    This is wrong. When you pay for Microsoft Office, does it gives you the right to choose what Microsoft does with it ? No.

    Therefore when you code something you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT.

    The only restrictions are :
    - if the customer gives you secret/breveted/etc solutions or ideas or private methods related to his area of business
    - or if he spends a lot of time with you and is also author of the program
    - if the customer and you signed a contract of exclusivity and closed source before starting the project

    But in any other case, you can do the following :
    - sell it to other customers
    - make it GPL
    - make it open-source
    - etc

    Of course, morally, you must simply ask him for a price corresponding to what you do. You cannot ask him to pay you royaly (high price) and make it GPL or sell it to others. But if the price is quite modest and simply pay your time, maybe you can...

    Hello !

    If RedHat "complies" with hardware, that's because they make the manufacturers pay for it,
    which is only commercial and not better than Microsoft. One of the biggest reason to use Linux, contradictory with RedHat, then.

    And the real compatibility is the *same* in all distributions, SuSE being even a lot better than Redhat. A friend of me has SuSE and I was surprised by the big list of supported TV cards.

    But if you speak about "serious" use, as you seem to say, then the most "serious", professionnal distribution is *Debian*.

    Conclusion, there is something for everyone, from begginner (Mandrake, SuSE) to professionnal use (SuSE, Debian) and experts (Debian) and this is good...

    BTW to answer prescisely to your assumption I had to try Mandrake (latest version) and it was very good. It was like SuSE was 2-3 years ago "very good but not totally mature", while SuSE is now "mature" (Everything works perfectly)

    Ok, you misunderstood me. I agree with you about today's situation. You can do an apt-get upgrade under debian and your maybe old mailserver is immediately corrected. But I am speaking about Linux/Internet in 1997, for example...

    But most importantly : I am speaking about systems that didn't get SPAM, that were just reported as being open, not as being generating and providing spam.

    Don't forget that the first victim or relaying SPAM is the open mailserver itself ;-)

    And most importantly these lists are not based on any RFC or any standard

    We too were listed on some of these lists. And this was at the beggining of what is now know "mail relaying". Before then, all mail servers were open-relays, and suddently your emails are blocked !

    Therefore I'm against these lists but I would suggest another solution :

    1. These list should inform you have been added
    2. They should leave you 10-15 days to fix the problem before blocking you
    3. They should help you. I was *very* shocked by ORBS attitude "we block you, and we don't care if you cannot correct it"

    The problem 3 is quite grave : What can you do if your mail server doesn't support anti-relay ?
    Or if you must buy another licence, or it it's opensource, but needs a new version of the OS, or things like that. OK, now all email servers support anti-relay. But this was not the case at this time.

    And FIRST OF ALL, I would really like to have a RFC on this subject : I don't accept ORBS having decided what's permitted and what's not ! Some relaying is permitted and some not.

    Example : Accept any IP address for relay except ORBS, you won't be blocked but you're an open relay ;-)

  8. Hypocritcs and Nazi ? on Net Still Not At Olympics · · Score: 1

    Hello !

    I saw a very deep and complete journalistic inquiry today on TV about Olympics.

    It seems that CIO/IOC are very near to ALL dicatorships in the World : In Africa and in Korea, but also with old est-Germany, dictator Ceaucescou (Roumania) and Samaranch president of CIO was *very* near to Franco dictator in Espagna. Ok, well, this could be one thing.

    But there is more. They only paid PR and "image correctors" when the subject was about Salt Lake city corruption, or about Kim-Yung(?) that pretends he created taekuando(?) (which is wrong in fact it was invented by another Corean, now in exil in Canada !) : His daughter got money from Salt Lake city, 'his sport' was admitted to the Olympics while a really more widespread sport (Karaté) is totally ignored.

    And even more, "Sion 2006" in Switzerland was from FAR the best candidature, but Turin was choosen : Even organisators from Turin were surprised to win for 2006 ! And then we saw that Samaranch, IOC president is a GREAT and OLD FRIEND with Fiat (the car fanufacturer) owner, who resides and come from... Turin ! What a coincidence !

    And there was also what said a very known US sportsman that was in the CIO but left it because of corruption, dictatorship and so on.

    Well, it was really interesting, but also disgusting about the CIO. And I say that even if I live in Switzerland, country of the CIO,
    80 kilometers away from the CIO siege. Really I hope it will change in the following years...

  9. WHY Linux ? on Campaign for Free Software in the Bundestag · · Score: 1, Informative

    most governement speak about costs. This is good because it will help Linux, but this shouldn't be the only point ! A lot of other big advantages come with open source / free software :

    * stability
    to avoid a crash every day

    * security :
    with closed source there is a lot of holes you'll never know of, and cannot correct

    * future compatibility :
    how to read old Word files, as it is forbidden to install an old version ?!

    * openness :
    A Word document cannot (or shouldn't be opened) under another OS + application than MSOffice

    * and of course cost :
    Linux and GNU are at the end a *lot* less expensive

    1. What they did is TOTALLY stupid : People that really want to access these sites only have to put as nameserver not their provider DNS but ANY DNS ANYWHERE ON INTERNET !

    And all comments I have read there are totally wrong (things with HTTP 1.1) you just change the DNS (resolv.conf or Panel->Network->DNS) and you're ok.

    2. It's technically VERY DANGEROUS because it
    could come to a name space fragmentation

    3. And therefore I wonder if it's legal. Internet is owned by US governement, delegated to ICANN, and creation of toplevel domaine like
    www.someaddress.new is forbidden. Chaging DNS information like this censorship is therefore maybe forbidden (we should verify) by ICANN

    4. Why is it right ? It's not the same as censorship in China. To those that disagreed :

    Germany is a democracy with laws. You are not allowed to deny holocaust in book, in magazines, in the streets and so on. Now, why would it be different on Internet ? Why is it bad for books and good for the net ? Why is it "dangerous" ?
    You must either want both to be allowed or none, but we are in Europe and I suppose we want none to be allowed.

    Even worse, do you think that killing childrens and putting photographies or MOVIES of that on the Internet is acceptable ?!?!??! Just learn that it's legal (or not prosecuted) in a lot of countries, do you still believe it shouldn't be censored ???

    Ok, feel free to comment ;-)
