What are you, and MBA or something? (this is a term of derision for me)
Why exactly is the return trip "technically infeasible"?
The hardest part about sending something heavy to another planet is getting it out of our atmosphere. Once in space, the force required to move something is drastically reduced. And you can get fuel there. By the way, (terra)geological hydrocarbon fuels aren't going to last for ever, so that cost equation doesn't stay the same over time.
Yeah right. Where'd you learn that claptrap? In Economics 101? This is the real world, buddy. Try to find a manufacturer making a profit anywhere outside of China... they only make a profit there by expoiting their workers and/or despoiling the environment.
IMHO, the really different and useful thing about Galaxies are that they are usually composed of clustered virtual machines. And OpenVMS clusters are really, really useful and seamless.
Exactly. If they had seen the writing on the wall they would have made heaps more profit from this boom, rather than letting Apple control a large amount of it. Well HA HA HA to the record companies I say. I'd much rather Apple get a cut - they'll do something much cooler with it.
What the...?
"Apple cannot make it as a hardware company"
have you ever heard of a little gadget called an iPod?
Apple has sold a fair few of those little numbers over the last couple of years.
I totally agree. CA is the WORST software company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. M$ is 10 times better in every way, and that's saying something.
VAX Assembler??? How do they get that to run on Alpha and Itanium chips then? And no, they didn't rewrite it in assembler, they ported it. Quite quickly in the case of Itanium. So it must be in a high(er)-level language.
Get a life, don't be so rude, "Bottom line is: Pull your self-important..."
The original post specifically asked people what they wanted. So what's wrong with responding with what you want and explaining why??
Unlike YogSothoth, you added nothing to the discussion. We all know what happens now, doesn't mean we should give up trying to find a better way!
Forget about Linux bias, what about UNIX bias?
Of course Alpha's official OS is OpenVMS! VMS Clustering puts all others to shame IMHO.
Has anyone else heard of Compaq's "Galaxy" technology? This must the best-kept secret around. Basically a Galaxy is a set of OS instances running on a single SMP box, with resources able to be redployed from one instance to another _on_the_fly_!.
Sysadmin: "hmm, that database server is chugging a bit, might just steal a CPU from the webserver for a bit"...*clickety-click*..."that's better."

no, CopyLeft is good. And yes, I already pay for all my music. Do you?

Oh yeah, well what about laptops then. They never contain proprietary information?
And how proprietary is your calendar anyway?
I think you need some Quality Assurance
53kbps is the maximum using analogue transmission
NSW ruin the country you mean?
looks like the right spelling to me.
The world is bigger than the USA you know.
What happens if the rules suck?
If someone hadn't broken "the usability rules" we wouldn't have any progress.
The GUI broke the rules.

So IE:Mac needs another nail?
There's plenty enough nails in that coffin already, surely.

Well it couldn't possibly be any _worse_ than it is in .au!!!
Crown is quite nice IMHO, especially with a wicked curry.
