i will assert that suporting technology based on perception of its merit is not as productive (or efficient) as survival of the fittest. in fact i'll go as far as to say it is counterproductive, because keeping flawed technology around distracts resources from better use.
key here is who decides which technology is to stay and which is to go. and this is where the crooks of the difference between communism and capitalism lies.
and you thought is was all in the lines for toilet paper.
..since when geeks (please no offence, myself included) look to the government to legislate our way out of spam?! whats wrong with you people? shame on you, M$ is proving to be geekier than you!..
whatever you do, do not make contributions mandatory. some companies can't contribute, in the short term. this would quickly push them away opensource.
this feature serves another good purpose. if someone was to fake Notes login dialog to snatch your password, it would be nearly impossible to correctly imitate those images, beacuse the sequence they appear is generated using a crypto-strength algorythm.
Life has tendency to adjust our perception of ethics. There was time when marrying a woman with a child was a highly desirable thing ('coz that way the future owner of the woman knew she is fertile).
Nowadays, there are many instances when parents conceive a child just to give their other child bone marrow. I see nobody wining about that. Nor do I see a reason why they should.
Human cloning, like any other technology has good and bad in it. There is no good or bad technology, in fact, technology does not have consciousness (someone else said that, not me).
And one more thing, if someone wants to get in early to try this technology on themselves, for the love of God, let them. There are people out there who are desperate to try anything (i.e. they are dying, quite literally I might add). Be not fooled, however, many of them are doing as much if not more research (especially in this era of the Internet) than the doctors that are treating them. They realize risks involved and should be made part of decision process.
i'd definitely recommend to consider notes/domino. it supports pretty much all current internet protocols. R5 will run under linux by year-end and many platforms today.
it definitely scales to the number of users that you need (even on one machine if its s/390;) and includes out of the box scheduling and collaboration.
go ahead, download it from lotus (its free for 90 days) and check out for yourself, then go to http://www.notes.net/ and ask around (they have a forum) if you have questions.
now that new TLDs being introduced, why not create them in couples, like.shop vs.store,.mall vs.mart whatever, my english is rusty, and let two separate companies maintain them. there you have it: competition.
...and watch need4speed sales skyrocket!

habit?
if wikipedia is helpful, as i know it to be, let adsense raise sustained revenue for it. trust a former commie subject, capitalism is fairer.

give it time, people learn to contribute more.

relational databases are easy to query, but rather difficult to navigate, hierarchical are easy to navigate, but hard to query. take your pick..
actually even with r4 there is no need to tolerate that annoying pop-up box, simply turn off "visible" notification in user preferences..
