only bought the right to use the tracker. THe real tracker is one inside John Deere.:-)
THis is how Microsoft make their EULA with DOS/Windows. Basically you do not really buy Windows. You buy a right to use it and the goodness of MS to include a copy but not really the real WIndows etc.
I struggle a bit to understand why this isn't a bigger issue. I mean, I understand why employers would want to own anything employees create -- free labor, ability to quash disruptive technology, and all that -- but when so many political noises are made about innovation, and you have company policies that clearly disincentivize it on the part of individuals, I wonder why some politician hasn't attempted to differentiate themselves by even mentioning the stifling effect on innovation such policies impose.
As an engineer, I'd think that more similarly inclined people would want to have at least an opportunity to pursue non-work related projects on their own time, but I guess I'm in the minority. Actually, I suppose that pretty much addresses my own question; after all, if essentially nobody is complaining, then there's no reason to call into question exploitative, innovation-quashing practices.
Anyway, good on GitHub for doing this.
It sounds crazy and barbaric, but look at it this way? Ethics wise how would you feel if you paid someone out of your own money and also paid for his equipment and time and he used your money to compete against you?
This is not about stealing ideas. It is about someone elses equipment for your own gain. To me that is unethical. I had a job once where I was paid by the hour for tech work. I went into the MDF to apply for jobs and do some interviews when time was free. Lo and behold got scoldered by a coworker who questioned my integrity since the company was essentially paying me to screw them over. I never thought about it that way?
He was right. Nothing is wrong for self benefit but I agree with the employer on this one. If you are being paid by the hour or even salary then you have no rights for anything on the company dime. After all they paid for it so their interests come first otherwise it would not be called compensation.
Matt I respect your work on both Freebsd and Dragonfly but have you ever seen latency spikes from lots of small writes? My home PC has 2 raid 0 Samsung pros. Latency spikes go well over 1000 when running several Hyper-V or VMware workstation sessions easily. I am sure a server grade solution would be a little bit better.
From what I have read is low latencies is the key and writes. Xpoint doesn't use blocks and does have endurance issues. 550,000 iops and lower latency is no joke on a SQL database or virtualization application server where that is always the bottleneck. Yes for home it's stupid but having a less than 100 MS latency means data can now be read
Go run a server? For a corporate file shared drive using this as a tier in server 2012 R2 or later will put the frequently accessed files on this greatly improving performance over accessing the slower mechanical disks in the raid. SQL databases can use this for stored procedures and frequently accessed data too as a cache from the slower SAN and latency
Unionize they go AI. If programmers unionize it encourages more outsourcing overseas and using software to write code with less people.
You can't beat the free market. If Uber is ruined over this Lyft will start to become the more preferred brand as it will cost less. If the prices are too low then drivers will drop out and do other part time jobs then the wages will go back up again perfect equilibrium. If they are low now it is because someoe is willing to do the job for cheaper as word got out on the amount of money you could make. Tough life happens. Remember how much we used to get paid back in the 1990s? Sigh... we won't ever get paid that high again regardless of 2x the cost of living! Too many people know tech now and we just needed to readjust.
His noble peace prize was based off his 1976 dissertation on price settings and behavior. That video is for the average Joes what his work revolves on. Price is a direct indicator of supply and demand. Human behavior most certainly is related for demand
Milton Friedman published a proof on this with price settings theory. Capitalism benefits everyone. It is a 2 way street a buyer and seller.
Economies serve those who want to make money and those who want to buy products and services. Labor it is those who want to earn money and those who need a service provided.
If you do not like this then go to North Korea or Cuba and see how they live compared to your country. As the money moves through the market faster the higher the wages of those who want to work and those who sell things both benefit. Everybody is greedy man. Of course businesses want to maximize their value. Of course YOU want to maximize your value and work less. Consumers want cheaper products and more of them. The balance is achieved based on scarcity.
It's very simple - if you are asking people to work unpaid overtime - you're an asshole. If there is too much work for the current people to do in 8 hours a day - then you're obligated to your share-holders to hire more workers, NOT to overwork the current staff. Your supposed to meet demand WITHOUT being a dickwad.
Unions are one of the key ways we try to ensure a company that needs 16 hours of work done a day hires TWO people instead of just one (which actually CREATES jobs by preventing over-work of the existing staff). Frankly if your company needs to operate 24/7 and you have less than 3 people per role then you're an asshole who deserves to be out of business (in order to open up the market for a non-asshole company).
Tough. When work doubles for a 3 month period I regularly work 60 to 75 hours a week every year. That is normal and not fair to the shareholders or to the new hires to hire them train them and fire them again? I worked at an amusement park when I was younger. Guess what? Summer nights 16 hour days. I worked at Staples later. Back to school I slept at the store and worked double shifts for a month. Recent job I did the same as YOU NEVER SAY NO to a client. Management wanted to secure the deal and we already promised the client and it would be un us and be fired if I didn't make it happen.
Your name says silent coder. Are you telling me in your coding career you never had a client demand something or had a requirement change at the last minute or had the sales team promise another feature? Ever?
I am not saying all the time. I am saying it happens and part of being professional is to show loyalty and dedication to your objectives. If a company sucks people quit. But that is not always and if it is then the top talent eventually leaves.
If your job is on the line where you have to meet quotas during the busiest season and within budget and some jerk wants to unionize to cut hours and raise costs where you need to fire someone, but still need to meet quota or cost or YOU are fired next that sucks!
Many companies will promise raises and concessions JUST PLEASE do not join a union!
Uber got through because the Taxi and Limo companies got greedy and so did their employees. Unions and bribery and tax revenue created an artificial market. Now capitalism created a solution that should have been fixed.
Well let's see the look on these drivers faces in 2 years when they are fired from computers automated their job with self driving cars.
This will be a big push. Hey it is the market value of what your labor is worth whether they want more money or used to make more is irrelevent. Taxis and limo drivers tried this and left the free market to create Lyft and Uber. Robots don't complain and their cost will go down as more companies implement to replace people.
There are better ways to fix the problems with taxis than by rolling labor rights back to the 19th century and attempting to run roughshod over the laws of every major city on the planet all in the name of "disruption".
(Or you could, y'know, actually *buy* a car. But I guess that's luddite thinking nowadays.)
Yes by using automation. It couldn't come soon enough with the greedy drivers.
Prove it!
THe FBI found no proof. Again the conservative media at Fox and Bannon who incidently works at the whiteshouse may make stuff up but no wiretap order was ever place.

so socialists care about person privacy?
(not responding to republican == KKK nonsense)
Funny these so called socialists who are really democrats that are center right all voted against it. What do you say about that?

Lawyers fascinate me
This is impossible, Cloudâ services are rock-solid 100% of the time.
But but IT is a cost center. LOOK AT THE SAVINGS!
Obviously outages must not be important according to the bean counters who want the cloud to automate all of IT away
No problem here. Update was pushed a few days ago for me and it was fine.
Sound never did work and video took several tries. Now I know why
I bet the Surface has sold as many if not more Android tablets. They are quite popular outside of slashdot which seems to be in their own world.
