I don't have much to add here except ask if somebody could moderate the informative parent to this post up? It made a big difference for me and is very succinct :)

    A few things of note

I have been going through slashdot withdrawal big time baby! but look what i find on my return...

A knees up with CmdrTaco in San Jose - yippee!

I had to look at this page's source code to find out <LI> usage.

    Aren't they cute?

Adding a "I'm on vacation" button to user preferences to prevent slashdot from thinking you don't love it any more and are sick of posting would be cool.

I have moved from QA to Dev (first day y'all!) fulfilling my pathetic Irish desire of becoming a coder in Silicon Valley.

I am seeing Linus in person tommorow, dude SWEEEEET.

    Lake Tahoe rocks.

So does my girlfriend who has returned to London :( *sniff*

Whew! Got all that out of my sytem,

The thought bubbles over Mr. Ballmers heads are so transparent, "if we persuade people that we have a lot of competition at the moment then maybe we will be left alone to dominate, errm compete on our totally non-level playing field, ha ha ha ha!"

A note to Microsoft, "strong competition" is when a companies like Oracle and IBM repeatedly kicks your ass in the database market.

No, you are not paranoid, they are out to get you :)

Unfortunately, it's quite real. I'd tried to laugh it off myself while I was reading it, but I found the idea that somebody could take this so seriously to be a little too disturbing.

I agree with the sentiment of your comment whole heartedly. I would find the review amusing if it were not for previous personal experience; a Born Again Christian friend who would HUM out loud to block out scary logical rational debate, a Dad who has used Christianity and The End Times as a crutch since his loss of employment, the frankly offensive contradictory brain washed upbringing I received growing up in Catholic Ireland.

I despair for humanity. People are such hypocritical bigots. Christians who preach about love and castigate homosexuality. Societies that allow tabacco and alcohol trade and consumption yet ban the more enjoyable uses of hemp. Terrorists who cowardly use the excuse of difference of religion to kill, maim and basically satisfy their own warped animalistic tendencies. I pity these people and won't tolerate it. It is time for us all to grow up. This must start with our children. To feed them only "Mary Poppins" is to perpetuate this wrong headed puritanism. We must educate without doctrination. We must lay bare the arbitrary racial, geographical and theological boudaries that exist in the world.

Some may find that review funny, I find it worrying and depressing, another example of a human turned moron and a world gone mad.

It is my geek-brained opinion (but what do I know huh?) that the appropriate response is a humourous response.

First thing I'd do is have a Slashdot poll to find out which flame we all preffered. I'm betting on Sergio here, that flame is now my wallpaper!

Or maybe a sort of Ghandi-esque humility is called for. "I'm sorry Mindcraft, I'll never do it again! I've been such a baaaad flamer :`)"

Or how about pleading temporary insanity (I see them get away with this in the movies all the time). "Beelzebub took over my soul and forced do it, the evil Master of the Night!"

when mr/ms harmonica states 'See the ...' above i immediately was reaching for the URL, i thought everything was online now and i can't find it, doh!

does anybody (in the enterprise application integration business) want to help me design an Open Source DTD for the exchange of relational, network and recursive data structures? I want to promote interoperability in my industry. After all we are meant to be in the business of integration!
