This attack to us makes me really mad. What worries me the most is that they're likely to increase if a precedent is set. Civil disobedience is the key.
Actually it's the vision of the journalist who has been given the promise of the OpenSource movement.
The rest of the very succesful free software that actually works and was not mentioned in the original article was written BEFORE any OpenSource certification was ever invented. Linux, BSD, GNU, X, Apahche, Perl and Sendmail are not OpenSource...everyone is its own verion of free software.
OpenSource has not delivered on its promises and instead has posed itself in a vulnerable position because of all the hype it has created...
Bob has made his opinions on "open sores" (as he calls us) very clear in the past. He is just attacking Linus and the movement now. Hopefully, he'll be proven wrong in no more than a few years.
Let's remember Crusoe has only more software "in the dice" than other microprocessors, but it's still hardware. Hardware patents are an entirely different issue than software ones. Unfortunately, free HW has a long way to go =(
It was just about time... Netscape has been lagging behind IE for Windows users...
RMS has already used it...

GPL for Books?

Both the Bison manual and the make manual are released under the GPL. They both reproduce the GPL at the beginning of the document.
Actually, software legislation is modeled after printed works (that's why they're usually copyrighted and not patented =-\ )...so the GPL should apply very well to books as well. ------- Hugonz
Surely the best way to fight such things is the wa Gandhi did. If everyone of us uses "illegal" software, then there's no way for them to fight us all. Another way is boycotting DVD manufacturers.... As with Amazon, the problem lies in the people, who are both ignorant and careless about these problems, unless they go out in the main newpapers... Well, I guess we can all boycott DVD proprietary technology (not just players, remember propietary DVD decoding SW & HW already paid their fee for licensing the patent..) as well as we are boycotting Amazon. The misuse of pounds and the annoying use of lb-force vs lb-mass (with its problems with g, that led to the use of the slug) is well more dangerous than the use of Kilograms......we DO have a specific unit for force, and that's called a Newton...
The fundamental difference here is that Copyright is part of a legal status quo, wich forces people to adjust to it, and that's part of RMS' point.
No one is forced, or even pushed into, the GPL, you only use it if you believe in it. However, most of us are pushed into copyright even though we may have reservations at it.
Remeber, no one is forcing you to use the GPL or even any free software, it's up to you.
The newton was one of my Dream computers...with thatARM processor runnign at more than 100 MHz,etc... until they killed. I read that Jobs killed because he thought that Apple had to focus on the Mac revival...rather than so much development.
I wonder if they are bringing this new palm computer from scratch...or they're reviving the old Newt... It took them lots of work to produce it a couple of years ago.
Well, that's no excuse

The only problem with Emacs is in its silly assumption that the user can actually read and write. Believe me, spell as you go is certainly not one of the most contributing features of MS Word, at least for people's improvement.
We like to customize it, we like to run apps for days and weeks without them crashing on us..
Specially, since you're a programmer, we like to write efficient code, code that we know well. Tell me if you have a real understanding of the internals of the code Visual* generated.....
Still, I don't think you're ready for Linux if you only gave it 1 week...you obviously were not inteding to LEARN anything, were you?
You choose whether you want to be led by MS or make your own decisions...
This just proves that most users aren't even aware that there are applications other than outlook and office (lowercase, pease). If users had made a choice and used whatever mail client they tried, the Melissa Virus would not have spread so quickly.

You tell me how many years it has taken to MS to get anywhere near Macintosh level GUI.....

But you'll see a real BIOS screen when pressing f10 or esc, then with F10 you can go and alter the bootup device...
I thought there were very few people who didn't watch TV...but we should start an online community....anyoune has a server to host it?
freeoftv.org or something like it...I'm serious
I don't watch TV either, but I'm willig to sed TV ads because that's the only way public TV can be FREE.
:D
PS: free as in "free beer" of course
He also was sticking to the 286 when everyone else was moving to the 386..see, this guy has always tried to keep power away from us.
