People keep saying spam costs money. Show me how spam costs money to the isp if they aren't filtering it. How much money, and how much of the total cost.
I don't know about you, but any ISP I've ever had doesn't filter my mail.
You are ranting about spam being evil, but not providing numbers.
Yes, it annoys people. So what. Lots of things annoy people. Once in a while you get a piece of gristle in your KFC burger.. so what.
And recording when their organisation had contact with you is wrong?
I mean, my mother tells me when my old friend Joe is in the neighborhood.. is my family violating Joe's constitional right to privacy by sharing this information? Or even by remembering when she saw Joe?
I don't consider dissing people on slashdot a waste of time. I use the free time I would have spend bitching about spam to bitch at other people about other stuff to make myself feel better, of course.
MOST people who bitch about spam whine because they get a few emails, and get mad as hell the second they see it.. it's not even a nuisance, they just choose to get boiled up over it.
SOME poeple have real problems with spam, but it's a small minority.
Get real man. Show me how many of the spam whiners are paying per byte. Show me how the cost of their email account or internet service would be less because of spam.
See, I get about five times as much spam as real mail on most days. Do I care? No. I spend less than 30 seconds deleting spam on any given day.
So.. let's see.
By NOT spending hours bitching about spam NOT spending hours tweaking an anti-spam system and just pressing delete... I figure I save myself a good 20 hours anually, at least.
People waste more time whining about spam and fighting spam than they would fighting it with the most simple method: the delete key.
yes, I disagree with spam. I think it's rude, wrong, and a waste of time. If I had 20x the amount of spam I get, I would probably speak differently.... but as it is, I get 20 or 30 spams a day, and it's not worth the effort to complain.
We could pretend it eats up valuable resources, or we could get real, and realize that the total disk space eaten by all the spam is really very small, relatively speaking. Even if it's 4 or 5x the amount of legitimate mail, it's still nothing.
No, the lack of UML-documented free software projects is due to the lack of UML knowledge, and lack of properly documented software development in the free software community, not the lack of tools.
There are plenty of UML tools out there (not necessarily free).
Right... in other words, if it is truly normal, which is still just conjecture. I understand that well.
I guess I'm trying to point out that many people seem to think that just because something is infinite and non-repeating, that every combination therefore exists, sort of like when you were a kid and fantasized about how, if the universe was infinite, somewhere there was a planet just like this one, except the Canucks were a winning team, and Bush lost...
In retail, sale prices are designed to attract customers. Future pricing is SECRET. Yes, the store releases sale prices ahead of time, but you generally don't advertise that "in 3 weeks, such-and-such will be on sale", becuase doing so would be counterproductive. It would both tip off your competitors, as well as detract from current sales of the item.
Whether it's pricing or not means nothing. This could be any kind of publication by any entity that was not supposed to be released yet.
Businesses may dislike consumer pricing sites, for sure, but that's not what this is about.. this is about STOLEN INFORMATION NOT AVAILABLE THROUGH ANY LEGAL CHANNELS.
Hey... look. First, we obviously diverted from the original article when I made my first post, and the original poster acknowledge that he was only referring to creating in the standard, everyday meaning.
So obviously, we are talking about theoretical physics/cosmology here.
In that sense, the nomenclature that says "energy can be created and destroyed" is not accurate at all, and does not represent modern science.
Yes, there is now an algorithm for calculating the Nth digit of pi (that's just the Nth digit, not all the rest) so you can randomly verify any digit you want.
Also, this IS math.. you don't need to prove the results if you can prove the method used to calcualte them.
If 1+1 = 2, and 1+1+1 = 3, and 1+1+1+1 = 4, I don't have to calculate 1+1+1+1+1 to prove it equals 5.
mass is a result of energy density. If you wind up your watch, it gets heavier (though probably not measurably so by us humans, as the amount of energy added to the system is such a small fraction of the energy already present)
e=mc^2 is about energy and mass being the same thing. Read einstein again. Or, if you like, how much energy is stored in what we percieve as a mass.
When you calculate the total energy in the universe, for instance, you do not ignore mass. You can't.
If energy and mass can be converted, explain how thermodynamics can say that the energy in a closed system is a constant? If it's a constant, where does conversion come into play?
The c^2 is only there in case your energy & mass units are not of equal proportion.
Thermodynamics also says that the energy in any closed system is a constant.. the universe being one of those systems. If it is a constant, obviosly it cannot be created or destroyed.
This largely depends on what you view as energy.. but let me ask.. if you view mass and energy as separate things, what do you consider "energy?". Can you cite an example?
Well, technically, it doesn't. It caused one person to turn green when he gets angry. This is the result of an extremely unlikely genetic mutatiion. The radiation he was exposed to, just by chance, happened to ionize just the right dna molecules in just the right place to bring on this new behavior. The real question is what will happen if/when he has kids.... I suspect, giving that orgasm is similar to anger in males, that he probably crushes his girlfriends to death, and having an actual child would take some kind of artificial process. Then, of course, the question arises.. what happens when the newborn baby gets pissed off becuase he's hungry?
As for conversion and trasnfer.. we don't get checks from the power grid because we don't directly contribute, mostly.
There are of course the ultra cool guerilla contributors... the lucky ones living in places where the power meter will actually run backwards if more power is gneerated in the home.
More often than not, though, the guerilla power generator doesn't generate much of a surplus, but it does generate most of the power needed for a home, so the amount of grid power used is only a trickle. So effectively, these people do get a check back.
I was on my way to the Carribean from Vancouver, and had a stop in Miami. I had 2 laptops in my bag.
So.. the bag goes through the xray machine, and the lady asks me to take out my laptop and turn it on.
Interesting, I thought, she only thinks I have one.
So I pull out the old vaio and fire it up, as soon as the startup screen comes on, she says thank you. I put it back, and start walking. Somewhat nervously...as I'm convinced some guy with a gun is going to bash me in the back of the head any second for trying to sneak a second laptop in... but nope. Nobody noticed.
Of course, only a moron would think that turning it on actually PROVES anything.
I recall another US airport where I skipped the laptop check all together.. they were asking everyone to open up bags and turn on laptops and whatnot, and they just skipped me altogether.
Don't have numbers.. but one of those radium watches was relatively safe to wear. It was mostly the painters who got sick, mainly from licking the damn brushes to get a finer point. There was some concern that if you put the watch with the dial facing your body in teh same pocket every day for years, you might develop skin cancer in that spot...
Thankfully, now we have tritium watches.. much safer.
into the cost of fighting spam.

I want to see costs.

Great. now how do those numbers compare to your total cost of operation? That's the only part that is relative.
Yeah yeah, blah blah blah...
Get real man. Show me how many of the spam whiners are paying per byte. Show me how the cost of their email account or internet service would be less because of spam.
and probably Canada....
Most other countries have a little more common sense when it comes to their women getting offended becuase of a nice pair or a bad word.
Bad words and boobies are reality. If you can't accept that, check out.

Whether the final product can be interpreted or not isn't really releveant, nor is whether you need the vm code to make native calls...
It's prototyping. That means it's not the real thing.

If all you want is cross platform version control, CVS is excellent.
Clearcase is a LOT more than version control. To compare the two is stupid.
Any company that only needs simple version control who buys clearcase is making a stupid decision.
And anyone who thinks CVS does what clearcase does is equally stupid.
Let me repeate: THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT VERSION CONTROL
Okay, so I saw the title, I clicked. I read.
I still don't see any mention of how gravity is being affected by global warming.....
what's the deal?
Right... in other words, if it is truly normal, which is still just conjecture. I understand that well.

Please note, this is about providing OFFICIAL SUPPORT on remote forums... not about providing support in general.
And that makes sense.. because OFFICIAL SUPPORT should only go through OFFICIAL CHANNELS that the company is geared to deal with.
Employees are still free to offer support in forums.. just not in an official capacity.
I mean, I hear this repeated a lot. but just because something is infinite and nonrepeating does not mean that every possible combination exists.

and it's not just the numbers following 3.141592.. it's ALL the numbers, including those.
